ORDNANCE
COMPANY
YET another quiet month, this is getting quite boring. Mr
Simpson (who still hasn't gone), left us officially two weeks ago,
but keeps appearing every so often. Could it be he doesn't want to
leave us, his excuse is that he only comes back to chat up the
Secretaries! However, he did turn up on SACUR's Crash Out,
now that's loyalty for you.
Rumour has it that the 2IC has friends in high places,
returning from leave the day before the Crash Out. He decided
to go back to England to buy a house only hours before the
move, nice one Mike.
At the moment the Company is beginning to prepare itself
for Exercise Red Claymore, with the unit providing support for
Umpires and neutral organisations. With l O * groups for the
exercise, (comprising of what films to take and will Sergeant
Hope take his video equipment into the field?), it should be a
good time!
On the training side, it will be remembered as the month
of the Annual Personal Weapon Test.
Sergeant Cook and
Corporal Deacon have spent many hours training personnel on
the SLR, SMG and LMG. happily they were rewarded with some
very good scores. Private Mallinson emerged as the star pupil,
unable lo hit a barn door at thirty paces with the SLR, he pro-
duced a complete reversal on the LMG gaining a k marksman'
pass, well done. Corporal Deacon can still be observed wander-
ing along the corridors muttering "that's my boy!"
With the tug-of-war team resting before the start of a
new season, it's the turn of the football team to take the lime-
light Staff Taylor has hung up his boots this season and has
taken over the training/torture side of matters. Many a time
the cry of ** No Kel 1 can't go on " has been heard echoing
around the gym. On the field the fitness training has paid off
with the team chalking up victories against the local Provost
Company, a select team from the 1st Battalion KOSB and a
local German team. The team is playing very well and is looking
forward to a prosperous season, fingers crossed.
Congratulations to Sergeant Kel Taylor on his promotion to
Staff Sergeant, and Staff Sergeant Larry Taylor on his appoint-
ment of W02. Welcome to Corporal Milner and Privates Boyle,
Clegg, Hodson, Rollins and Thomas we wish them all the best
for their stay in Osnabruck.
87 SUPPLY
DEPOT
THE highlight of this month (to some oniy) is the arrival of the
2ICs new Porsche, equipped with every extra imaginable, eg
self emptying outside ashtrays, radar (he's a keen ornithologist)
and an automatic homing device for some of the more romantic
spots of Europe, eg Amsterdam. Hamburg etc.
Jackie (our beloved typist) has already presented the OC
with his first farewell present, which is a draught excluder in
the form of a knitted snake I
Our Marathon team continues to train hard for the big
event in Bielefeld. The excuse that they need to drink a lot of
liquids, because of dehydration on the runs is now heard around
the depot.
Staff Sergeant Enno Olden is so impressed with our new
computer system he has asked to go on a course to enable him

board.
However, the
twenty mark notes ajid
promises of undying
loyalty were to no avail for on his return the OC revealed
nothing. (But keep the lolly rolling in lads).
Our unit football team under the management of Sergeant
Brian Robertson have played a number of pre season friendlies
and our record to date is played four, won two, drew one, lost
one. Our oniy defeat was by a major unit Brian tells me that
we are going to sweep the board this year, we just hope he
has a brush big enough.
Unfortunately, our rugby team hasn't fared so well, being
defeated thirty six to nil in our only pre season friendly but
player/coach W 2 Geoff Collinge assures me that things will
go better (could they get worse!) in the CCRAOC Cup.
We congratulate our 2IC, Captain Burr, on becoming the
RAOC Small Bore Winter League Champion.
Unfortunately
the OC will not allow him to wear his medal on his service
dress. Captain Burr now has his eyes set on the Staff College
where he is posted to next month and sadly we say goodbye
to Mrs Burr who has gone ahead to set up home. Her absence
was noticeable during the recent Stoke Mandeville Appeal
Concert when Captain Burr had the arduous task of Mocking
after' the female dance group
W 2 Geoff Collinge and Staff Sergeant Ted Curtis entered
a one hundred kilometre race at Unna. Staff Sergeant Curtis
was, sadly, forced to retire after eighty six kilometres, a great
effort as he had been suffering for some time, W 2 Coliinge
went on to complete the course alone. Both were awarded
certificates and gold medals and W 2 Collinge was placed ninety
seventh out of a field of approximately one thousand.
The unit has been busy on the courses front and we con-
gratulate the following on their achievements, Lance Corporals
Bob Robertson and Brian Smith on obtaining RPC2, Privates
Les Lovatt and Carl Hemmings who are now B2 Supply
Specialists and finally Lance Corporal Dave Cassam for passing
his Bl driving course.
We welcome to the Company Corporal Steve Carlyon,
Lance Corporal John Fennell and wife Cheryl and Privates Dave
Perrott and Paul Calder.
We sadly say farewell to Lance
Corporals Bob Phillips and Jim Sinnett ACQ
You've heard the one about the two old ladies, well Staff
Sergeant Paul Dyson and Sergeant Larry Pomeroy managed to
get themselves locked in the gymnasium changing rooms, un-
fortunately someone let them out!
4th Armoured Division
HEADQUARTERS
SINCE our last contribution we have said
farewell to Major Peter Lamb our S02 Sup
(Accn) and welcome in his place Major
John Hardcastle.
We welcome Private
Wurzel Briddon back to the fold, after his
attachment to the Ordnance Company and
congratulate him on attaining his B2 Sup
O k and passing his HGV3 driving test I
hope you appreciate how hard we had to
badger on your behalf. There is strong rumour going about that
Captain Jon Campbell may take his BFT before the current
period ends. (Passed yesterday—Adjutant.)
At the present moment the Headquarters is rather quiet as
a large proportion of the staff are away enjoying the rigours
of Exercise Certain Encounter with the 5(US) Corps. No doubt
Commander Supplies conference clubs will come in useful.
RAOC M and RO have been kind to Lance Corporal Paddy
Rhodes in posting him to FVD Recklinghausen,^yet another
tour in BAOR.
Corporal Steve Lewis from the corridors of power up-
stairs has been walking round with a permanent smile on his face
since he found out he is to be posted to Zimbabwe, now we
know why he wanted to visit Wigston while he was on leave!
