Transcription Ken Bartlett and Major Brian Page. This is one way of seei nB
Berlin but surely not the most leisurely. Jeanette has alreadj
obtained sponsorships for over DM1.500 for handicappJJ
children for the marathon, so good luck to her and all our other
entrants.
Finally, we come to Departures and Arrivals. Ordnance
Services have said farewell to WOl Alan Freemanlle who has
gone to FOD Dulmen and have welcomed his successor WQl
Stuart Brierley. In the Headquarters Sergeant Dave Monger
has been replaced by Sergeant Pete Fisher whilst Sergeant
Neil Marsh is preparing to leave ASB for London District.
RAOC Berlin
THE Berlin British Tattoo is looming large and over one
thousand British performers have already arrived in Berlin to
take part in the 198! Tattoo. We have had to provide accom-
modation stores for this immigrant population and Ordnance
Services have also been involved, in the preparations for the
Tattoo in other ways, RSSD have contributed their expertise to
the making of a Garter Arch for the model of Caernarvon
Castle and they have also made Chinese mandarin thrones, flags,
banners, sentry boxes and other such diverse items. It is possible
that Major Alan Clouter, Staff Sergeant Ken Bartlett and Herr
Bill Kaiser will come down to earth after the heady days of the
Tattoo are over. The Unit is also running the Tattoo Shop with
an avowed aim of making over DM100,000 profit for British
and German charities. Prominent here are Mr Al Roberts, Mr
Hugh Norton, and Mr Norman Harrison of the ASU,
We are now recovering from the St Barbara's Day celebra-
tions which started with a Church Service and ended with the
presentation of prizes by Mrs Johni van Orton to the members
of the winning * It's a Knockout' team. Alexander Barracks
was the venue for a barbeque lunch, a very enjoyable * Knock-
out ' competition, a tug-of-war which finally involved most of
the Unit and their families, together with a train ride and
trampolining for the children. The ' Knockout * competition,
capably organised by Captain Jonathan Rollason and W02 Brian
Wicks, was the highlight of the afternoon. Especially popular
was Commander Supplies' involuntary splash in the ' plank over
the water' game in which Staff Sergeant Dave Beadsworth
showed his running prowess over the water when competing
against Staff .Sergeant Henry Cooper. Mention must be made of
Major Myles Greenhalgh for the overall organisation of the
day's festivities, Conductor Jack and Mrs Redfem for producing
an appetising barbeque and Cornish tea and of W02 John
Bishop and his helpers for running the bar. St Barbara would
surely have been proud of our celebrations.

CRAOC's Goat: Officially!
I'm sorry, I'll write that again. On a.
recent visit to 6 Gurkha Rifles, Lieutenant
Colonel Fox was given the task of judging
an inter-platoon competition; no problem
for a man of his experience (I'm not allowed
to call him an old soldier). He was then invited to present the
winning platoon with their prize, which was, in true Gurkha
fashion, a live goat. An unusual honour for a Corps officer.
Afterwards he was promised photographic proof of the event and
looked forward eagerly to his mail. The big day did arrive
though and attached to these notes is a copy of the photograph,

their stuff at- the St. Barbara's Day celebrations in Berlin.
To show that he is man of many talents, Staff Sergeant
Ralph Fella of MS Branch, is busy doing a Lew Grade for the
forthcoming Hong Kong Military Tattoo. To avoid overwork
however, he has devised an ingenious system: on his office
door he has erected a sign saying " Ralph's Tattoo Office " and
then refers all prospective customers to the Standing Order
placing all tattoo establishments out of bounds!
To help Ralph's workload, Q Qtg's Staff Sergeant Ray
Dawson, apart from not buying any Tattoo tickets, has taken
over Ralph's duties of Assistant Secretary of the British Forces
Hong Kong Rugby Football Union, although he does not
receive the appointment until December. Full of enthusiasm.
Ray has promised to give lots of details of events concerning
Corps members. If funny shaped balls are your thing, watch
this column.
Farewells are said this month to WOl Phil Buxton, Staff
Asst Ord. who has travelled over the water to Menden in
Germany, and to Major Don Young, ex S03 Accn. who has
also travelled over the water
to ASU in Kowloon. To
balance things out, we welcome Major David Hodgens, from
Kineton as the new DAA and QMG. Captain Geoff Harcourt
from Bicester as the new S03 Accn and WOl Jim Newsham from
Antwerp as Staff Asst Ord, not forgetting of course, their
respective families.
BFBS Berlin have been running a pop panel league and a
team from the Orderly Room topped the charts. 1 The team mem-
bers, W02 Keith Kilgour, Sergeant Jim O Bryan, Corporal
Duggie Hill and Lance Corporal Bill Musson went to the BFBS
studios to receive their reward—an imitation golden disc. Such
musical discernment! Not to be outdone, the Ammunition Sub
Depot team of Captain Mark Blatherwick. WOZ Dave Vincent,
Sergeants Ian Rimell and George Handyside are in the current
league and should, we hope, score a few hits soon,
Turning to sports, hockey is again to the fore with news
that Captain Bill Martin (you are not forgotten—we all love
you!), and W 2 Dave Vincent played in the Alexander Barracks
team who were runners up in the inter-Berlin plate competition.
They have also been selected for the Berlin combined services
trials. Well done!
The Berlin city marathon takes place soon and RAOC will
be particularly well represented. From the Headquarters staff,
Staff Sergeants Dave Beadsworth, Dave Kilnan and John
CJaughton will be running. Ordnance Services will have the
female greyhound, Mr Jeanette Kilgour and ten year old
Cheryl Page together with Staff Sergeants Al Cowlishaw and
