VEHICLE SUB-DEPOT
MOENCHENGLADBACH
PRIDE of place this month must go to the Unit hockey team
who fought their way to the BAOR (Minor Units) final, and in
a hard fought battle against the current holders, 4 Task Force
and Signal Squadron, were beaten five to two. Special mention
must be made of goalkeeper Corporal John McMullen who
played with a pain killing injection, and but for whose heroism
and reflexes, the score may have been more.
A small band of ten-pin bowlers recently popped over to
UK for the Eleventh Army Ten-Pin Bowling Championships.
Although they were unplaced, the experience put them in good
stead for the BAOR competition, where, although Messrs
Brierley, McMonagle, Holmes, Cradleton, Catchpole and Clowes
were not amongst the silver, the team proved to be a much
happier one than all the others competing, not so much due
to the skill of individuals, but for the comradeship, understanding
and the knowledge that it was always someone else's turn for
the beer!
Staff Sergeant Stan Richmond REME, and his partner Staff
Sergeant Ivy from the Wiliich Workshop were unsuccessful in
their bid for selection for the Great Britain Canoe Team. They
finished in sixth place in the trials which were held in Wales,
but with training every evening and weekend they have their
sights set on the 1981 World Canoe Championships.

STORES SUB-DEPOT VIERSEN
THE Badgers are coming to the end of a very successful rugger
season. To date they have played thirty three games, won
twenty five, lost seven and drawn one, won the Rhine Area
Minor Units Championship, been finalists in the BAOR Cham-
pionships and have scored five hundred and eighty four points
with two hundred and eighty five against. RSM Black, Sergeant
Sott and Corporal Bertram have also represented the Corps.
The badminton team came second in their zone league and
as a result have a ' play-off' against Headquarters BAOR to see
who meets the other zone finalist.
On the hockey pitch all Units in the Viersen complex com-
bined with our Vehicle Sub-Depot cousins under the title of
Headquarters 15 Composite Ordnance Depot and were runners
up to Stores Sub-Depot Dulmen in the DOS BAOR Hockey Cup.

The 15 COD Hockey Team left to right: Sergeant Hart, Sergeant
W-VMJS, Staff Sergeant Reynolds, Corporal Millarship, Corporal
C Jy f W O l Pratt, Sergeant Cradleron, Captain Wiilox, Corporal
Koren, W O Z Stuart and Sergeant Bradley (REME).
Almost ninety members of the West Rhine Branch RAOC
Association were entertained at the Branch Annual Dinner
recently for which we were hosts. Captain Leslie Jordan, who
organised the affair, reports that he and the major-domo for
the evening (W02 Geoff Hutson) had great difficulty in persuading
members to leave at the appointed hour, so the evening can be
judged to have been a roaring success.
Congratulations to Lance Corporal Harvey on promotion
^Corporal. Welcome to Major G. Smith, Captain R. Carey,
^VOl Hillan and Lance Corporals Carpenter and LovelL Fare-
well to Major J. V. Cantor, WOl Cuthbert, W02 Taylor,
Corporals Chesterman, Dempsey and Grogan, Lance Corporal
Watson and Private Broom.
The Rothmans sponsored six-a-side soccer tournament took
place at Rheindahlen and after two resounding wins the Unit
were then beaten by the odd goal on their last three matches.
The team wound up the season with an informal social to which
we were pleased to entertain both Lieutenant Colonel and Mrs
Young, The CO took the opportunity of presenting unit foot-
ball colours to some members of the team. In due course, and
with great hilarity, Staff Sergeant Eddie Wilson (Trainer) presen-
ted the OIC Football (Captain Sider) with three wooden spoons,
one for the League, one for the DOS (BAOR) Cup and one for
the BAOR (Minor Units) Cup, together with a box of matches—
strikers—which were badly needed throughout the season!
Both Sergeants Rod Hart and Dave Siggs took part in
March Hare, a rally sponsored by the Motor Sports Club
Brueggen. This was their first attempt and they finished ninth
in class but took the 'Spirit of the Event' award—a great
achievement for beginners.
It was nice to see Master Ian Young out of hospital at last,
but unfortunately circumstances do not yet permit Ian to return
to school.
Just returned from leave is Major Peter Gibson who com-
plete with car and caravan had a narrowing experience in the
snow bound areas of the Brenner Pass, when both vehicles left
the road.
Luckily unscathed he was able to continue his
journey into Italy, where for a change he decided that in view
of the political situation there, an authorised camp site would
be the place to stay and not the normal lay by. As a matter
of fact* Peter, the only ransom the VSD could have offered in
the event of your abduction by the Mafiosi would have been
an old Killifer Trenching and Ditching plough! !
Finally, farewell this month to Corporal Auchterlonie,
Private Evans (on discharge), Staff Sergeant Patton on temporary
detachment to BATUS, Lance Corporals Snowden and Coney,
