FORTY
Corporal Richardson gets to grips with his class,
The exercise ended on a gratifying note with a five and a
quarter mile downhill ski run by members of the Battalion
starting at the summit of Mount Cairngorm and ending at the
camp site in Glenmorc Forest. Regrettably Bicester seems a
very dull place now; never mind, another eleven months and
we can do-it again—please??
YEARS
ON
VISITING Officers and those who have served in Hong Kong
will already know how much we value the services of our locally
employed Chinese staff,
At the beginning of the year we said goodbye to the last
remaining member of the old Barrack Services RASC staff who
had served continuously since 1937 apart from an enforced
break from December 1941 to 1945 during the Japanese
occupation of Hong Kong.
Mr Cheung Chiu Shun originally joined Barrack Services as
a clerk in the Barrack Store in Queensway on Hong Kong island
and can be seen in the back row of the accompanying photo-
graph, he is the second from the left. The photograph was
taken about 1938.
Mr Cheung was promoted to Barrack Inventory Accountant
in July 1946 and was employed as the Barrack Store Accountant
from 1955 until his recent retirement. After numerous moves
over the years he said farewell to the Service where he started—>
at the Accommodation Store, Queensway.

IRON
DIVISION
3RD ARMOURED DIVISION have recently brought out an
excellent hardback on the Division, written by Robin McNish.
Titled " Iron Division " it is a good buy at its ' no-profit' price,
Formed by Wellington in Portugal in 1809, the 3rd Division
played a leading part in the battles of the Peninsular War. In
1815 it bore the brunt of Napoleon's attacks at Waterloo, and
in the Crimea and South Africa, shared reverses and frustrations
with the rest of the British forces engaged,
The 3rd Division fought with distinction as an infantry
division in 4 the World Wars of the twentieth century, earning the
nickname Iron Division' in 1916, and assaulting Hitler's
Atlantic Wall on D-Day ? 1944. In postwar years, in close
cooperation, with 38 Group Royal Air Force, the Division has
formed the United Kingdom's airportable Strategic Reserve,
despatching troops for operations in all parts of the world from
Borneo to Ulster. Having been reformed in BAOR as 3rd
Armoured Division on 1st January 1978, the Division is now
stationed on the Continent as part of Britain's contribution to
NATO Alliance.
By using personal accounts wherever possible, this new
books tells how the Division and its soldiers have fared in
success and adversity, in war and turbulent peace, from the time
