Transcription RAOC (BAOR) CRICKET
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
j98l proved to be a somewhat disappointing season. Five days
WL -re lost due to bad weather or cancellations and the remaining
faults were, on the whole, mediocre. Still, we beat the RAOC
((jK) XI which visited; good to see many old friends.
The weakness lay mainly in the batting where, unable to
get off to a good start, we were continually struggling. There
were just three scores of over fifty and only Corporal Vince
p r'.on with an average of 29.80 approached respectability. On
i •: ther hand, the bowling was strong, in particular that of W 2
"IiN/y Reifer whose twenty two wickets cost only 4.5 runs apiece.
Useful contributions also came from Corporals Paul Grimsley
and Colin Dickinson and Skipper, Major Steve Goldring (when
he could reach the wicket!) Of the fielding, I shall say nothing;
perhaps Johnno would like to comment!
At the end of every season, there are those who leave. We
bid farewell to Secretary, Major Ben Cooper on retirement,
Thanks Ben, you did a good job. To Sergeant Sammy Williams
who leaves the Army with Corps bowling figures of one for five
r'f live overs (in twenty two years?) but many runs to his
L.-L'.it and a super record behind the stumps, to Corporals
J'aui Grimsley and Colin Dickinson posted to UK, and to Major
Steve Goldring the Skipper for all his hard work. He's off to
UK. as well.
The following players represented the BAOR Corps side
this season:—Brigadier Skinner (one match), Major Goldring
(ten), WOl Forde (ten), WOs2 Reifer (ten), Brathwaite (two),
Sergeants Williams (seven), Wilkinson (two), Corporals John-
son (eight), Dickinson (eight), Simmons (five), Barton (eight),
Onmsley (nine), Bonsu (seven), Robbins (two), Tressler (two),
! •:. mnds (one), Lance Corporals Johnson (six), Jones (four),
&iv,he (one), Hardman (four), Jones (154) (one),
The seasons results were : —
RAOC 81 (Reifer 26); Rheindahlen Garrison 136 (Simmons
4 for 33), lost by 55 runs.
RAOC 119 (Williams 52); GOCs XI Berlin 200 for 9, lost
by 81 runs.
GOCs XI Berlin 156 (Goldring 3 for 32, Dickinson 3 for 32);
7AOC 120 for 9 (Williams 33), drawn.
RAOC SOLDIERS'
ONE DAY PAY SCHEME
THIS has been in operation since 1st April 1981, and
to-date only approximately sixty per cent of all RAOC
soldiers have become subscribers. This voluntary scheme,
in which members agree to contribute a day's net basic
pay each year to Corps Funds, has the approval of the
DGOS because he considers that there are many benefits
to be gained by both the Corps and by those who
participate,
One day's pay from members of the Corps is a
small price to pay for membership of our Ordnance
family and this inflation protected income to our Central
Funds not only enables us to give appropriate support
to our own activities but allows us to meet the con-
siderable commitments we have through the RAOC Aid
Society to serving and ex-members of the Corps and their
dependants who are in need.
THE BENEFITS TO CORPS FUNDS
SUBSCRIPTIONS received under the scheme are credited
to the RAOC Central Sergeants Mess Fund or the Central
PR! Fund, depending on the rank of the subscriber.
From these two Central Funds, allocations are made to
other Corps Funds in accordance with the decisions of
the Board of Trustees which manages the funds,
The major allocations are made to the RAOC Aid
Society (a third of a day's pay), RAOC Sports Associa-
tion, RAOC Association, RAOC GAZETTE and the
Accident Benefit Scheme (an annual subscription).
In addition, minor grants are made to the RAOC
Staff Band, RAOC Museum and the RAOC Memorial
Funds. Thus, all Corps Institutions and Funds benefit
except the RAOC Officers Mess Reserve Fund, RAOC
Centra] Officers Mess Fund, the RAOC Officers Club
and the Colonel Commandant's Benevolent Fund, to
which no allocations are made under this scheme.
THE BENEFITS TO THE
CONTRIBUTING SOLDIER
RAOC 152 for 5 (Williams 35); RMP 28 (Grimsley 5 for 1),
won by 124 runs.
SOLDIERS who contribute to the scheme receive a copy
of the RAOC GAZETTE each month, they are life mem-
bers of the RAOC Association, their annual sports sub-
scriptions are paid automatically and they receive
insurance cover under the Accident Benefit Scheme.
This insurance plan is designed to cover death or loss
of a limb caused by accident in off-duty activities and
gives cover of £2,100 in such unfortunate circumstances.
To-date two claims, each for £2,100, have been settled
and a third claim, also for £2,100, is being processed,
Although not immediately apparent, there are also
advantages to all RAOC Warrant Officers, NCOs and
soldiers from increased money in the RAOC Central
Sergeants Mess Fund, RAOC Central PR I Fund and
in the RAOC Sports Association Fund. As an example,
the Corps is in a much better position to give grants to
unit sports, adventurous activities and functions.
RAOC 152 for 6 (Robbins 40. Forde 40); Infantry 39
(Hardman 5 for 13), won by 113 runs.
RAOC 4S (Goldring 20); R Signals 50 for 4, lost by 6
wickets.
RAOC 228 (Bonsu 35, Goldring 30); RAOC (UK) 91 (Hop-
\ inson 28, Reifer 5 for 17) and 65 (Reifer 4 for 5), won by innings
i' 72 runs.
RAOC 171 for 7 declared (Bonsu 68, Goldring 28); 3 Div
94 for 6, drawn.
RAOC 100 (Banton 35); Rheindahlen Garrison 102 (Reifer
7 for 17), lost by 2 runs.
RAOC 119 for 5 (Wilkinson 56); Moreton CC 118 (Brath-
waite 4 for 22, Goldring 4 for 24), won by 5 wickets,
HOW TO JOIN THE SCHEME
