ORDNANCE
BRANCH
THE highlight since our last notes has probably been the Ord-
nance Support given to the QOH in their attempt to win the
Canadian Army Trophy. It should be borne in mind that al-
though their final placing was fifth this bears no relation to the
magnificent support given by W 2 Gott and his team who
worked extremely hard to keep our Main Battle Tank on the go!
Whilst on the subject of teams the RAOC Association Annual
General Meeting was held in the JRC Elles Barracks. The
Meeting was fallowed by a most enjoyable games night which
in fact was won by PC and A, led of course by W 2 Gott, Staff
Sergeant Ryan of PC and A fame, is getting very excited about
the closely approaching birth, and we wish Angie all the best at
her very special moment in time,
Congratulations are also in order albeit slightly belated to-
wards Lance Corporal Paul and Linda Johnson on their recent
marriage, we wish them all the happiness in the future.
Whilst on the subject of congratulations it is most certainly
worthy of a mention that our Second-in-Command Richard
Coward has been selected to attend Div 3 at the Staff College—
who says all Commandos have nothing up top!
Congratulations t o : Staff Sergeant Rab Pender on passing
his EPC(A) and QTO Course. Corporal Hall in gaining a
distinction in Military Management and EPC and Corporal Bond
a Distinction in Communication Skills and EPC. Corporal
Doran on passing his RPCL
The comings and goings within the Company have been
such over the past few weeks that it would take probably too
much space within T H E GAZETTE. To all those members of the
Company who have recently departed we wish farewell and to
(hose recently arrived we wish them a happy and prosperous tour.
Before I conclude Staff Sergeant Williams and Sergeant Mont-
gomery of Storehouse fame wish all readers to know they are
still kicking around. They are at the moment building a cage in
which to contain Second Lieutenant Steven Marshall, that is if
they ever find out where he actually is; should anyone find Mr
Marshall would they please return him to Detmoid.
To whom it may concern, W 2 Taff Botrioid has not, as
written in the July issue, changed his name or status to * Toff.*
He wishes to remain affectionately known as ' Taff'!

80 SUPPLY DEPOT
SUMMER and the Exercise period have arrived simultaneously
at 80 Supply Depot and Hannover. This however did not deter
the Unit getting involved in the Hannover Fete where it success-
fully ran an Old Fashioned Coconut Shy and in good Depot
tradition sold fruit and veg donated by local merchants, thus
raising DM421 for charity. Corporal Pete Stewart and Sergeant
Peter Mead both ran the stalls ably assisted by Mrs Stewart and
Miss Horsley, for a change we had a dry day, others of the
unit involved in the stalls erection and running were Sergeant
Taff Roberts and Sergeant Tom Rood.
We had a visit from our Comd Sups, Lieutenant Colonel
Mike Willis, who made the trip from Herford to present a
surprise commendation to our Depot Supt W 2 Terry Stroud.
The commendation in question was the Commander British
Forces Belize Commendation in recognition for his sterling
service whilst on a six month attachment at the Supply Depot
in Belize, all joined in the ensuing congratulations and drinks
in which WOZ Stroud was toasted for the credit he had brought
to the Corps and the Unit
He is shortly to leave us on
posting to Headquarters North East District where he will
assume the appointment of ROWO, all our good wishes go with
him and his family for the future.
We would also like to welcome Sergeant Tony Robinson
who arrived and promptly left for an MHE Course at Bicester!
STORES PLATOON 4 ARMOURED
WORKSHOP
AS the Wetmold summer pours in the activities of the Platoon
remain at a high level. Exercise Moris Dance I, the sequel
to the Staff College Demo, has passed into Historical Records
and VOR statistical returns. Lance Corporal Paul Pennant has
been our roving ambassador support FRG's on Soltau, Munster-
lager and at Graffenwoehr on the prestigious CAT Shoot.
On the home front our contribution to NIRW has com-
menced training and under their leader Second Lieutenant
Keith Tween, they are lost for normal work (malicious rumour
says it's no real loss anyway).
On the sportsfield our star Lance Corporal Spike Asplen
has been winning pots all over BAOR on the athletics track.

Vogelsang in the Eifel
Mountains. The advance party under Lieutenant Worrall and
the- MTO Staff Sergeant Ray Brooks set up shop in Escaut. The
first day dawned bright and early with the groans of the first
PT session at 0630 hours under the beady eye of Corporal
'Steps* Hussey followed by an introduction to the Assault
Course. Unfortunately Private Les Lovatt, who had already
tried to miss Vogelsang by missing the coach the previous day,
finally succeeded after proving that he was not destined to
make the world's first human birdman. Get well soon. The
remainder then threw themselves with gusto into numerous
lectures. TOETS and briefings interspaced with ranges and
sports for the remainder of the two weeks.
The NBC Cell from Headquarters 5 Field Force came down
with a lorry load of ' goodies * for us to try out and watch*
They then planned a little ' infantry T night exercise in full
gear—Second Lieutenant Lovegrove still denies that he meant it
to go on until 0400 hours but was certain that everyone enjoyed
the view from the top of the dam. Corporal Dave Roberts and
Private Ray Ferguson took over the running of a mobile canteen
and sold over eleven hundred rolls, two hundred doughnuts,
six hundred chocolate bars and provided two hundred gallons
of tea or jungle juice—the Company's answer to the NAAFI,
definitely!
The ranges provided everyone the opportunity to try out
every type of weapon and to experience the delights of field
firing with the SMG and SLR. N o one. least of all Lance
Corporal McNairn, can forget the delights of PI with the GSM
encouraging the weary with his handful of thunderflashes and
realistic war cries or the bulls eye scored by Private Frank
Irving with the Company's HEAT round. Staff Sergeant Dave
Jamieson, Sergeant Bob Boneham and Lance Corporal Phillips
provided excellent instruction with the LMGs and GPMGs
across the lake whilst Sergeants Ron and Brian Robertson
ran (literally) the CQB for the SMG.
Second Lieutenant Phillip and the CSM planned numerous
ways to keep us amused during the evenings culminating in a
Patrol exercise set deep in the heart of a South American rebel
state!
The culmination of the camp was a final section com-
petition, watched by Commander 5 Field Force, which ended,
as we had begun, on the Assault Course. Although the Officers
and SNCOs team challenged strongly under the intrepid leader-
ship of the AO Lieutenant Worrall, Corporal Roy Rowlands'
team consisting of Lance Corporals Robertson and Phillips*
Privates Hocking, Haden, Goatcher and Rizvi came first and
were presented with Vogelsang beer mugs as prizes.
The camp was definitely enjoyed by all who took part and
its value was proved in the results of the BFT held the following
week with almost a one hundred per cent pass, CQMS Paul
Thayre is now gleefullly surveying his almost empty am-
muntion store and trying to remember where all the kit was
scrounged from.
We welcome to the unit Lance Corporal Jim Pow and say
goodbye to Corporal Max Towells and family and Corporal
' H ' Riley and family.
