IIKV might get everything back again!
W02 George Arthur, who has been running the Unit funds,
s quickly bought himself a new car, before handing the
j n s over to the 21C. We have just heard that the 21C intends
jying a car on arrival—let's hope the funds can stand it.
Staff Sergeant Enno Olden has been labelled as the phantom
Vhile Hat* searcher. Everytime he enters the 87 Club, he
'muii resist challenging military members, invariably to his
, : Rumour has it that he wears his hat in bed for fear of
Liught off guard.
STORES PLATOON
15 FIELD
WORKSHOP
E returned to Munster amid heavy showers and flood, which
as a bit of a let down after two wonderful weeks away. A
eeks summer camp in Vogelsang sounded great until you arrive
ere! The size of the place, and those steps!
We won the SMG Team Shoot; SLR individual {Lance
orporal John Entwistle) and SMG individual (Staff Sergeant
oyer Blackwood) third.
*" The platoon have found that winning streak, because not
. Jid we win the 'Potted Sports, 1 we also won the inter-
ti vventy overs a side cricket match. We saw a controlled
ineiy eight not out by Staff Sergeant Roger Blackwood, and
ime fierce hitting by Lance Corporal Mac McCarter in his
liny seven, amassing a total of one hundred and seventy nine
)r two wickets and emerging worthy winners by ninety two runs.
Our globetrotters from 12 Armoured Workshop Stores
latoon. Corporal Brian Lowe and Lance Corporal Pat Doherty,
ave just returned from Adventure Training in Attendorn
Jiggesee), and now Brian is off on the Nijmegen Marches; what
^o't the Stocktaking then? Pat continues to chase burglars in
ight, very public spirited Pat
Staff Sergeant Benny Gorbould has finished his treasurers
uties and can now smile again. Corporal Joe Leatherbarrow
nd Lance Corporal Stan Preston have gone to UK on leave;
rivate Jeff Jones is on a Basic German Course—Kommen Sie

orthcoming marriage. We welcome Lieutenant Carins, Private
Lobertson. and the return of Private Sid Rutter from an en-
orced absence.

Companies took part and their effort
Competition losing by a few runs
o I A DOC but still have a chance for glory in the BAOR
rfinor Units Competition. The golfers are all in full swing led
iy Major Thomas who has been invited to play for the RAOC
1AOR team against the RAPC The MTCX Captain Lloyd, has
hreatened to play in the Battalion Golf Competition (he has
i ,,v er played before). He does not see why they need so many
anyway—he is borrowing just a putter for the day!
•3 HP COMPANY.
Summer Camp has come and gone. It was
pent at Butzbach in the * Yankee Doodle Zone * a real home on
he range in more ways than one.
While he was there, Staff Sergeant Mick Farebrother was
Lwarded the order of the Golden Map and is now proposing
enter the all England Map Reading Marathon, if he can
ind England.
Sergeant Graham Drew has, at last, been posted to the
•'cimbat
Section of 3 BAD and has just booked six four-tonners
1
ove the OSU which masquerades as his quarter.
The Company has just finished Rollerball. Lessons were
- ir.i by all, but especially by Corporal Russell—who has given
J
|> barbeques for the rest of the year,
The Admin Section had one of the better sites, with a
deeping area which was a large open barn; the home of at
least three thousand birds (the feathered vanety). It was just
like living in a giant budgie cage. (Pity those who slept with
their mouths open.)
We say hello to Sergeant John Clarke, the new ' Chiefy, 1
Sergeant Stu Murgatroyd, Staff Sergeant Mick Berridge and
Corporal Steve Baker and heartily welcome them to the ' HiUY
Sadly our goodbyes go to Sergeants Dave Brookes and
Paul Dyson on promotion and Sergeant Graham Drew—we can
now leave desks and cupboards open without fear of finding the
contents being relocated wherever the ' Dreaded Drew * hung
his hat.
44 RP COMPANY.
The Battalions summer exercise Rollerball
was the highlight of the month. Once more 44 led the way,
and with considerably less manpower than 43 handled twice
their tonnage with nonchalant ease. 44 Beaver Drivers Rule
OK.
On the social side the Wives Club dinner gave the men an
excuse to practice for the b Fun Bowl.* The great event itself
was a marvellous success, thanks to the organisational genius of
W 2 Mellors, Captain Lloyd, the MTO, has all our sympathy
for not winning a prize.
A visitor this month from London University OTC was
Second Lieutenant Duncan Gibbons. Fresh from the depravity of
further education, he proved to have an aptitude for carnival
floats and an awful taste in music.
Staff Sergeant Foster has now recovered (nearly) from his
argument with the fish tank, but now departs our merry band.
He is Dortmund bound as a W02, and all our best wishes go
with him. Farewell also to Sergeant Ernie Everitt, Corporal
Paterson and Private Hazel Brown. We welcome Corporal Smith-
Hollins, Private Smith, and two masters of the culinary arts
Privates Palin and Ward.
49 RP COMPANY.
Captain Osborne is now qualified as an
accountant, having attended the Service Funds Course: Captain
Callan has been JDSC trained: the OC Major Fleming has
managed to attend the Management Course at the School: and
would you believe Captain Haziewood may be going hang
gliding. The soldiers do not do so badly either, with Corporal
Kyle, Lance Corporals Dickson, Hawkins and Wallace, Privates
Ditchfield, Fearon, Gillies, Keele, Maxwell and Neale attending
a rugged SAS run escape and evasion exercise in Bavaria code-
named Ludwigs Lair.
Congratulations to Staff Sergeant Wilks, our senior AT, on
being awarded the Queens Gallantry Medal for service in
Northern Ireland, and also to our ' t e m p ' CSM, W 2 Avery,
who is posted to Donnington on promotion to RSM (watch those
traffic police, CSM!). W 2 Flowers is to be our new CSM,
joining us from that hive of activity Bicester.
The unit has been on exercise once more, lending class to the
Battalion exercise, 'Rollerball/ Petroleum Platoon found the.
right silos, even though a technical hitch delayed Captain
Osborne's Land Rover and Lance Corporal Hawkins took his
Eager Beaver on the scenic route on the way to the platoon
location,
We do have a problem though: our cup—sorry, trophy-
cabinet—runneth over! Having won the Battalion Cricket Cup for
the third year running, its addition to the cabinet has provoked
suggestions of " w e need two." Congratulations to the team,
consisting of: Corporal Crompton (Capt), W 2 Brooks, Sergeant
Roe, Corporal Lamb, Lance Corporals Daniels, Levett, Mc-
Farlane and McGinley, Privates Fearon, Firth, Gillies and
Knibbs, who beat a strong battalion Officers/Sergeants team. The
unit marching team. Sergeant Dymond, Corporals Calder and
Clarke, Lance Corporal Hardie, Privates Peebles and Smart also
added to the trophy cabinet problem when they competed in the
Nienburg Bundeswehr Reserve March.
Captain Callan with a ' slip of the tongue * suggested a BFT
league table for individuals on our once a week BFT. The
first run produced a mediocre smattering of timings (all passes
though) led by Corporal Clarke who clocked up a creditable seven
minutes thirty five seconds, closely followed by Lance Corporal
Hardie and Sergeant Roe our overworked Chief Clerk: who says
office work makes you unfit?
The OCs eyes have started to glint again—the football season
looms near and even Corporal Percy has taken the hint. Foot-
ball training is in full swing.
