On the last Saturday of the month we held the annual
u \OC Verden Station Bar-B-Que at Arnold Mett's house. This
nroved a great success thanks to a lot of hard work by Sergeant
Dave Coombs. Conductor Fred Maskery was quite overcome
by the sight of half a pigs worth of crackling and must have
eaten about a third of it, much to the chagrin of the Adjutant
w ho was attempting to do the same, but was too slow off the

Our only departure this month has been Corporal Give
Craiiter moving down to 5 Field Force Ordnance Company at
\lunster. Now someone else will have to put up with his
perpetual cheerfulness in all situations. We wish him all the
besl for the future.
ORDNANCE
COMPANY
THIS month has seen the Unit fully committed to Exercises
with the CRAOCs exercise followed by Hurst Park. With the
Bavarian Southern Summer advance party poised to get away
the air has been full of loading lists and cam nets. Exercise
First Race was the CRAOCs first exercise with the company,
it proved to be fast moving with plenty of incident and drama
to put us all through our paces. We had aerial recce's flown
against us—to no avail we hear, perhaps the Adjutant gave them
the wrong grid reference—gas attacks, helicopter training, first
aid with simulated casualties and as a grand finale a M2 ferry
crossing of the Weser which went well until the sappers tried
to load Steve Marshall's recovery vehicle. However, this was
finally taken aboard as the M2 revved into the bank and our
young Marshall seized his chance and accelerated up the ramp
(Prins Ferries are nothing like this),
STORES PLATOON 7 ARMOURED
WORKSHOP
WITH half the Platoon on Exercise Odin Spanner, our annual
summer jaunt to the delights of Denmark, we the rear party
are holding the fort. ' Never mind lads our turn next.*
We welcome Second Lieutenant Graeme Hazlewood and
Corporal Mick Pannell both from 1 ADOC in Soltau. We
also welcome Donna Stevenson to our civilian staff, and say
farewell to Sandra Searle.
Congratulations are in order to Private Dexter and Lyn
White on the birth of their daughter Marleena, and on pro-
motion to Sergeant Mick Walsh and Lance Corporal Steve
Hartley,
Corporal John Barclay was presented with his Long Service
and Good Conduct Medal by Colonel R. W. Cockman (REME),
well done John.
Welcome back to the fold to Private Ken Buckley from
Northern Ireland.
STORES SECTION 45 FIELD REGIMENT
WORKSHOP
Scribe: Sraff Sergeant Chris Kelly.
During the past few months the" turnover in the Stores
Section has been quite considerable. In February we said fare-
well to W 2 Peter Roberts now with Headquarters 1 Armoured
The Stores Section with a RA M l 9 SP Gun in the background.
Rear left to right: Private Shields, Private Ranee, Lance Corporal
Jones, Corporal Jeanne, Private Morrall, Corporal Hale, Private
Luckman. Front left to right: Staff Sergeant Kelly, W 1 Henty,
Sergeant Reynolds.
Corporal Alan Frampton our other fitter looked quite
white about the gills during the loading operation and for once
did not drop his hook whilst near water! As a trial, the Unit was
split to practise dispersal and independent operation giving
Second Lieutenant Gary Saunders and Staff Sergeant Ron
Hulse in 1 Platoon and Sergeant Pete Woo Hey in 2 Platoon a
chance to do their own thing. When last seen they were all
checking NBC drills and Arcs of Fire!
Intrepid readers of this column will be glad to hear that
the technical activity was so great on the exercise that W 2
Les Fagg has lost his * golden blanket * to our new star Captain
Jack—" I'm not really asleep just resting my eyes"—Ewart;
there was a rumour that the AO had no where to sleep so he
put himself on duty.
Sergeant Chris (Rocky) Donal has won himself a medal he
completed a seventy kilometre Dutch Invitation march well
within the time limit and crossed the line at a trot to the delight
of a very large crowd.
In addition to our exercises we are entering a team for
Bisley again this year, we hope that Sergeant Pete Woo Hey,
Corporal Rooke, Lance Corporal Dickie Bird, Craftsman Steve
Marshall and Private Fitzgibbon manage to hit the target as
well as they did at the Divisional Shoot.
Congratulations to Monica Speak our orderly room clerk
who has just won a car in a local raffle and finally, extra con-
gratulations to Mrs Dee Chapman, Mrs Lorraine Ross and
Mrs Angela Wytheridge on the birth of their bouncing babies—
didVt they all do well.
Division, and in his place WOl Del Henry also from Head-
quarters 1 Armoured Division. The * Boss * for want or lack
of other words has caused quite an impression in his new role,
and in fact the Stores Section has a new role, in issuing and
storing of scrap-iron, wood, No. 2 Binning and cam net repairs.
(REME do not despair, we do hold some items, not many, but
some). The only item we are deficient in is old Hercules him-
self, this deficiency was of course noted on our recent Ord
Ancillary Inspection.
Having received several instructions from CICP to local
purchase spares for our American made guns we approached
the local NAAFI Manager. He was last seen trying to place
an Ml09 gun barrel on a shelf in the Gifts and Durables Depart-
ment.
Privates Alan Innes and Derek s Oggie' Roberts have now
left us and in their places we welcomed Privates Jock Shields
and Geoff " Oggie Mk 2 s Ranee, (Oggie come back all is for-
given).
We wish Sergeant Len Reynolds a speedy recovery after
his recent fall, his application to join the Para*s is still open.
On a sane note we congratulate Lance Corporal Dave * Grumpy*
Jones or rather his wife, on their recent addition to the family.
