Transcription Exercise Summer Sales begins and the departmental prepara-
tions reflect the differing interests of the RAOC staff. Major
Peter Lamb has been down on his knees in the office apparently
praying to Ratingen as he glues maps together. Sergeant Mead
has been frantically trying to find reasons why he should stay
behind as rear party. Corporal Hogg's main aim seems to be
one of finding someone else to sign for all the vehicles. Cap-
tain Campbell's time seems filled with organizing exercise foot-
ball matches.
Norma, one of our typists has just departed Headquarters
RAOC and the interviews, for a replacement proved more like
auditions for Charlie's Angels. In spite of this problem we
now have a new addition to the staff and say farewell to Norma
and welcome Fiona.
Penny, our Combat Supplies clerk has been in hospital
and we wish her a swift and complete recovery—we all miss
you (and the work is piling up!). Sergeant Carey's replacement
has now arrived in the shape of Sergeant Kev Rothwelh
ORDNANCE
COMPANY
THE company's contribution to the world of sport was, as
usual, at a constant high standard notably in the field of soccer
and athletics,
Notable victories were against 49 RP Coy four one.
(Please note ex 4 ADOC and future 49 RP Coy!), 1 ADOC
five four and three one, 2 ADOC five three on aggregate in the
semi final of the CC RAOC Cup, 1 CTOC four one in the
semi final of the DOS Cup. Probably the most satisfying result
was against 3 ADOC in the first round of CC RAOC Cup with
wins of six three at home and nine two away. Sweet revenge
after being beaten in the final in the previous year.
We beat I (BR) Corps Stores Coy/Veh Coy in the CC
RAOC cup final two one, A very exciting final enjoyed by all
spectators. Goals by Corporals Smudge Smith and Paul Banks
and some stout defending in the last ten minutes saw us hang
on to a very hard fought victory.
Our final in the DOS Cup is delayed until next season
due to opponents, RAOC Fallingbostel commitment to Northern
Ireland.
In the BAOR mini minor units cup we sent a team off to
play 229 Signal Squadron in the wilds of Berlin (nudge nudge
wink wink).
Not all has been victory however, we lost to C Bty RHA
one nil (the eventual winners) in BAOR minor units cup and 54
Sqn RCT two one (the eventual winners) in 4 Div minor units cup.
Overall a successful season. Thanks to Lance Corporals
Jock Low, Paul Wells and Trev Horn, Privates Mac Simpson and
Tac Sign Smith who played part of the season but were then
posted. Special mention to Lance Corporal Paul Wells who
only missed the finals. We will forward a trophy!
All these postings make vacancies in the squad so new
talent always welcome. If you are into football and reckon you
can tackle it then get a posting to 4 ADOC but hurry the com-
petition is fierce!
Apart from the normal production in athletics, this last
month, of individual stars like Staff Sergeant Lambert who took
first place in the javelin at the RAOC athletics meeting we are
now venturing inlo the field of tug-of-war, The TOW Squad
now disappear into the gym for two hours each morning.
Our first competition pull was at the BAOR RAOC Athletics
where we produced a creditable third with our light team, and
fourth with our * heavies.*
On the promotion side we see Corporals Smith (Small) and
Walters with their second tape and Craftsman Jimmy Parkes
with his first one, Corporal Clark is posted on promotion.
Congratulations go to both the 2IC Captain Richard Coward
for his PQS2 result and to Lance Corporal Nipper Stray for
producing a son—Kevin, also to Private Hicks for production
of a daughter—Daniel a,
Posted in are Staff Sergeant Lambert (CQMS), Sergeants
Sharpe and Tapper, Corporals Banks, Reid and Wotton, Lance
Corporals Grinrod and Jones and Privates Burns, Daly, Lunn,
McMahon and Sanders. Our warmest welcome goes out to
them.

WITH a slight lifting of fuel restrictions the MT has thrown the
unit into a large driver training programme. This programme
was kicked off with Exercise Spring Drive, which, apart from a
number of unit moves, included cross country driving for every-
body including non-drivers. This was then followed up by
driver training in barracks and the unit is now fourteen drivers

better off. Well done, but a special congratulation must go to
Corporal Done, who passed on his third attempt.
However, it has not been all work and no piay. The OC
decided that he would run an adventure training sailing trip to
Kiel to prepare his totally novice crew for the forthcoming
RAOC BAOR Offshore Regatta, Four days and several Danish
ports later the crew was learning just which rope or sheet to
pull, even if Lance Corporal Saxby did lose the mooring line,
sunglasses and have to comb his hair in the process.
Meanwhile, back in Gutersloh the Company held a families
day, the highlight of which was the lad ies v men football, in
which the ladies were led to a comfortable victory by Mrs
Harrop.
This was followed by greasy pole pillow fights,
1
childrens games, select a store and driver training for the ladies
in a Bedford MK. The most enjoyable day was well rounded
off with an open air disco and bar-b-q.
The Company entered the Harz Walkabout Competition.
Two days and about eighty kilometres later the OC and W02
Nimmons showed the youngsters that the L old ones ' can
still do it.
At the end of a very busy month it was decided that some-
thing had better be done about the fast approaching BAOR
Sports Day. W02 Bob Nimmons was tasked with forming and
administering the Corps Troops Team, of which the Company
provided eighty per cent of the team members. The team had
a shaky start but on the big day in Paderborn surprised every-
body by winning the Field Events Trophy, the Field Force
Trophy and coming second overall to Bracht.
Finally, our congratulations to Corporal and Mrs Paine and
Lance Corporal and Mrs Draper on the birth of their sons.
CORPS STORES
COMPANY
THIS month has been taken up almost entirely with Exercise
Gillian Locksmith, the Company adventure training period in
Bavaria. If there is any connection in the exercise code name
and any person living or dead this is pure coincidence as Lock-
smith was supplied by Corps Headquarters and Gillian by
the 2IC—who claims he doesn't know any!
The advance party set up a tented camp at Bodelsburg.
near Kempten, despite a twenty four hour delay in the arrival
of the truck with the tents on due to mechanical breakdown, and
Sergeant Webster had the first of his excellent meals ready
for the arrival of the main body. Staff Sergeant West had in
the meantime established contact with the best Bavarian
butchers and bakers so that the body, if not the soul, was ready
for adventure training.
Water for canoeing, rocks for abseiling and mountains for
climbing were not too great a problem for the 2IC to organise,
but a long flat stretch of land for parascending, without marsh,
powerlines or trees, between mountains, was a tittle more
difficult to find! However, with the help of Sergeants Simpson
and Anderson, the parascending instructor, kindly loaned to us
from the Vehicle Company for a week, a site was found at a
gliding club where the hearts and minds operation worked so
well that several parascenders were taken up on gliders for
trips. Rumours that Private Pollock was the first of these in-
trepid fliers because the remainder of the company thought/
hoped that the flimsy craft would not return, are without much
substance!
