CORPS TROOPS ORDNANCE
COMPANY
VYE have just undergone one of the more traumatic of military
experiences, name changing. On 1st April 1978, 1 OFF was
renamed I (BR) Corps Troops Ordnance Company. Like most
good military establishments no-one quite knows why we have
changed our name. However, we have realised that it involves
the same work with less people. It does mean that perhaps
my debts will not catch up with me for another month or so.
We celebrated the disbandment of our name in the middle
of March with an exercise, i took a sample analysis of some of
the comments. W 2 Brown (ten years experience in a Static
Unit) " Well exercises don't seem to be that bad." Sergeant
Nowak (Ex-Para, endless experience) " This is what it's all
about, it's your duty as a soldier." Private Trew in reply to
W02 Brown (limited experience) " Yes but some of us have to
stay awake on exercise."
Throughout March both our hockey and soccer teams have
been endeavouring. The hockey team endeavoured successfully
with two consecutive wins. The soccer team has been effort-
lessly losing to all comers. Unfortunately the team has suffered
from a long line of transfers: Private Wells to COD Chilwell
for DM 25, Lance Corporal Woodrow to BATUS for D M 20,
Private Askew to BATUS for DM 6 and Lance Corporal Warden
to 154 FAD—DM 7.
However* Sergeant Hampson is still in negotiations hoping
that next year we will have a football team.
We would like to welcome Lance Corporals Ballard, Caffrey,
Farren. Foreman, King and Robinson, Privates Lister, McKie
and Willis.
Farewells go to Sergeant Coulbeck, Corporals Polland and
Thorpe, Lance Corporals Scanlan and Perrolt RE ME, Privates
Johnstone, Wearing and Wells.
Congratulations to the following on promotion: Sergeant
Balltnger, Corporals Polland and Warden,
Congratulations to the following for other reasons: Mushy,
Unit cat, transferred RE ME to PC and A ; Lance Corporal
?errott for achieving a new way of destroying Leyland tyres
jnd the MT Section for discovering twenty six hours in the day
prior to PRE.
A sponsored walk in aid of the Pat Seed Cancer Appeal
was recently organised by Haig Primary School. Among those
participating was our young athletic Lance Corporal Eric Davis
and the 'slightly' older, but nevertheless agile, Sally Crawford,
the wife of our Admin Officer. They completed thirty and

ALL quiet at present so we are getting all the ' Panic Type'
jobs done prior to the coming Exercise period.
The ' Op Banner* lads are all well and judging by reports
and telephone messages the tour is quiet, let's hope it stays the
same and they all return to their families safely. Rumour has
it that ' Bill Ryan has found love at last'
Whilst the skipper is away, our 'Acting O C Mrs Mac-
Lennox keeps her eye on us to ensure no slacking, pity we can't
get her on the duty list says * Q.'
We say farewell to Bob Green this month. Bob is one of
those * Man for all seasons' which any small unit like ours needs.
No job too much trouble and always done well. Bon voyage
Bob you're always welcome here.
Jeff Lord came and went again. Swears the Recruiting
Officer said " Six weeks work—good pay—and forty six weeks
leave."
Mick Wilson and Alan Mayoh have played for the Corps
at soccer—won one and lost two this time. Both are playing
well and should be regulars for some years. " Mickey * even
gave Bobby Charlton his autograph at the Rothmans finals.

SPRING has finally arrived in Detmold. The signs are definite,
the snow is less persistent and Private George Turnbull's per-
fumed letters have started to blossom. We have finally disposed
of the Sioux, all that remains, apart from a lot of spares at Dis-
posals Organisation Mark Hamm, are of course the memories
of a helicopter built for a more leisurely age,
On the sporting front Sergeants Frank O'Brien, Mike
Mays and Corporals Dave Kelly and Ray Bailie have been
practising very hard for the RAOC Spring Golf meeting at
Bruggen. Frank, we are told, has finally managed a twenty
four handicap, so Bruggen beware!
Congratulations are in order to Corporals Bren Reppe and
Ivan Sangster on passing their BI Technical Clerks upgrading
course at Black down. Notwithstanding the handicap of having
to use manual keyboards,
Conductor Chuck Roberts is the proud owner of a gleam-
ing new Audi 80 LS. It was a dismal rainy day when he went
to collect it at Moenchengladbach, armed with sheets of poly-
thene to preserve the paintwork.
In conclusion, we say farewell to Sergeant Willie Clydesdale,
posted down the road to 4 ADOC. Also to Corporal Ivan
