drick and Walsh to ODA, and to Private Rohacz on CASEVAC.
Congratulations to Lance Corporal Softley on promotion*
and to Sergeant and Mrs Cork on the birth of a daughter
Sarah, and a warm welcome to Lance Corporal Clark ACC and
the families of Lance Corporal Lewis and Private Clark.
STORES SUB-DEPOT DULMEN
DULMEN retains its attraction for visitors and over the past
month we have again had more than our fair share. The main
attraction was the visit by the Defence and External Affairs
Sub-Committee, a party of nine Members of Parliament, A
visit of such importance clearly required much rehearsal, in fact
at one stage we were rehearsing for the rehearsals! A particularly
delicate point was the matter of rain protection, golfing umbrellas
were available—but what colour? Luckily the Corps colours
came to the rescue and the correct balance of blues and reds
were available to avoid political bias!
A party rapidly merging from obscurity is the Dulmen Golf
Club. They gave a very creditable performance in the 15 COD
Spring meeting recently and returned with a fair share of the
spoils. Worthy of mention were Captain Ellis, Staff Sergeant
Miller, Sergeant Thacker and Lance Corporal Christian, The
emergence, is no doubt due, in part, to the screening on German
television of the US Masters Tournament. To equate Dulmen's
six"hole pitch and putt to Augusta, Georgia, would be frivolous,
but they do have one thing in common—water. Whereas in
Augusta it is in the form of a picturesque lake, in Dulmen it is
better described as a swamp. Undeterred, however, the stout-
hearted lads don their wellies and squelch off to the first tee!
The frantic flailers of the hockey team are also performing
with distinction. They have just won the DOS Hockey Cup,
beating arch rivals Viersen by three nil in the final. Congratula-
tions are due to Sergeant Pittaway, Corporal Nickson and
Private Walsh for selection for the Corps, as was the seemingly
permanent fixture of the side—Staff Sergeant D'Souza,
Another very sweet victory over Viersen was by the Dulmen
rugby team. This season they have finally shaken off the
* music-hall joke' tag and climaxed the season with a good
six to four victory in a good blood and thunder match which is
almost a tradition when these sides meet. It has been a good
season with a roughly equal number of wins and defeats, In
the finest traditions of the Corps we are looking up the part
number to demand a good (if slightly used) back row to start
next season—Any offers?
In the April edition we attributed the photographs on page
340 incorrectly—they were in fact taken by Staff Sergeant
White.

ORDNANCE BRANCH
THE correspondent for the last two years has left
us for the rural pastures of Salop to see out his
declining years; before he left he was heard
muttering something about becoming another
Jimmy Saville—a sort of 'Chas'l fix i t ' This
brought an immediate rendition of 'A Spoonful
of Sugar' from the PA.
From the first of April there has appeared a
new crop of appointment titles within the branch
making nearly everyone SO something or other. There is a debate
on at the moment as to what to call S02 (Maint) on exercise
when he is in charge of POL, it has been suggested SO (Blue),
any advances?
The branch is at present enjoying a period of relative calm
with no exercises to enjoy. Everyone is catching up on missed
leave with Major Stuart Rowsell taking most of the leave every-
body else has missed. Staff Sergeant Rogers took his leave but
wasn't sure? so now has an overdraft
On the sporting side we are still running, jumping and
hitting, achieving moderate success and just failing to take the
Commander's Cup.
A hearty welcome is extended to the new ADOS (or is it
SOI?) Lieutenant Colonel Alan Knipe and his wife Julie, we
hope their stay will be a pleasant one.
Congratulations to W/Private Helen Twidale who is now
W/Corporal Twidale, it's surprising what you get in Ops!
There is absolutely no truth in the rumour that Lance Corporal
Paddy Keating has been seen walking about with his trousers
at half mast!
Staff Sergeant Jim Gleeson has been Medevac to the UK
to undergo a series of tests, we wish him a successful out-
come and a speedy return.
STAFF CLERKS
GSO 1/2. Sergeant Alan Buckwell, Corporal ' Scouse' Hayes
and Lance Corporal Jim Shanks, our men in SD2 are full of
smiles now that the restructuring side of the branch has been
completed and passed on to the other branches of the Head-
quarters. They are wallowing in the fact that they now have
their heads above water again, though not according to Alan!
The G Branch sponsored Church Sunday went off very
well with Sergeants Alan Buckwell (not him again) and Fred
Laycock doing the job of Sidesmen admirably. The rest of
G were in very good voice and judging from the noise some of
them made we now know that ' crows' are not only black
feathered! W/Lance Corporal Vannessa Dike had a double
celebration this month. Firstly, her film was screened at the
SKC, though rumour has it that most of the audience fell
asleep! Secondly, she was twenty one for the very first time.
Lance Corporal * Taff' Cowman and Private John

couldn't afford the traditional 'key of the door so they gave
her a real one wrapped in a box of shredded waste. John was
also feeling chuffed with himself, scoring six goals in the
Commander's Cup five-a-side soccer, thus helping G 'branch to
win. Well done.
G TRGiEPS. We have at last said farewell to Corporal
(now Acting Sergeant) Jed Stone. He has moved from G
Training here to the corresponding branch at Headquarters
BAOR, so we have by no means lost contact with him com-
pletely. We have it on very good authority that * rumour
control' is now well and truly established in that Head-
quarters.
To mark Herr Stone's departure members of the branch,
accompanied by the Assistant Supervising Officer, WOl Allan
Robinson, 1 decided to sample the delights offered by ' Downtown
Bielefeld. The evening started calmly enough in a local
Gastatte with all concerned downing half-litres of ale as
though it had gone out of fashion. However, events moved
swiftly from thereon and the evening culminated in one of the
more dubious establishments that exist in the Stadt Apart
from the action taking place on stage, the other attraction of
note could be observed in the form of Jed fast asleep in a
corner, where he remained for some three hours! Anyway, all
who lasted the pace thoroughly enjoyed themselves and a good
night was had by all.
By the time these notes are published we will have said
farewell to Corporal J. Arthur Lehmann who will have moved
to G Air, We congratulate him on his substantive promotion
and would like to thank him for all the hard work done for
this branch, both in the office and out on the sports field. In
his place we welcome Lance Corporal Mick Ford who has
moved up into daylight from the depths of the R and D.
Corporal Alan Morris scored the two goals which won G
Branch the Commander's Cup five-a-side soccer competition;
Private Brian Marsden spends most weekends playing golf while
young Lance Corporal Bill Laight is now counting the days
until he and W/Corporal Kathy Earlie are married in Sep-
tember, Welcome to the branch Corporal and Mrs Charlie
Bowden.
Congratulations to Lance Corporal Bill Cox on passing
an RPC2 course; we wish him well when he takes his RPCl
next month.
AQ Coord have said farewell to WOl Mac McGill and
his wife Margaret (who will be sadly missed in the Super-
vising Office), en route for a tour in Brunei. In Mac's place
we welcome WOl Mike Newman after a twelve month tour
with UNFICYP, He has already settled down in G Wing of
the Sergeants Mess!
Other postings in are Privates Stuart MacDonald and
Tony Mackey. We wish them a pleasant tour in Bielefeld.
