Colonel Commanoant
AS we celebrate Christmas 1981, in our
homes or in duty stations overseas, we can
be proud of the Christian Love for all
mankind, which we see in the work of so
many serving and retired members of our
Corps.
My wife joins me in sending our greet-
ings to past and present members of the
Corps and the civilians in the Army Ord-
nance Services, for Christmas 1981 and our
hope for a peaceful 1982,
J. T. Stanyer, Major General,

MARRIAGES

from ttjt ©<@S;
IN my Christmas message last year 1 said
that whatever 1981 may have in store for us
in the Corps, I knew you would all meet its
challenges with the same spirit that had
carried us through the problems we faced in
1980, My confidence was well-founded and
in spite of all the pressures, to which we
have been subjected, you have come through
with flying colours.
In particular 1981 will be remembered
as the year Ordnance Services Berlin
received the Freedom of Spandau and in
which we were honoured by the invitation
of the new Lord Mayor of London — a
former officer in the RAOC—to play such
an important part in his inaugural Pro-
cession. We can all be justly proud of the
distinction these events have brought to the
Corps.
In our travels throughout the United
Kingdom and BAOR this year, my wife and
1 have been delighted to see the spirit which
pervades everywhere amongst our soldiers
and their families. Your hospitality has been
tremendous.
We would therefore like to send at this
time to all our officers and soldiers, their
families and our civilian staffs throughout
the world our best wishes for a happy
Christmas and a guid New Year. In this we
would also like to include all those retired
members of the Corps who created the
tradition, which those of us still serving
must continue to maintain. And as I write,
the events of recent days have focussed the
country's attention on our bomb disposal
personnel, whose incalculable contribution
to that tradition will long be remembered
not only in our Corps' history but in the
words of our nation's historians in years to
come.
