The unit team.
and Lance Corporal Roberts, really know whether it's best to
go to camp or stay and issue stares. It's a case of ' get some
in ' at camp or * get some o u t ' in the storehouse—very confusing.
Lance Corporal Skinner has at long last officially re-badged
into the RAOC and at least looks like a real storeman, which
is more than can be said for Lance Corporal Townley who
comes to work bleary-eyed and tired complaining about being
up all night with the new baby. However, well done Mrs
Townley, you keep him at it.
Once again the Full Bore Shooting Team took off to
compete, this time in the Rhine Area Skill-at-Arms Meeting.
The five day meeting took place at Haltern and throughout
the competition the team maintained a good position, so much
so that on the final day, with only the LMG Competition to go,
they were lying first equal with CRE Rhine Area, WOI *Steve'
Myers telephoned the CO and Lieutenant Colonel Ewens duly
appeared in his combat kit anticipating another avalanche of
silver. He was unfortunately doomed to disappointment; a
matter of three LMG rounds consigned us lo second place from
a field of eleven in the Minor Units Cup. The team photo-
graph shows: Back row left to right: Corporal Dunn, Sergeant
Sebburn, WOI Myers, Staff Sergeant Crabbe, Corporal Joss,
Front row left to right: Staff Sergeant Robinson, Staff Sergeant
Ward, Private Maxwell, Corporal Bo us field, Corporal Marshall.
left for BATUS. NAAFI are reviewing their stocks of frfo
Ewans and the Mess Steward has left! Enough said.
Initial interviews tend to be traumatic affairs, unless your
name is Corporal Jeff Edwards, welcome to the unit and con- J
gratuiations on your promotion. The next tape, I'm afraid
will take a little longer.
The CO, Lieutenant Colonel John Sharland last week
presented part of the Station Fete proceeds to the local home f or
disabled children. The picture shows Mrs Sharland presenting
the cheque,
And now over to our Vogelsang correspondent:
154 FAD has just completed two enjoyable weeks at Vogelsang
on our annual summer camp. The weather was most kind to
us and everyone came back looking healthier and Feeling much
fitter than when they left. Well—much filter anyhow!
CSM Todd Slaughter started off the week with a visit to
the local fairy castle. It was a wonderful evening, and all those
who behaved themselves were treated to a firework display on
the way home. It was lovely—thank you so much Sergeant
Major!
Staff Sergeant Roy Crowshaw proved that it is not just
his banjo playing that has helped him survive so long in Wulfen.
—he is now nicknamed * Basher.'
Sergeant Martin Winter RAPC can count up to forty with-
out any problems—it must be about that in kilometres from
Aachen to Vogelsang especially by foot!—1 prefer the old 'tin
can' myself.
Lieutenant Phil Bean has learned that RVs look much-
different at night than they do in the daytime—that is if you can
find them.
Staff Sergeant Scobie Kirtley was seen to collapse with
enjoyment on seeing the Chief Clerk W02 Ken Quinn attempt-
ing to enter his sleeping bag which had been sewn-up by some
miserable little trickster—the last laugh will be on the Chief-
Sergeant Alex Kelly has spilt Lhe beans!
The weeks went without incident until the very last day
when we were practicing the thirty foot rope trick from a Puma
helicopter—how in heavens name did Private Sid Hobbs manage
to get his feet wrapped up in the crewmans intercom system!

DEPOT
IT is normal to list visitors to a unit but
when there are one hundred and twelve of
them it can be wearing, so suffice to say
that it was pleasant to welcome 52 Com-
pany (V) to what must have been the
wettest summer camp in living memory!
They certainly enjoyed their stay at Ypres
— sorry* Haltern — in the company of
Brigadier Keith Berresford who joined
them in the trenches.
As a non combatant, sedentary type I welcomed the peace
and quiet of the unit whilst the more regimental * chaps' were
on summer camp in Vogelsang. The only sound in the head-
quarters was that of right arms being exercised in prepartion
for Nijmegen as * Crawford's O w n ' underwent their nightly
training,
Of Vogelsang, I shall say nothing except that the roar
of acclaim that greeted Sergeant Mike Shaw as he passed his
BFT rivalled that heard at the White City when Banister crashed
the four minute mile—well done!
The Station cricket team, unbeaten in ten matches, is now
in the final stages of three competitions. This week we meet
Ordnance Depot Viersen in two of them. New stars have
emerged this year among them Sergeant Ben Bienkowski, of
Polish Test fame and Lance Corporal Taffy Jones one of the
more loquacious members of the team. Their job is not only
to bat, bowl and field but also to carry the skipper on and off
the ground.

Well done indeed—and the same goes for Captains
