On the incoming side we welcome Staff Sergeant Lee Hayter
torn Colchester (via Zimbabwe) and Private Pete Benson from
Bielefeld.
The new Ops Room was officially opened by cracking a
lv*'k u of Pi Is o n tn - e hotline telephone and a barbecue excel-
J \ organised by WOl Dave Williams. Later that day the
^ u1 '- was declared fully operational although the same could
n Vi be said of the personnel therein who in the main had lost
t0 lal control of their actions.
SATO David Hatton was busy ail spring in the direction of
a play called Habeus Corpus and the curtain rose with a new
star in the shape of the AEO, Major Harry Vaughan—with and
without his trousers!
Congratulations go to Captain Geoff Cox in taking silvers
at the Rhine Army Parachute Association Championships last
tr.fn'h and to Corporal Mai Vale for passing with a distinction

hinally a mention of Linda our new AFG3622 expert typist
on setting the record of lasting almost three days before she
cracked. She is now as mad as the rest of us.
Management Services Unit BAOR
THE majority of the unit is at present enjoying itself on leave,
and as a consequence the office tends to echo a bit.
The main news this month is of a series of semi-disasters
,:i nave hit members of the unit; SSM Clive Kingston fell and
nni-'shed up with a broken right shoulder and left wrist. Need-
less to say,our typist Linda Clayton has not noticed any difference
in his standard of handwriting. On a quiet Sunday morning
those who live in White City woke up to find their cellars
flooded, causing varying degrees of damage. SSM John Dawson
had all his MFO packed and ready for collection, but it managed
to escape quite lightly; SSM Jim McLarty found he had a
very fashionable poolside bar, until it floated and the area was
covered with wet carpets. It all helps to pass the time on a wet
~v: •ntng!
The OC, Major David Rowley, found it all too much and
took his family to France to recuperate; not sure which of his
vehicle fleet he used, but UK authorities will love him at £70
a time.
I came back from leave to find a strange face hiding down-
stairs, which turned out to be a refugee from TCP, Major Reg
King with something to do with computer systems for Supply
Depots. Apparently last week he had people working out bio-
rhythms; it must have some effect on food consumption.
We welcome Mrs Adamson and family to Viersen and hope
: y enjoy their stay, saying farewell to Mrs Dawson and family
A':.o leave John to struggle along in the Mess. Hope that this
move will not again result in letters to the Cabinet over missing
MFO boxes.
Ordnance Depot Antwerp
ONCE again it is time to put pen to paper—just so readers know
the Depot is still here. Any Americanism in the writing and
spelling isn't really because I've just come back from the
States!
We have welcomed into the Corps Private Burns, who has
been on probation with us from RCT, In true Staff Clerk fashion
he's asking about promotion already. Major John Hortop had
the pleasure of enlisting his eldest son, Paul, into the Corps.
Major Hortop has now left us for sunny Chilwell.
Like everybody else, it's the silly season where everyone goes
on leave at the same time. We now see who the real workers
are. Mind you the CO has taken plenty of books to Austria,
could it be his recent war wound is playing him up. I thought
rugby was the only contact sport, or is it a new ruling!
Our sailors took part in the RAOC/RAPC Offshore Regatta
at Kiel The team of Staff Sergeant Frank Kirkman (Captain),
Staff Sergeant Mick Huggins (R Signals and Navigator), Sergeant
John Tait, Corporal Dave Stuthridge and Lance Corporal Alec
Gurmin did quite well. They obtained a first in the Skipper
35, second in the RAOC and fourth place overall. Mrs Fay
Kirkman took it easy on the Committee Boat—that's what Frank
said. In a recent local dinghy regatta Dave Stuthridge and Fay
Kirkman came first in the four hundred and twenty class. Con-
grats to all.
Our footballers have so far won one, lost nil, drawn nil—
played one. The rugby team is unbeaten—perhaps we should
play a game or two. Our cricketers are having mixed blessings,
but perhaps they will improve as the season gets olden And as
for golf—their triumphs know no bounds.
Congratulations are in order: to W 2 Dave Barraclough
on his promotion to Acting WOL Unfortunately, Dave has
now departed for our detachment in BAOR. Corporal Giles on
promotion to Sergeant, and Lance Corporal Stuthridge to
Corporal.
The Depot has had many comings and goings so to all that
have left this haven of rest, bon voyage and good luck. To those
that have arrived welcome. We have bade a fond farewell to
Major Charles Bayley and we welcome Major Peter O'Brien.
Congratulations go to Lance Corporal and Mrs TafT Davies
on the birth of their daughter Emma Louise, and also to Lance
Corporal and Mrs Young on the birth of their son Darren
Scott.
Headquarters British Forces Antwerp
CORPORAL NELSON and family have just returned from two
weeks In Scotland and a third week in Belgium, some well earned
leive. On Sunday 9th August they had their son Terence Stuart
b - ^tised in the Garrison Chruch, to keep things in the Corps
-: might say) Godfather to Baby Terence was Sergeant Terence
Stuart Leefarr (serving in Munster).
Lance Corporal Sambrook is currently enjoying some
continuation training under that ' tough team' in Ord Depot
Antwerp training wing.
In the meantime we have projects, high ranking visitors and
our 1982 Queens Birthday Parade to work on (incidentally
next year is our thirtieth anniversary) so watch this space.
Some good news, our DAA and QMG Major Tweedie
Brown gets our warmest congratulations, Rosemary gave birth to
* ' "by girl at RAF Wegberg recently, best wishes to you both.
Just to prove that we do encourage RAOC personnel to work
;
p our headquarters we must announce that Captain Peter
Shute will become our new Staff Officer, he is due to arrive
\ready for work—we hope) on 2nd November—we wish him
well.
