THE OFFICERS CLUB

THE 1981 Officers Club Dinner was held at Headquarters
Officers Mess when over two hundred members attended.
During an entertaining after dinner speech the Representa-
tive Colonel Commandant, Major General Stanyer, reviewed
the past years Corps events and also announced the 1981 RAOC
Awards for Achievement.
Awards went to Major John Ross and Captain Carl Hoe for
their success in the Observer Europe 1 Trans-Atlantic Race in
which they were sixth in their class, crossing in twenty five
days. (See page 203 November issue.) Their awards were

ARMY BENEVOLENT FUND
CARTOON BOOK
Major John Ross and Captain Carl Hoe.
A BOOK of cartoons and comment called * If you can't take a
joke—you shouldn't have joined' has been drawn by Carl and
the comment is the work of Tank Nash.
This team was
responsible for a highly successful collection of cartoons about
the ACC issued some years ago.
* If you can't take a joke . . . ' is aimed at the Army
generally and not at any regiment or corps in particular. It has
a foreword by Sir Harry Secombe and an amusing collection of
okes about the Army by people who know the Army.
All profit from sales of this book will be used by the Army
benevolent Fund to help soldiers and their families who are in
real need. A leaflet and order form has gone to all units at home
and in BAOR.
The book retails at £1.00 and can be obtained from the Duke
of York's Headquarters for £1,50 including p and p. Despatch
of bulk orders will be arranged direct from the printers.
The third award went to Corporal Ian Gray our out-
standing golfer whose father, incidentally, was a Lieutenant
Colonel in the Corps during the last war. He seems to have
won almost everything in Corps and Army golf and his prowess
and conduct has brought much credit to the Corps.
It was an excellent evening in good company and pleasant
surroundings. Next year it will be held on the 15th October at
the same venue, Members should mark it in their diary now.
A 2 BOD REUNION
SOME thirty six ex-members of 2 BOD who had all served
together in Palestine during the war, recently met together at the
Midland Hotel, Derby.
Twenty five previous reunions of this unit had been held
in London but the effort of finding suitable accommodation
proved too much for the organiser, George Price.
Others took u p the battle and after a referendum it was
decided that the Midlands^ might be a better venue and in the
event the hotel and its position proved most successful,
This particular reunion was going to be the final fling but
hose attending were so strongly in favour of yet another one
that every effort will be made for it to be repeated next year.
It there are other ex 2 BOD members who want more
information, please get in touch with: Mr Peter Coleman, 74
Cyprus Road, Nottingham NG3 5ED.
