EVENT
FOLLOWLNG the visit by The Queen to the Corps at Bicester
on 16th May, the Representative Colonel Commandant Major
General J. T. Stanyer, CBE, has received the letter reproduced
below from Her Majesty's Private Secretary;—
/ am commanded by The Queen to write to thank you for
entertaining her yesterday at Bicester on the occasion of the two
important anniversaries—her own as Colonel-in-Chief, and the
Sixtieth Anniversary of the amalgamation. More importantly, I
am to tell you how very much the Colonel-in-Chief enjoyed
her day with the RAOC and how interested she was in all that
you were able to show her, and say to her about the Corps'
functions.
The day was well designed to fulfil the objectives
originally suggested in Mike Callan's letter written in July last
year, "to see her Corps at work and have the opportunity to
meet a cross section of her officers and soldiers, some families,
and civilians" It was obvious from the many contacts with
all ranks and families that the Corps is in very good heart and
Her Majesty came away delighted to have this fact confirmed by
her own observations.
The souvenirs of the two anniversaries are clearly going
to be very much in use. Her Majesty renews her thanks to
the Corps for these charming souvenirs and has already taken
them away to her sitting-room at Buckingham Palace.
The Queen has also told me to thank you for entertaining
her so hospitably at lunch. To her thanks I would like to add
the thanks of all those in attendance.
The souvenirs referred to were a pair of matching paper-
weights which Major General Stanyer presented to The Queen
after lunch in the Ambrosden Officers Mess " in the hope," as he
said at the time, M that Your Majesty might be reminded of our
loyalty and the affection in which we hold you/'
