STORES PLATOON
15 FIELD WORKSHOP
HIS months stars are our athletes Staff Sergeant Roger Black-
•ood, Lance Corporal Mac McCarter and Private Jeff Jones
ho virtually single-handedly won the Munster Garrison
athletics competition for the Workshop Team. Jeff has had a
c*-y sporting month as he has also represented the Corps at
: jket and along with Lieutenant Simon Hall, Lance Corporal
al Tonks and Private Mick Callaghan has collected a trophy
or being part of the Workshop football team which won the
funster Garrison League.
Corporal Harry Pelling is leaving a trail of broken hearts
hroughout Germany, and is thoroughly enjoying himself in his
iew posting—particularly our Tuesday and Thursday runs. We
re ail very worried about our two other recent arrivals Lance
"orporal John Entwistle and Private TafT Jones,
John has
dunteered for both MT1 and NBC courses and TafT Jones does
oluntary overtime—can someone recommend a good doctor
L> this behaviour is most disturbing!
Corporals Brian Low and Joe Leatherbarrow are con-
c i l i a t e d on their RPCl passes. Further congratulations go to
Corporal Harry Pelling and Lance Corporal Geordie Wilson
in the award of their respective substantive ranks. Corporal
Pom Povey continues to persevere with his HGV3 training for
Privates Mark Harvey and Scooter Foye and is duly being
lominated for an award for outstanding bravery. Lieutenant
iimon Hall, Staff Sergeant Benny Gorbould and Lance Corporal
>tan Preston are still recovering from their exhausting recce in
Bavaria.
Last but by no means least we are all looking forward to
he return from his trade course of Private Steve Richardson.
iteve has been missed so much that all the clerks have been
laving to work overtime—or could it be something to do with a
iefence audit?
86 SUPPLY DEPOT
MAJOR CHARLES McINNES, OC 86 Supply Depot RAOC
for the last five years, has finally vacated the * hot seat' for a
quieter life on retirement After over thirty six years service
Charles is still not totally cutting his ties with the Army as his
lew career is with 154 (Lowland) Transport Regiment RCT (TA)
n Edinburgh as a PSAO. It just remains for us to sincerely
*ish Charles and Jean the very best of luck in their new en-
vironment—Good Luck Boss.
Also leaving the unit shortly will be our CQMS, Staff
Sergeant Brian Scribbins who goes to Bicester for his last few
months in the Army. Our sincerest wishes go with Brian and
family. It has been a pleasure to know them.
Finally, we have just bade farewell to 6 Supply Platoon
RAOC (TA) whom we have been hosting for the past fortnight
As ever, it was a pleasure to have the TA with us. Their
lbviuus enthusiasm and pride in appearance should be a lesson
.o us all.
assisted by his second-in-command (again yours truly) and
willing warriors repulsed the attack. The second day consisted
of a simulated enemy attack which included low level attacks by
aircraft, helibome forces landing and mortars.
The third day was a section competition for the three Com-
panies over a sixteen kilometre route with various obstacles
and military skills stands. The last day of the exercise was
exciting as we had a chance to fire weapons of various foreign
armies. All in all it was a good exercise and 1 am sure each
and everyone of us learnt something from it.
On to some sports news. The Company achieved runners-
up position in the 4th Armoured Brigade Minor Units League
and the football team under the management of Sergeant Brian
Robertson is to be congratulated. The Alan Cable player of the
year award went to Staff Sergeant Ted Curtis and was presented
to him at an excellent dinner held at the Coerheide Hotel.
Well done.
In the 4th Armoured Brigade Minor Units athletics meet-
ing the Company, under the tutelage of our young, rarin to go,
Second Lieutenant Phillip, put up a creditable performance in
face of stiff opposition and achieved third place. Well lads
here are your names in lights—congratulations to the following
personnel: Lance Corporal Roy Rowland, Corporals Ray
Rigden and Phil Hussey, Privates Paddy Walsh, Jock McLuskie
and Nookie Nauyokas.
The OC took a bunch of stalwarts off sailing with him in
the 2nd Armoured Division sailing regatta and cries of "Avast
there" "Splice the mainbrace" and "Where's the bailer " still
reverberate around the Storeshed!

Corporal Charlie MacManus, Privates Frank Irving, Leslie
Topham, Tarn Robertson and Peter Jackson.

ORDNANCE
COMPANY
AS I start to write these
notes I begin to wonder
if readers have worked
out my indentity. If
you have not then you
just have to keep on
guessing.
This month started off with our most important exercise of
the year. It was the Commander's Supply Exercise Iron Band
IX, As this is the only time during the year when Headquarters
RAOC 2nd Armoured Division can take us into the field; the
Company was tested on all aspects not only in its technical role
but also on the military skills of all soldiers. This was a two
week exercise, with the first week being devoted entirely to
convoy drills, movement and camouflage.
The second week was an eye opener to quite a few people
i the Company especially yours truly. The first day saw the
Company digging in and constructing trenches with corrugated
iron sheets and picket posts. We were attacked by men from
1 KOSB in the position defended by No, 2 Piatoon.

C R A O C Lieutenant Colonel Willis decided
earlier in the month that his officers needed
some education so we held a most enjoy-
able Study Day. Nearly all of the RAOC
Officers in the Division attended and it
proved successful enough that the event is
to become a regular feature in the calendar.
The CRAOC has been jet-setting
recently. He spent the first two days of one
week in Blackdown giving the All Arms
urse
the
benefits
of his experience and the next three in
QM co
Berlin experiencing its particular benefits, whilst attending the
BAOR Accommodation Services Convention
