Headquarters Scotland
THE highlight of the month has been of
official opening of the Rebuild at
Regional Depot Stirling- As can be seen
from the report elsewhere in THE GAZETTE
it was a most successful occasion,
The Staff at Headquarters Scotland
can be forgiven for thinking we are play-
ing musical chairs in Ord Branch as we
have a mass changeover this month.
Major Roger Bicknell has left us for
DLSA to tie flies and control shotgun
cartridges. We wish him luck, perhaps
DLSA will have more success than we did
keeping him in the office. In his place as S Man we welcome
Ljor John Schreuder from DSM Vehicle Division. His local
:ent has not passed unnoticed. Major Joe Roynon-Jones leaves
• new pastures in the land of Recruiting as the Schools Liaison
Eicer for Glasgow and the South West, With schools on
iiday and recruiting at a standstill Joe has timed his move
11, his golf should benefit. Major Ian McKinnon moves
eways to take over the Org and Plans job while Major Richard
per) Powell returns to Scotland from, Donnington to lake
er the Combat Supplies. The ROs sit and smile, they've
:n it all before.
Our Leader is somewhere in the Sands of Morocco topping
his suntan, WOl Chris Kenyon the DOWO had a surprise
it from W02 Nalone who, rumour has it, is to be his relief
AOC Records Please Note). Last but not least our Fire
lief has been seen looking at new car brochures in preparation
r a tour in BAOR.
The weather has been the main topic of conversation this
5nth, up here in the far north it has not actually snowed yet
it it has affected the golf!
South East District
WE have two visits of the DGOS to
report this month. Firstly he came to the
Headquarters to meet the GOC, General
Sir Paul Travers and to he briefed by the
CRAOC and his staff on the current
situation in the District This included
such matters as effects of the moratorium
and cuts in fuel allocations, all good
stuff I
The second visit was unique, in that it
is the first time in living memory that any DGOS has visited
s AES at Shorncliffe or the Stores Section at 44 Command
orkshop. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for OSU
>hford which the DGOS also visited The visit clearly shocked
e three units, as all of them have sent contributions to us for
elusion in THE GAZETTE, so no more will be said here.
Both CRAOC and Captain Ian Jones have been involved with
e USAF Base at Greenham Common recently. Firstly Colonel
lepherd the Chairman of Army Gliding has been busy with the
ational Gliding Championships held at the airfield. The weather

The DCOS with Mr Bob Poulton at Ashford.
for the week unfortunately was not ideal for gliding (torrential
rain), but even so a successful and enjoyable time was had by all.
Captain Ian Jones was detached for a week to the airfield
to assist with the International Air Tattoo organised by the RAF
Benevolent Society. The run up to the show was hard work
and everyone was on site from dawn until dusk each day. By
Friday evening, all was prepared for the display and the
organisers disappeared for a well earned pint. The display itself
was a huge success with over two hundred thousand people
turning out to watch the flying display and wander round the
static exhibitions,
An interesting and amusing time was had by all the staff
when we had to pose for a Headquarters SEDIST photo-
graph, it is not easy organising sixty plus officers for such an
occasion. The result is now displayed in the main entrance to
the Headquarters and many officers can be seen at all hours
discreetly trying to pinpoint their exact location.
Finally we welcome Lieutenant Colonel Bogan to the OSU
at Liphook and FSD3 Jim Davie who takes over the AFB Station
at Shrivenham.
AES SHORNCLIFFE, Amidst the doom and gloom of studies
on AES closures, the amalgamation of ASAs and Estate Wardens
etc, our cheerfulness was restored when the DGOS, accompanied
by CRAOC, decided to visit us recently. In living memory this
was the first occasion that such an event had taken place. Un-
less of course, in the words of Esther Rantzen, you know
differently!
During the visit, the DGOS made a presentation on behalf
of our staff, to Mr Bob Poulton who will be retired when these
notes go to press. Bob left the Royal Fusiliers in 1967 in the
rank of W02, after serving thirty one years and in that same
year joined Barrack Services. He soon became known in the
Ashford area for his tolerance, fairness and above all his willing-
ness to help both the resident unit and individual customers. We
wish him every happiness in his retirement.
Major Arthur Attwood is busy studying resettlement litera-
ture in preparation for his imminent retirement. The 2IC,
Captain Harry Twitchett, may well find himself in the hot
seat and is not sure whether this is in return for good work
rendered or a penalty clause in his career! In any event to help
him on his way urgent steps have been taken to send the CASO,
Mr Jack Buckles, on an Accommodation Services course at
Blackdown and to try to re-muster the Office Manager, Mr Jack
Boxall, into the Accommodation Services world.
In conclusion it is with deep regret that we record the death
of Mr Peter Brogan who died from injuries received in a traffic
accident. He will be sorely missed in Shorncliffe and our
deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Mary and family.
OSU ASHFORD. The past few months have seen quite a change
in faces within the unit. Recent arrivals have been Miss Turner
into the TMP as a CA, Mr Nicholson and Mr Healing into
ASG, Mr de Frien as a driver and our new cleaner cum girl
Friday, Miss Alexander. The Youth Opportunity lads have now
left and shortly a couple more will be arriving soon to be taught
basic store keeping duties. Their presence does tend to lower the
average age of the Industrial Staff somewhat!
Lieutenant General Sir Paul Travers, the new GOC South
East District paid a flying visit to see us. Major General and
Mrs Brown, accompanied by Colonel and Mrs Shepherd were
