WO I WHITBY died in the Kent and Canterbury Hospital of a
heart attack aged forty nine.
He joined the Corps in 1946 as a boy soldier and saw
service in the Middle East and in West Africa. During the
Malayan emergency he was employed on Bomb Disposal duties
and in the mid sixties was with 154 FAD at Wulfen.
WO I Whitby will be sadly missed by his many friends in
the Corps, both serving and retired,
BIRTH
GUNSON.—On 2nd June 1978, at British Military Hospital,
Rinteln, to Marg and Nelson Gunson, a daughter, Claire Julia
Margaret, A sister for Stuart and Peter.

MARRIAGE
J O N E S ^ M c D O N A L D — On 24th June 1978, at our Lady of the
Forrest Church, Forrest Row, Sussex, the marriage took place
between Anthony Peter, only son of Mr and Mrs A. McDonald
of 23 Post Horn Close, Forrest Row, to Susan Mary, younger
daughter of Major and Mrs Maidwyn Jones of 15 Central Ord-
nance Depot, Dulmen, BFPO 44.

COOK.—On 7th July 1978, in Germany, Staff Sergeant J. Cook.
WHITBY.—On the 19th. January 1978, ex-WOl E. R. Whitby.

It is regretted that, due to an industrial
dispute at the printers of the Advertising
Supplement, The Gazette this month may be
reduced to thirty two instead of its usual
I forty pages.
1978
THE SSAFA Christmas Market 1978 is to be held at Chelsea
Barracks on Wednesday, 22nd November. Once again, the
Corps has been asked to run the Tombola Stall which has
met with such success in previous years.
The DGOS has written to the Senior Officers of all the
Corps installations in the UK to ask for their support, and a
letter from Mrs Callan has been sent to many Corps wives.
If readers who are now retired, or are serving outside
the Corps, would like to make monetary contributions or gifts
to the Stall, these would be gratefully received. The Corps
Sub-Committee for the Market would be delighted with any
gift but would particularly appreciate chocolates, cigarettes,
wines, packed biscuits, and toiletries.
Contributions of all kinds are requested by 23rd October
at the latest
Cash gifts should be addressed to Mrs M. Callan, c / o

MEMBERS of the Fellowship held their annual functions on
3rd and 4th June in Hampshire. These included a dinner, in
HMS Dryad at Southwick and the annual service in Portsmouth
Cathedral followed by a reception,
Members from Canada,
Greece, Australia and the Netherlands were among those
present.
Subsequently a party went to Normandy to visit Arro-
manches. Membership continues to build up. Forms are
obtainable from the Hon Membership Secretary, St John's
Cottage, Shedfield, Nr Southampton.
DUNKIRK
MR WALTER LORD is writing a book about Dunkirk and
would like to get in touch with Corps personnel who participated
at that stirring time. If any readers can help, he would greatly
