MILITARY
OPERATIONS
WE have had a fairly quiet month in
Military Operations and have only one
new face in the corridor. We would
like to welcome our new SO/DMO,
Major Brian Casbolt, who joins us
from Bicester and wish him an enjoy-
able tour.
Staff Sergeant Tony Townsend and Corporal Pauline Cove
have had the pleasure of the Centre Court at Wimbledon and
have been the envy of us all. Needless to say they had a
wonderful two weeks.
Staff Sergeant Harry Hay who has just moved into M02
as Chief Clerk is rinding the pace of life somewhat slower to
that of MOl and is finding the time to complete his crossword
cefore lunchtime, something he was never able to do while
serving his apprenticeship in MOl.

THE photograph opposite shows Miss Karen Robinson at the
DLSA Summer Fete. By hitting a target, shown on the left of the
photograph, the bed tipped and Karen received an early—and
cold, bath. The DLSA Summer Fete was a great success, we were
lucky with the weather and large numbers of people. As well as
the very popular Duck the Lady stall, there was target foot-
ball, small bore shooting amongst others. The Guild of St
Helena sold cakes and home produce from a popular stall.
The Wives Club and the Thrift Shop were well supported. One
of the highlights of the afternoon was the Corps Band which
entertained an appreciative audience. We are to see them back
again shortly at the opening of the new Didcot Civic Centre.
The weather however was not so kind for our Summer
Cocktail Party. The rose garden was looking very attractive,
fortunately the rain eased long enough for the Corps Band to
Beat Retreat. Farewell to Major Geoff and Rosemary Thomas
and Major Mike and Ann Davison. Major Geoff is off to com-
mand an Ord Company and Major Mike is off to learn joined
up writing at Manchester University, Rosemary Thomas and Ann
Davison will be specially missed for all their hard work on
the Wives Club and Thrift Shop. We welcome Major Roger
Bicknell, Major Jasper Hunt and their families to Didcot.

S MAN 1. "Our next input will read like musical chairs "
commented one officer viewing the recent movements pro-
gramme with trepidation. So we are happy to report that, with
only minor problems, the multitude of changes took place un-
eventfully. Needless to say that all were successfully wined and
dined out before their departure.
Without further ado let us say our farewells to Colonel
John Turner on his posting to Donnington, Lieutenant Colonel
Bernard Miles all the way to Ord 3 (three hundred metres), Major
John Taylor-Firth RTR to the wonders of DMAO, Major Stan
Sedman LI back into the folds of the * Green Mafia ' of 5 LI,
Mr John Bentley on promotion to HEO and move to F6 (Air).
We welcome Colonel Bob Herdman from DSCS, Lieutenant
Colonel John Royle on promotion from ChilwelL Major Ian
Chapman, Para, from Zimbabwe, Captain Mike Southworth
from the land of LOA, Staff Sergeant Greg Gregory from
Bicester and Mrs Daphne Waine from the joys of house-
keeping.
Vying with all these changes is Christine Keil's own change
Karen takes a bath.
from a Miss to (a hit?) Mrs, Christine, the clerical officer in
S Man lb(3), married Nigel, a local mechanical engineer. A
very popular match, the sun shone and a large proportion of
Andover turned up waving flags -mind you it was carnival
day! Needless to say S Man 1 was well represented at the
evening reception. We all wish Christine and Nigel a very
happy future together.
CONTROL
DIVISION
FROM Issues Branch we hear that Major Norman Stack has
written to Barbara Woodhouse on how to train Snoopy to work
properly.
W02 Pete Beatty has again successfully bribed
records and is posted to RBMR Brunei in October. He is leader
of the office ' water-babies,* having just completed an inter-
mediate diving course at Plymouth. Leading Seaman (Occasional
Corporal) Des Hardon has been seen in work collecting his mail
between voyages. Lance Corporal Kevin Glasspool, not to be
outdone, fell off his boat during a holiday on the Norfolk
Broads. One person to keep his feet firmly on dry land is
Corporal Alan Meigh, who completed the Otmoor Challenge
in a very respectable time. The Challenge is an annual run and
race organised in the Village of Horton-Cum-Studley and is used
to raise money for various charities. This year quite a sum of
money was donated, as a result, to a local old peoples home.
This month we welcome in W02 Dave Francis. Staff
Sergeants Bob Barr and Paul Moore, and Sergeant John Hollis,
who incidentally promptly disappeared on a provision course,
Staff Sergeant Geoff Davis will soon be leaving us temporarily
for Exercise Long Look in Australia. Departing permanently
on posting will be Staff Sergeant Greg Gregory to LE(A) Andover
and Staff Sergeant Taff Stallard to Cyprus. Rumour has it that
he is going to join the British Institute of Non-Destructive Test-
ing. How's your lawnmower Dai? Finally a sad farewell to WOl
Keith Harvey who is leaving the army after twenty three years
service. Keith, whose capacity for hard work is well known,
will be sadly missed by DSM(A). We wish him all the best in
his new job with the Nuclear Physics Department at Oxford
University.
VEHICLE
DIVISION
THE Military cell of MT Stores Provision Branch continues to
pound the asphalt with relentless mindlessness. For variety, on
a recent nine mile orgy, the FUP and Obj were coincident at an
ex loc, the nickname of which is ' Dog and Duck.' It is reported
that the early leader in this epic, Sergeant Don MacLean (a well
known Scot) took a dive since he was in grave danger of arriving
first at the bar and having to pay for his refreshment.
Lance Corporal Jim Cockerill of the same Branch has
returned from a successful throat operation in QEMH Wool-
