THE ladies netball team are having a good run up to their visit
to Mots pur Park for the MODRA sports day on 6th July,
they have won their two most recent games in the Burton and
District League by twenty one to seven against Elford and
sixteen to seven against Willington.
The gentlemen are also entering a football team in the six-a-
side competition at Motspur Park but they are either so good
as to need no preparation or very secretive about their plans
because there is no sign of a training programme.
SSM Ted Anderson has left us to teach his card tricks to
potential work study practitioners at Shrivenham. Mrs Cheryl
McCreadie will meet him there when she makes a second start
on her course in September—she had to withdraw after a
fortnight of her first course when she caught mumps.
There is a weigh-in in continuous progress in the Head-
quarters, some financial donations being extracted from those
whose weight happens to go the wrong way. Just to make
sure we don't all get the slimming craze and fade away com-
pletely, Mrs* Iris Brown has been collecting subscriptions for
the Christmas party for some time now so we should be getting
a better feed than ever this year.
We welcome our new Fire Officer, Mr M. L. Graham and
bid a fond farewell to Mr R. Mitchell.
It is sad to report the death of Mr Wilf Ridgers after a
long illness. Mr Ridgers was Senior Storeman IC Tyre Section.
Our condolences to Mrs Ridgers.

Major General Stanyer visits Jurby Camp in the Isle of Man.
Left to right: Major Woodford, General Stanyer, Brigadier Smith,
Lieutenant Eonney and Captain Case.
The important part played by Staff Sergeant John Bennett
should not go unrecorded, nor that of our other PS1, Sergeant
Dave Belshaw, who has the distinction of owning the only
Pentax with a blank firing attachment.

FOR our Annual Training this year we were hosted by Major
C. Mclnnes and his Staff at 86 Supply Depot Dortmund.
Whilst the weather was none too good, the warmth of our
welcome' and the enthusiasm given by all in their instruction
could not have been surpassed.
In the Depot we were gainfully employed in our respective
trades. On issue days it was an early start at 6 am and when our
OC Captain Oliver turned up at that time, one of the Platoon
was heard to remark " the old man is here/' I wonder what he
meant? The Storemen were deployed in the Butchery store
houses and POL sections whilst the clerks went through their
paces in the office. Congratulations to Corporals Badenoch
and Whitcombe (affectionately known as Morecombe and Wise)
and Private Jewell on passing trade list from Bill to B1I,
Besides carrying out the usual routine tasks, we were
fortunate in having visits arranged to the RAOC Bakery at
Bielefeld where we had the luxury of bread straight from the
oven for lunch. Our thanks to the OC of 85 Supply Depot for
making our visit there so interesting and enjoyable.
We also were guests of the Dortmund Kronen Brewery
which incidentally is the second largest brewery in the World.
Here we spent a very pleasant afternoon. Everyone even those
who do not usually drink beer must have relished the local
quality beer. Our final visit was to the Mohnesee made famous
by the epic feats of Guy Gibson VC and the Dambusters.
Alas the time passed by quickly and a thoroughly valuable
and enjoyable camp came to an end when we said auf
wiedersehen to members of 86 Supply Depot.
TAVR
41 RP Company RAOC(V)
OUR annual camp, and first camp since re-roling from 44 Para
OFP, took place in June and turned out to be a good start for
the Unit. The location was Jurby, Isle of Man where the
parish motto is ' Even the inhabitants live elsewhere/ Our
happy campers were mainly newcomers and the programme was
accordingly based on a recruit course.
The senior FSJ, Staff Sergeant Mick O'Meara, had, within
twenty minutes of arriving, secured the largest cloth model
imaginable, well used but easily sufficient to illustrate the deploy-
ment of a RP in reasonable scale.
Each morning the rest of the camp was woken to the
sound of the Unit (save of course Corporal Dusty * it's my back,
Sir' Miller) engaged in the enjoyable pursuit of FT, then to
breakfast except, that is, one morning when we were treated
to the sight of what can only be described as a Watership Down
version of the St Valentine's Day massacre (7 Field Force
what were you doing with all those rabbits?),
The Unit was visited by Major General Stanyer and
Brigadier
Smith on the SMG range and in view of their scores
on 4 having a go * it was fortunate that they were dissuaded
from entering the pool shoot. Other TAVR Units beware of
this hot shot duo!
The favourite exploit of all must have been exercise Dilac
(Celtic for amusing appearance) run by Lieutenant Norman
Bonney, thirty six hours of pleasant walks among beautiful
scenery at night, up there, with all this kit, Sir?') interspersed
with a few light activities and occasional picnics. Well done
Private Steve Rees, C Section Commander, for possessing the
only compass that points to Blackdown.
The finale was the presentation of trophies by Major Mike
Woodford (OC 54 Company): Individual Soldier shared between
Privates Geoff Binks and Les Wickens; Best Recruit easily
won by Private Neil Bailey from 283 PF Platoon; Best Section
Commander went to Lance Corporal Paul The Craven
Cup
f
for the most outstanding section was awarded to ' B Section
and received on their behalf by Private Mick Wyiie. Hearty
congratulations to all the recipients but no less to the rest of
the course for their determination and effort during the fort-
night ; if they arrived as campers they certainly left as soldiers.
