THE QUEENS MEDAL COMES TO
THE CORPS YET AGAIN
IN July 1980, Lance Corporal Phil Weatherby won the Queens
Medal. In July of this year, he proved to the shooting fraternity
that he really is the best shot in the Territorial Army, by win-
ning it again.
Winning the Queens Medal is the highest honour that can
be attained for shooting within the TA and to win it two years in
succession is a feat of which our Corps can be proud The
only other time the * double ' has occurred was also by a member
of the Corps (TA) Shooting Team ; Sergeant Trevor Haynes some
ten years ago.
For those readers who are not in on the shooting world,
the Queens Medal is a prize awarded annually to the person who
gains the most points during the first three days of the Bisley
Service Rifle competitions—you will appreciate therefore that
the medal winner is deserving of that honour.
It is also a recognised military decoration to be worn along-
side other decorations.
In recognition of this achievement, the Commander CVHQ,
promoted Phil Weatherby in the field, and we all offer our
warmest congratulations and thanks to Corporal Weatherby
for once again bringing honour to the RAOC.
No one has done the hat trick—three years in succession—
yet!
