ment Officer, and Lieutenant Mike Murphy to Cyprus as Ad-
jutant to the CRAOC.
The weekend 13th/14th May was celebrated as a combined
St Barbara and St Elegius Regimental weekend.
On the
Saturday we held the inter-departmental athletics competition.
7;ie combined team from Regimental Wing and ACA won
the team prize and Corporal ( Dunne seemed to win most of the
medals and of course was champion athlete/ The tug-of-war
was won by the combined DSM/RPC team who were very
well drilled. The Commander's lady, Mrs Tina Macdonald,
kindly presented the prizes.
The sports were followed by social evenings in both the
Officers and Sergeants Messes and the Junior Ranks held a disco.
On the Sunday a Church Parade was held in the Civilian
Canteen
and representatives from RHA and REME joined us to
:
c; ebrate their Saints Days. The Band of the South Notts
Hussars (Yeomanry) RHA (TAVR) played during the service
and at the following march past. The Deputy Chaplain General,
Rev D. B. Dougall conducted the service and the Garrison
Commander, Brigadier Iain Macdonald took the salute.
Luncheon parties followed the parade in the Officers and
Sergeants Messes and in the Pedro Club. AJtogether a very
pleasant social weekend* but what a pity the weather could not
have been a little better,
Welcome to Lieutenant Colonel Bill Clay den who has now
taken over the * reins ' as Chief Administrative Officer (or should
i"> be * handlebars,' as he is to be seen cycling round the depot).
Central Ordnance Depot Donnington
FOR those who have served in COD Donnington it will be of
interest to learn that the Fair Value re-orgahisation in preparation
for taking in the COD Chilwell stores is now gaining momentum.
The internal re-shuffle of stores has seen Building B6 build up
and the empty APR is filling up rapidly with stores from B4
and B5. Building Bl is practically empty, the wheeled equip-
ments having been transferred to Tern Hill for temporary
ycrage to allow for Bl to be equipped with APR. Captain
«*nhur Brown and his team are doing a methodical stripping
Job in Building B2 of the old binning ready for the erection
°f the new which is going in to allow for more storage. There
are fortnightly meetings chaired by the SSO, Colonel Thornton,
w
ith alMine managers, to update everyone on progress so far, and
plan ahead; the object being to ensure that everyone is fully
aware of what is going on, and what is required of them. When
the SSO is smiling we know that targets are being met; he smiles
a lot.
Having reached the end of the season for hockey, rugby,
football and basketball it can be said we have done well,
particularly in football and basketball, both sports having our
very energetic and enthusiastic Staff Sergeant Bede Welsh in-
volved.
The hockey team, under Major Graham Browning, have
shown great enthusiasm and although not having had great
success in their friendly games, won The Blackdown Cup in the
Bari Cup competition. I'm sure they are in for a successful
next season as, in his true fashion, Major Browning is already
working on fixtures,
The basketball learn were runners-up in the West Midland/
Wales District Army Cup, and runners-up in the Shropshire
Basketball League II. Staff Sergeant Welsh won the Shrop-
shire Weekly Newspapers Cup for the highest scorer in Division
II with two hundred and nineteen points.
Your correspondent, being football officer, is delighted to
report the success in that field being:—Winners Army Minor
Units Cup—-West Midland/Wales District; Runners-up—Army
(UK) Minor Units Cup; Runners-up—West Midland Inter-
Service League Cup Competition ; Winners—West Midland Inter-
Service League—Junior Division.
The Army (UK) Minor Units final was played at the
Aldershot Stadium in far from good conditions, it having rained
for thirty hours practically non-stop. We played the Depot
Queen's Division, the result being one nil to them, and we
scored it for them. It was a hard fought game, and the DGOS,
as Vice-Chairman Army Football Association watched the match
and presented the trophies. The photograph below shows
Corporal Morton receiving the runner-up cup from the DGOS.

Runners-up Cup from the DCOS.
Major Eddie Jennings and his wife Chris left us for BAOR
on the 1st May, They will be sadly missed, and we wish them
well. Eddie has certainly left a ' big hole * to fill both as QM
and in Small Bore shooting. While I write this, his relief Captain
Ron Miller, is attending the QM Course at Blackdown and on
his return we will no doubt get the 'new broom' treatment
Whilst in the regimental area, our new RSM Tony Halls is now
in the Tara's job, and RSM Ken S^ter is doing various pre-
release courses prior to leaving the Army.
Other arrivals and departures are: RSM Halls, Sergeant
Tibbs; Corporals White, Charles, Woodhouse, Thorburn and
Prince; Lance Corporals Taylor and Vale; Privates Howson*
Goatcher, Edwards, Hazell, Conlon, Graven, Johnson, Metcalfe,
Talbot and Walsh.
Corporal McCallin to Northern Ireland and Private Ranee to
BAOR; WOl Robinson and Staff Sergeant Hearn on discharge.
Congratulations on promotion to Corporal Frane and Lance
Corporal Hogg.
