We have just drunk farewell to three of our number at
Hereford, Corporal Ken Whillock, R. Signals and Corporals Bob
King and ' Brummy' Wells, our drivers, the latter is going to
discover the joys of civilian life. We shall miss them all. We
welcome in their places Corporal *Yorkie' Pountain and Lance
Corporals Joe Rafferty and Jim Harry from the Catterick con-
tingent, and also Sergeant Phil Jones who arrived in Hereford
earlier this year, and Sergeant ' Russ' Edwards who has

Senior Instructor Captain N. S. Bell, SAT
WOl J. R. K. Fowles, instructors WOs2
A. T. West and W. 3. Hornsby and civilian
clerk Mrs Jenkins. AH other appoint-
ments remain the same namely Messrs
Gunningham* Munday and Golder.
Group 11C. The group having shed
the usual number of undesirables has
settled into college life. A / T O'Rourke
represents the college at Water Polo and
is a member of his company swimming
team. He is also a member of the college light-weight tug-of-
war team along with A / T Duffy. A / T Thomas represents the
college at fencing and both he and A / T Scott are at present in
training for the forthcoming Army Junior Championships,
A/T Laugh ton is a keen member of the pipe band.
Group 16C. The group has just completed a successful
couple of weeks at CAD Kineton where they have been sub-
jected to ' on j o b ' training and having a taste of depot life.
A/Corporal Rudd and A/Lance Corporal O'Brien have represen-
ted the college at tug-of-war. A/Sergeant Hurray continues his
college rugby, A / T Mansell volleyball, A/Corporal Rudd bad-
minton, A/T France tennis and A/T Gardner fencing.
Congratulations to A/Sergeant Hurry, A /Corporals Rudd,
Trvin and O'Brien on their promotions. Again to A/Sergeant
Hurry for being awarded College Colours, and to A/Corporal
R-;dd and A/T France on their College Half Colours.
WOl Fowles still manages a mean game of rugby for the
college despite the now creaking bones, however at present is
doing his stint across the water, (volunteered I'm told) a likely
story. Staff Sergeant Evans has just returned from across the
water to find he is posted to Hong Kong, Never mind you have
to accept the occasional rough posting.
Congratulations to WOl Fowles on the award of The
Queens Jubilee Medal and to W02 Hornsby on the Long
Service and Good Conduct Medal.
We also congratulate
'Monty' on his promotion to senior storeman and thanks for
th-: most welcome drinks that followed. His claim that his
promotion now makes him Second-in-Command in department
is being considered by the SI1

VEHICLE DEPOT ASHCHURCH
SPRING has hit Ashchurch once again with warmer snow falls
and sunnier cold spells,
Monday to Thursday of each week finds our band of
-vi-iiors enjoying 4 the fine fresh air at the ungodly hour of 0650
to the strains of Ten press ups-down/
Swimming training has started once again, so watch out all
you men from Atlantis.
The hockey team reached the final of the South West
District Minor Units Cup only to be beaten by JLR RAC (PS)
by four goals to two. Do not be misled by the scoreline how-
ever; it was a very close game which went into extra time. Well
done lads.
Congratulations to Stu Laverton on his promotion to Staff
Sergeant, Private Bob and Leslie Sharpies on their marriage,
Private Brian and Jeanne McKeown on their marriage and, to
complete the Wedding Hat Trick, Lance Corporal Stu and Julie
Davies.
Receipts this month include Staff Sergeant Bridgmount and
Private Lowe. Welcome to you both.
In the issues bay we have W02 Dick to Colchester—have
fun, Sergeant Belcher to Civvy Street—good luck, Private Pitcher
to Recklinghausen and Private Softley (at long last) to Moenchen-
gladbach. We bid you all a fond farewell.
VEHICLE DEPOT HILTON
THE Depot was visited by Brigadier Dalton, Director Base
Depots, who commented that it was the first time he had
presented four Imperial Service Medals on the same day. The
four deserving recipients were: Mr Albert Hardy, Mr Jim Lee,
Mr Bill Smith and Mr Alizander Ulicz.
Mrs Cheryl McCreadie has left us temporarily for a Work
Study Practitioners course at Shrivenham; we look forward to
her return to our Work Study Team strength.
Miss Linda Hand is leaving the Vehicle Control Centre
to join the WRAF where she is to train as an Electrical Engineer.
We all wish her well in her new career.
The Depot ladies have turned from netball to football and
recently returned triumphant from Woolwich bearing medals.
They had succeeded in winning a six-a-side competition, having
won the final by three goals to two in a very tense and hard
fought match.
The netball season has just commenced but unfortunately
the first match of the season was lost seven goals to fifteen
against South Derbyshire Miners Welfare. Your scribe has
been assured that the team were lady employees and relatives,
not miners in drag!
The team scored eleven goals in the second game against
Elford but again unfortunately lost because the opponents
scored sixteen goals.
VEHICLE DEPOT LVDGERSHALL
LUDGERSHALL has been inundated with visitors this month,
including a Technical Inspection Team, an Iranian General,
and several Work Study Teams (one of which is the subject of
the poem below). Work has remained hectic and the return of
hordes of Volvos from the AMF(L) haven't eased matters.
Recently we have worked hard, and to prevent Jack fron\
becoming a dull boy we have played hard too. A very success-
ful ' Stag-night' was held in the social club—our thanks go to
Staff Sergeant Duggie Hirst for his efforts.
Corporals Hounsell and Williamson have been spending
some time licking their equipment section into shape ready for
their exercise later this year. We will be glad when they have
gone as it gets tiring leaping over cam nets in and out of offices
all the time. However, it is good practice for our now imminent
BFT test, which it appears, will be a ' magical mystery tour' as
the route has been changed a number of times; ' Q ' (Sergeant
Major) Hutchinson hasn't yet disclosed the start and finish—
perhaps they are still open to negotiations? Congratulations -go
to Ken (Elvis) Lomax on his promotion and transfer to the TLC
of the Regimental Wing.
The 'work study season' has opened and the Kit Stores
are blessed with the presence of WOl Geddes and Mr Ron
Beck the resident team. To sum up our appreciation of the
honour bestowed on us, we have composed the following poem
as a memento of their * unforgettable' stay with us.
Here he comes, it's him again, that time and motion man,
He's got that look about him and he'll catch us if he can,
He marks us down as absent if we're ill or just not there,
Or if he cannot see us, he really doesn't care,
I wonder what he's thinking as he marks us on his list,
Perhaps he's only wondering if there's anything he's missed.
He marks us on our tea-breaks and when we use the Loo
And when we go to wash our hands, he writes all that down too.
He's got his beady eye on us, he really is a pest,
If only he would go on leave and give us all a rest.
I wish he'd wear some clumpy shoes, we'd know when
he's around,
Instead he just creeps up on us and never makes a sound,
We know we have to suffer it until his job is done,
We also know he's bored to tears, it isn't any fun,
But really, what we want to know, perhaps we may be dim,
Is—Who's the guy who goes behind, to time and motion him!
