Transcription TRAVERS CLARKE ATHLETICS 1978
THE 47th Annual Meeting of the Travers Clarke Athletics was
held at the Military Stadium, Queens Avenue, Aldershot
Entries, although down on last year, consisted of ten teams
from RAOC Units throughout the UK and some sixty in-
dividuals, all eager to compete for the superb collection of
trophies dating back to the early twenties. The team trophies
were originally presented by Lieutenant General Sir Travers
Clarke, who was Quarter-Master-General from 1919 to 1923 and
was very closely associated with our Corps.
Even though the weather was unkind on the second day
a new Corps record was gained for the two thousand metre
steeplechase by Private Philips of the Ordnance Squadron of the
Commando Logistic Regiment.
The Representative Colonel Commandant, Major General
Stanyer, presented the trophies to the winners and runners-up
in true Olympic style.
The meeting resulted in a close finish with three Units
being possible overall winners until the final stages. Victory
in the final event ensured that Training Battalion and Depot
wen the Sports Cup with fifty two points. The Track Events
Cup went to CAD Kineton with thirty one points and the Field
Events Cup to 16 Battalion Bicester with thirty four points.
The Victor Ludorum was won by Corporal Blay of 16
Battalion who earlier in the year achieved a Corps record of
12.85 metres for the shot whilst competing for the Army against
