and Reconciliation Section, Mr Foster also won ' Best in the
Show* with three cooking apples.

latter from the Training Battalion and Depot. Also recently
posted in is Corporal Geoff Fairclough from Ashchurch.
Congratulations are due this month on the award of his majority
to the former Captain John Kitwood. W 2 Dave Francis takes
aver the hot seat he left vacant until Mid-November. Fond

VEHICLE DIVISION
WITH the leave season in full swing, life in Vehicle Division has
been relatively quiet In MT Stores Provision Branch however
a great deal of activity both mental and physical has been
observed in the Military Cell. It is all, so they claim, in
preparation for their attacks on the RAF Luffenham Walk,
the Robin Hood Half Marathon, and the Lichfield International
Medal Walk. Doubters, however, suggest that they are either
—actising an open air form of ' hide and seek ' with Mrs Marion
.ench, who has volunteered to show them the way in the RAF
Luffenham Walk, or that the seemingly organised training
periods are a clever way of ensuring an early retreat from work.
We wish them every success!
Major Ken Mortimer recently took a break from the
rigours of provisioning 'A' Vehicle Spares and spent a week
at Cambridge University. What he was studying whilst there
is being kept a closely guarded secret.
In Vehicle Branch the usual air of calm pervades, only inter-
rupted by the excitement generated amongst the lady members
'• •* the engagement of Miss Sandra Whittlesey to Mr Peter
Doughty. We offer them our heartiest congratulations and
wish them every happiness in the future.
Lieutenant Colonel Dai Davies has recently departed for
some well earned leave (Did I get it right Colonel?), and Cap-
tain Airdrie has been taking another form of rest and recuperation
in RAF Nocton Hall where he has had a bone in his foot over-
hauled. We wish him a speedy recovery, partly on behalf of
the wines member who is complaining of dropping profit margins
and partly because he now has no valid excuse for hooking, he is
needed by the golf team.
Finally, our congratulations go to Staff Sergeant and Mrs
Graham Chapman on the birth of a son.
On page 221 is a drawing from life (Life?) of Major David
Williams recently departed to Antwerp, by Mr John Dargavel,
VCSM of 38 Central Workshop RE ME.
Training Centre
SCHOOL OF ORDNANCE
WE open our notes in this case with sad
news. The death of Lieutenant Colonel
Peter Goodwin came as a shock to the
whole School, and he will be sadly missed
by everyone. A tribute to Peter, a Retired
Officer with the School, appears on
page 208.
Captain Peter Claughton is in Den-
mark (poor fellow!) on Exercise Amber Express. Rumour has
it that he only went to avoid the Commander's challenge to
officers. Brigadier Thornton thought that the Officers of the
Training Centre ought to have a race into the woods, pick
up some burdens and race back. The School entered a staff
team and 97 Ord Officers course also entered. Despite valiant
efforts neither of our teams won, and rumours that they stopped
for a beer halfway round are still being denied.
Our Officers Mess boat trip was a great success.
The
scenery of the Thames Valley was lovely, the river flowed peace-
fully and the wine forcefully. The evening was complemented
by good food, dancing and good company.
Since then we have had a Mess Casino Night where the
true skills of Lieutenant Colonel Bradley, Major Ansel (import
licence pending) and Reggie von Zugbach de Sugg came well
to the fore.
Colonel C. B. Hopkinson, Commandant of the School of Ordnance
is shown presenting the Diploma to Major Carroll Mapp of the
Barbados Defence
Force on completion
of
the
recent
Commonwealth
and
Foreign
Ordnance
Officers
Course.
A buffet luncheon was hold in the School of Ordnance Officers
Mess for all students and instructors which was both an enjoyable
and sad occasion.
Staff Sergeant Ron Hughes of Training Aids seems keen to
defend the wearing of track suits at work, despite being told
that PT finishes at 0800 hours and the Commander cannot see
into Training Aids office.
Our Chief Clerk Bob Connelly is worried about indulgence
flights to America at present. " J o b recces in the firms' time"
said one of his admirers, and the other comments about his luck
were unprintable.
This month said farewell to Major Frank Warren off to
Rhine Area on promotion and Corporal Paul Logan off to
Hong Kong (Shame! ! !). We wish them, and their families, the
very best of good fortune in their new posts,
We are also pleased to welcome Major Peter Brice and
family, and hope that they have a happy tour here at the
School.
