THE Depot has been heavily involved this past month with
Lwo major events in the annual cycle: The Queen's Birthday
Parade and the International Triathlon. Readers with a know-
ledge of ODA will know the importance of the Queen's Birth-
day here in Belgium and although the Parade is sponsored by
Headquarters British Forces, the involvement is almost totally
ODA, save to say that on this occasion, the two staff clerks
from the Headquarters, Corporal Ellis-Rijs and Lance Corporal
Paddy Killeen, were both parading as flag orderlies. The day
went extremely well; both weather, and music, provided by the
Pipes and Drums of 2nd Battalion Scots Guards and the Alamein
Staff Band of 2 RTR T were excellent. Among the guests were
Her Majesty's Ambassador to Belgium and DOS BAOR Brigadier
Crawley,
7th June was the occasion of an International Sports Meet-
ing hosted by ODA here in Emblem, Teams from Germany,
Belgian and Dutch military Units were competing together in
what has become an annual event. The volleyball team from
ODA was unable to match the skill of the other Units, but the
football and shooting competitions were rather more closely
fought- The shooting team of WOl Tarsnane managed to hold
its own against the German entry. Lieutenant Colonel Broome
came first in the CO's shoot, managing to burst more balloons
than the other three commanders, a point which proved to be a
deciding factor in the final placings at the end of the day: for a
change we didn't come last. As is the custom the day came to
an end with a ' banquet' and beer which would normally have
gone on to the small hours, but World Cup Football and
Holland's game that night brought proceedings to an abrupt end
(no doubt this will happen to us again in four years time!).
Recent promotions include Sergeant Skeels and Lance
Corporals Potts, Blount, Bennett and Stephens; Corporal Dave
Thynne suspects that he has gout: Congratulations to all!
Storage Department also reports that their arch-fishermen W02
" Harpoon' Hinds was seen crouching over a nearby static water
tank. Grabbing goldfish? Tickling trout? No, rescuing fluffy
ducklings. A citation is to be sent to the RSPCA!
Fall in the following: WOs2 Maynard and Hubbard,
Corporal Kelly, Lance Corporals Docherty, Footitt, Taylor,
Taylor (407), Smith and Private Sampson.
Fall out the following: W02 Cheetham to Berlin and
Sergeant Boyle to Bracht. Remainder stand fast

ON Saturday 3rd June 3 BAPD celebrated the fifth Anniversary
of the Freedom of the City of Briiggen. A most successful day
was helped by the glorious weather, and we were served well
by the Carnbrai Staff Band of The Royal Tank Regiment and
the Pipes and Drums of 4 RTR.
The Band, Pipes and Drums started the day by marching
through Briiggen before giving a band concert outside the
Rathaus. Meanwhile the Burgermeister, accompanied by the
Commandant, inspected the Quarter Guard, Trie Guard was
commanded by Sergeant Clarke and comprised Corporals
Zycinski and Ingham, Lance Corporals Cook, Scrmltz, Low,
Privates Lee and Richards,
The celebrations continued in the evening with a 'Beating
of Retreat * on the Unit sports field which was seen by over
one thousand military and civilian spectators.
Finally, a
reception was held in the Officers Mess, so ending a day which
has helped to strengthen the already excellent goodwill we
enjoy with the local community.
During a recent visit the DOS BAOR, Brigadier Crawley,
presented DOS Awards 1977/7S for RAOC BAOR Small Bore
Shooting to Sergeant Clarke, Corporal McLelland and Lance
Corporal Joss; Corps (BAOR) Rugby Colours to Corporals
Busuttil and Oliphant—to say nothing of the DGOS Challenge
Certificate to WOl Tavener and Sergeant Davis.
The 'living-in' soldiers of 3 BAPD have just completed
an experimental period when they were required to be fed
entirely with * cotnpo/ The new fifty-man packs contain some
delectable morsels and were devoured with great relish by our
brave * Guinea-pigs.' There have been very few reported
stomach upsets.
The 3 BAPD cricket team, under the watchful eye of
Major Pat Price and Team Captain, Corporal Denis Seaton,
have got off to a flying start. We have progressed through
to the semi-finals of the BAOR Major Units' Rhine Area
Division Knock-out Competition. We won the last game by
two wickets over CPO Moenchengladbach.
Lance Corpora] Ricky Scott, Staff Sergeant Alan Parker
and W02 Graham Du-Prat have had good knocks with the bat.
W02 Gerry Marks. Lance Corporal Ricky Scott, Corporal Dave
Wildmore and Corporal Denis Seaton have been the mainstay
of the bowling. Corporal R. Dare has undertaken the task of
umpiring with a fair degree of enthusiasm and success.

STORES SUB-DEPOT
VIERSEN
THE other day our CO, Lieutenant Colonel Yeats, completed
the attestation of James Pratt, son of our WOl Pratt prior to
joining the Junior Parachute Company in Aldershot. Pictured
is the CO, James and his father.
Our athletes had a good day at the Rhine Athletics Cham-
pionships. Few of them would claim to be gladiators, but wiri
a good team effort they pulled off the Minor Units Champion-
ship in a closely fought competition finishing with forty points
against thirty seven for 21 Army Support Squadron and thirty
four for Stores Sub-Depot Dulmen. Some gladiators we do
have though and special mention is made of RSM Black who
won the shot (eleven metres twenty three centimetres); Corporal
Middleton who won the high jump (one metre sixty centimetres),
Sergeant Spencer who came second in the two hundred metres;
Private Biesty who took second place in the javelin; and the
four by one hundred metre relay team of Sergeants Spencer,
Townsend, Mar-Gerrison and Captain Dexter who won a fine
race against strong opposition and thereby clinched the cham-
pionship. At the prize giving, our stalwarts reckoned they
were giving away an average of at least ten years or so on
the opposition—not a bad show,
Most of our orienteering team have decided, by mutual
consent, that they are improving (though some members main-
tain they are getting progressively worse). Actually they are
not doing too badly considering their small numbers, the quality
of the opposition in the Rhine Area, and the vagaries of this
perplexing pursuit. The rest of the Unit found out just how
perplexing it can be when a Unit orienteering day was held in
