ORDNANCE
COMPANY
E begin with the Company on display on Exercise Staff College
:monstration. Set up in location on the Sennelager Training
ea students from the Staff College were shown what an
dnance Company consists of and how it works. After the
s displays, Regimental Training was carried out under the
dance of Lieutenant Bunny Brownlee.
But the exercise was not all work and midway through the
ercise the Annual Families Day was held. Activities for all
; family were available, boat rides, slides and swings and a good
y was had by all.
One of the evenings activities was training for the Harz
ountain Walkabout; the squad set about serious running and
lining paid off. The final team selected, Lieutenant Ray
ndle, Privates Gary Capper and Tony Bland, finished nine-
rath out of the eighty teams taking part
Another happy event was the Company ten mile bash. In
altering heat, in full webbing, with platoon weapons, we made
i distance in a fine time, a good reflection on the Company's
ness.
The athletics team competed in two major events. Firstly,
the Inter Minor Unit Competition, the team came third,
id in the RAOC BAOR Athletics the team came away with
ree trophies and numerous medals. An especially good per-
rmance by Lance Corporal Carl Patterson gained him the
ng jump prize and runner-up in the high jump.
We must welcome our new Officer Commanding, Major
e Roberts, who we hope will enjoy his stay as much as the
L one, Major Baz Dickson, to whom we wish good luck.
The Company had a two day deployment exercise in the
aitern area as an OC's Handover exercise. Second Lieutenant
Ian Paramo re would like to make it plain to everyone that he
d not intend to reverse Corporal Paddy Fleming into the
tch.
The adventure training in the Harz started off in quite
lendid style with bright sunshine and a very pleasant camp site
Sieber.
On the first day the Company climbed at Scharzfield under
i watchful eye of Staff Sergeant Geordie Ridley. Lieutenant
-v Tindle then took his party of budding moles off to Bad
rund for some caving. They returned looking like monsters
0111 the deep,
A smaller group from the Company travelled to Kiel, to
learn to windsurf. sail and canoe under the instruction of Second
Lieutenant Paul Saddleton, There was also a three day cruise,
aboard a yacht around the Baltic.
Congratulations are due to two members of the unit. Firstly,
to Sergeant Woolacott ACC who has qualified for the all
England Fly Fishing Championships, with a chance to represent
England. He is also representing the Army in a Fly Fishing
competition against the RAF and Navy.
Congratulations are also due to Craftsman Geordie Foster
on the presentation of his Zimbabwe medal.
We say goodbye to Lieutenant Brownlee, Private Steve
Mackey and Jock McColl.
We welcome Sergeant Hart, Corporal Ken Ball, Lance
Corporal Ginge Pritchard and Privates Scouse Greer, Steve
Clancy, Bob Fuller and Jock Martin and hope they will enjoy
their posting.
STORES SECTION 26 FIELD REGIMENT WORKSHOP.
The
boss, WOl Danny Danvers, managed a cross posting with WOl
John Malm. The first two important tasks were to buy a new
car and install an intercom in the section. The latter was to
improve the lead time between ordering his hourly cuppa and
receiving it. Staff Sergeant Steve Swales heads the PC and A
and still maintains that stores are meant for storing, if they were
meant to be issued, they would be called issues. He is ably
assisted by Corporal Andy Carr and Private Woody Woodruffe.
Corporal Carr is to be congratulated on achieving first place
on his MTIs course, and Private Woodruffe on being upgraded to
B2.
The Storehouse is run by Sergeant Alan Sargeant. His merry
band of storemen are Corporal Geordie Purkins, Lance Corporals
Pete Still and Wurz Lester and Private Jock Hock. Corporal
Purkins managed to get away on Exercise Snow Queen and
returned without any broken limbs. Lance Corporal Still has
hardly been seen in the section, if he's not on Regimental or
Battery exercises, he's away on well deserved leave. Lance
Corporal Lester who is the longest serving member of the unit,
decided to change his trade from Driver and achieved a very
creditable first place on his Storemans Course.
The MT section, now deserted by Lance Corporal Lester is
functioning with the able assistance of Private Pete Bond who is
shortly to be posted and Private Gaz Wild who realised his
mistake when he told the boss that he has a GCE in art!

remainder of Headquarters DAA> During
I the exercise the staff at DA A demonstrated
some hitherto unseen skills. Major Peter
Lamb, at one stage appointed Commander of the * Lamb Force *
by the GOC was mentioned in exercise despatches. Captain Jon
Campbell gained a reputation for his 'demon dialling digit' in
hearing the intricacies of BRUIN sufficiently well he could 'phone
almost anyone. The CRAOC, Lieutenant Colonel Willis clearly
enjoyed the exercise, and was only just pipped at the post for the
green maggot award.
One welcome break during the exercise was provided by a
football match between the Signals staff of Forward Head-
quarters, and Headquarters DAA, which Headquarters DAA
narrowly lost by three goals to one. It is understood that Lance
Corporal Rees played in another game between Logistic Head-
quarters Staff vs Logistic Headquarters Signals, which the staff
lost seven goals to one,
Once Endex was called the warriors all hastened back to
barracks to clear filing trays, repack fuelage, camouflage vehicles
and exercise kit and prepare for the next outing in September.

since been enjoying a very leisurely introduction and education
into the wheelings and dealings of the Materiel Officer. No rush.

wish him an enjoyable tour in happy Herford.
Harry Petty, the Fire Adviser has just departed with his
wife Pat, for Edinburgh and Headquarters Scotland and his
place is being taken by Cedric Cousins from Headquarters
