STORES SECTION 57 STATION WORKSHOP
SINCE our last notes we have been restructured and now have
new masters in Soest. We are all for keeping up with the
times but wish that kit would not move around. Our two mili-
tary staff are working away keeping the Workshop at bay most
of the time.
Sergeant Arthur Armour recently completed his
provision
1
course and achieved nothing less than a grade of 'A. Well done
Arthur,
The boss is not old any more, after a long campaign of try-
ing to sort out a mistake made by himself many years ago. He
finds himself with a proper and an official birthday now. May-
he some people could be envious. He says it feels good to be
young again, not young enough to do the under forty fit to fight
test but wonders at what age he may take up the DGOS
Challenge?
Mrs Bonny Wilkins our women's libber is now looking for a
second car after successfully passing her German driving test.
h was a bit touch and go at times and she wondered if it was all
worthwhile. The family car is no longer referred to as our car
but MINE. Women's Lib!
Brigadier Steele and CRAOC Corps Troops West, Lieutenant
Colonel Morton. Secondly Warrant Officer One Durrant from
Bicester and Warrant Officer One
Jones from Malvern who were
l
surprised at our packaging expertise.* Since their departure
Corporal O'Rourke has been practicing with his heat sealer and
has managed to seal himself into his Backloading Bay, he now
awaits instructions as to how to get out.
Sporting abilities have been well tested with Private Scouse
Cannel at Regimental hockey. Privates Hesling, Laydon and
Perkins at football and at Workshop level the hockey team, sup-
ported by star players Privates Cannell and Fennell, won the
Garrison Hockey Shield. PT has raised its head again and has
met with groans from our junior members, especially
when
1
informed * they will pass the tesf twice a month.
We say 'Aufwiedersehen' to Privates Ted Heath and Steve
Du Feu, and Private Ian Bates to civilian life. We welcome
Private Peter Boyce, and congratulate Privates 'Skippy' Newman,
and 'Beany' Palmer on their forthcoming marriages.
Our
admiration goes to Private Mick Pays who did the double,
getting married and arriving here all within two weeks.
Other hardworking members of the Unit, who have
reviously gained no mention, are Private John Grice, 53 Battery
ection's hard working clerk, Private Pete Hockaday, 11 Battery^s
hardworking clerk who sometimes moonlights on Headquarters
Section, Private 'Ginge' Straw down in Headquarters Section
Bins and Private Steve Cobb who may be found in the main
storage area by uttering the phrase " I don't believe it," We close
this month by wishing Private Mick Perkins a speedy recovery
from injuries in hospital, and hope he will be able to drag him-
self away from his nurses soon.
Corps Troops (West)
HEADQUARTERS RAOC
RESTRUCTURING is fast approaching Corps Troops (West)
and gaining in importance. By the time this contribution is
published the organisation will have been considerably reduced
by the transfer to other Formation Ord Reps. Headquarters
RAOC will remain in being until responsibility for Ordnance
support to units of the Artillery Division has been transferred
to CRAOC Corps Troops (now CRAOC Corps Troops (Central)).
The CRAOC, Lieutenant Colonel Morton* is the first Head-
quarters Officer to leave BAOR for his new job as OC OSU
Catterick. Major Geoff Hall becomes OC ASU Dortmund and
moves sideways within the same building. Major Jack Dempsey
remains until disbandment of Headquarters RAOC is com-
pleted supported by a reduced military and civilian staff which
will gradually disperse as responsibilities are reduced.
We recently 'lunched out' Majors Fred Curtis and Frank
Beaumont. Fred Curtis has retired and leaves us shortly to start
putting into practise in his own home all the crafts he has
learned on his ' bricks and mortar' course. We wish him well
in civilian life. Frank Beaumont leaves us on restructuring to
join 3 Armoured Division, not long before he too departs for
civilian life.
50 MISSILE REGIMENT WORKSHOP STORES SECTION
BY way of introduction: The Boss is WOl J. Gauld, whom it is
rumoured was in the '48 uprising or was it the 1948 North of
Scotland TT Championships?
Our supply clerks are Staff Sergeant T. Burke T ably assisted
by Corporal John Blacker, Lance Corporal Paul Trent and
Private Roger Lister. Supply specialists ( Sergeant D, Learmonth,
Corporal Barry Jones and Private John Sooty * Sutton and last
but not least Lance Corporal Charlie Walker MT NCO and
part time supply specialist. Small in numbers we may be but
loaded with diverse talents.
Lister—Regimental rugby 1st XV, Sutton — Regimental
hockey 1st XI and Sergeant Learmonth a golfer of undisclosed
handicap, A duo of thespians in the shape of Staff Burke and
Corporal Blacker. Corporal Blacker's second string is as a mem-
ber of the Regiment's Quiz team (currently doing well on the air
waves of BFBS). The boss is so disenchanted with the standard
of the local table tennis talent that he has threatened to come
out of retirement, Lance Corporal Trent can be seen pounding
along in preparation for the forthcoming BE tests and oiling his
bat in readiness for the cricket season.

22 AIR DEFENCE REGIMENT WORKSHOP
THINGS are now heating up for our annual * Holiday * in the
Hebrides. The first participants being 42 Battery Section, Sergeant
Mick Stewart, Corporal Collin Metcalfe, Private Geordie Laydon
and Private Hodge Hodkinson, will lead the way.
Our visitors this month have come from all comers of the
world. Firstly a farewell visit from our local Commander,
Ordnance Services Berlin
PRIDE of place in our notes goes to the Unit small bore
shooting team, pictured with a collection of trophies won
during the winter season.
In February they won the Berlin Minor Unit League
Trophy; Staff Sergeants Geoff Hoyland and Keith Proctor also
winning the Berlin Individual and runners up trophies
respectively.
Later that month the team travelled to Sennelager for
the RAOC BAOR match and were runners up to 1 Combat
Supplies Battalion.
In March the team again travelled to Sennelager for the
BAOR Minor Units Championship and again came away with
the runners up trophies, being beaten by 37 Rhine Workshop
who have won the competition four times in the last five
years.
