Transcription -iders of this column may have noted that 1 have made
ice on a number, of occasions to Stall Sergeant Joe
\ . Chief Clerk Ord, and his lack of inches (in height of
J. •). WelK you will read no more about them. While main-
,,n ,4 an excellent sense of humour over the gentle ribbing
c ' s been given, he has persuaded me to drop the subject—
ctuaily- he threatened to jump up and hit me in the kneecaps!
Composite Ordnance Depot Hong Kong
STONECUTTERS ISLAND shuddered when the Training Team
from the Depot arrived with a group of children for a Summer
t;"'!T^p. The Camp lasted for three days with abseiling, archery
hooting, A good time was had by all the children. Major
aided by Second Lieutenant Gosney and W02 Trev
s c
fix-veil breathed a sigh of relief on its successful conclusion.
All Supply Specialists were asked to analyse their jobs.
As a result, no doubt, they will be redesignated. The suggested
titles, unfortunately, cannot be printed,
Congratulations must go to Corporal Fred Scarborough
and Lance Corporal Pete Coole on the GOCs Commendation
for fishing.
The Chinese woman they caught was expertly
landed and revived. Also to Pete Cooney on his great escape
io 50 Command Workshop and actually accepted Acting
M y Sergeant as well. The resulting tremor enabled Paddy
s; iflebottom to move to the Sergeants Mess as Acting Sergeant,
On the sporting scene the unit football team started practice
and friendly matches with great success. Managed by Captain
A. R- Munce and coached by W 2 Duncan Leitch the squad
gathered strength with the latest nine nil win against the RMP.
The next year's match will be held at the MCTC Colchester.
The unit volleyball team reached the Hong Kong finals
but the strength of the opposing teams proved too great.
Welcomes go to Major S. G. Woods MBE, WOl Major,
Corporal Vince Haley and families.
Farewells to Captain D. E. Mayne, WOl Candlin and
i nilies.

had a penny (what's
one of those?) for
every ten sheets of
paper we have handled.
P e a c e does not,
however, prevail for very long in FHQ. We are now busy with
the administration connected with roulement, November the
visit of the C-in-C UKLF arid December Exercise Montezumas
Revenge IV.
The Spartans are now Posting Order watching/hunting, with
he exception of W 2 Steve Shear who knows when and where
•MS'S going. M and RO please put the rest of us out of our agony.
Anywhere will do as long as the temperature drops below seventy
rive degrees occasionally. Talking of temperatures, all our train-
ing was to some avail as all the FHQ Staff Clerks passed the
BFT. After Belize running in Europe will be fun!
Some noteable achievements for this month include: The
award of the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to W 2
Shear! Sergeant Skidmore passed his BFT! a Staff Clerk got
some R and Rt Two Staff Clerks got a Sunday off!
As there is no rest for the wicked, and boy are we wicked,
hese notes are hereby declared ended.
British Military Advisory and
Training Team Zimbabwe
GREETINGS again from darkest Africa, or at least the Pool
Deck of the Meikles Hotel.
The Ordnance training at the Services Training School,
Bulawayo, is now coming to a successful and controlled close
with the Zimbabwe Army Service Corps being nearly self-
sufficient 1 in both QM and Storeman instructors. Our last In-
structors course was a great success, as was an Ordnance
Officers' Orientation Cadre, managed by newly arrived (but
short toured!) Major Andrew Byles, hot food from 79 Supply
Depot! He arrived all rarin' to go for six months, taking over
from Major David Marks as Instructor Logistic Training, but was
promptly deflated by the news that his job was being phased out
after only three months. Major Marks managed to wangle an
extension, being transferred to the Zimbabwe Staff College, and
it is rumoured that he is now, in fact, working fairly hard.
Sadly, the explosions at Inkomo Barracks Ammunition
Depot have deprived Captain Max Burnett and W 2 Dave
Thornley of any unit at all and they were last seen despondently
reading the News of the World somewhere in the depths of
Headquarters BMATT.
Recently departed from that illustrious Headquarters in
Salisbury have been Sergeants Davis and Wells, Sergeants Owen
and O'Hare arriving to take their places. We hope their tours
are pleasant ones.
Mid-tour at the Staff College we find
Sergeants Campbell, Cox and Rowles and, going by ' no news
is good news, 1 they too are enjoying their tours and, no doubt,
working fairly hard too.
Further postings at the Services Training School include
the departure of WOl Stead and'W02 Moffat, handing over the
QM training to W02 Terry Vowles. Staff Sergeants Jim Hesketh
and Frank Mines leave the Storemen training to Sergeant Rowles,
yet to arrive, so one can see that the gradual Ordnance con-
traction is well under way.
However, enough for this month. Please continue to think
of us out here sweating and toiling on your behalf in searing
heat and unbearable conditions.
You wouldn't believe the
sacrifices we make out here. We have some difficulty in believing
them ourselves!

THE PAR EAST 1919-1939
THE Imperial War Museum is producing a sound recording
of British service personnel who served in the Far East (China,
Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaya) in the inter-war years.
The aim is to build up a record, in the voices of the
participants, of the various aspects of service life which exist
only in the memories of those who served . . . information on
such aspects as training operations and day to day life in
this area at this time.
We are looking for officers and other ranks of that neriod
who are willing to take part; those selected can be interviewed
either at home or at the museum in London.
If you can help please send general details of your stations
and dates to the Curator RAOC Museum, Black down Barracks,
Deepcut, Camberley, Surrey GU16 6RW for selection by the
Imperial War Museum*
Names of others you remember serving in this area between
the wars would also help so that we can contact them if
necessary.
