become accustomed to since his arrival
in Military Operations. It was even reported that the Supt
Clerk, WOl Sam Johnston, was seen in office after five thirty—
it must have been a busy period—or could it be that we
happen to be into CR time!
We say 'farewell this month to Lance Corporal Wendy
Jones who leaves us for Deepcut and welcome Corporal Sylvia
Gray from Bielefeld and Lance Corporal Carol Duggan from
Rheindahlen. We hope they enjoy their tour with us.
U
CGS SECRETARIAT
AFTER a long Summer when everyone in the office seemed
either to be on leave or on a course of some kind, we are now
finally fully manned again for the long haul up to Christmas,
or the ' Silly Season * if you prefer (only thirty four working
days to go as at time of writing).
BFTs have been and gone (with a one hundred per cent
pass rate no less), but that is as it should be with four mem-
bers of the office busy training for next year's London Marathon.
Promotion has also reared its welcome head in the shape of
a crown for Start Sergeant John Barnes—many congratulations
John—although after breaking the RSM's cup he may not have it
long!
On the courses front, congratulations are due to Corporal
Chris Rhodes on passing his RPC1 course at Bicester last
month and he sends his regards to all the other ' Water Babies'
and * Warriors' on the course, (They know who they are).
Sergeant Paddy Killeen has also been away on his EPC(A) and
we are now being regaled with his horrendous accounts of how
much homework he had to do, how difficult it was, etc, etc—
we hope that you've passed!
Just lately we have also seen an expansion of John Barnes'
Tuck Shop with the wives of all members of CGS's Secretariat
busily baking cakes for their greedy husbands to devour during
the week—weight watchers beware I Sergeant Jim Kilby's wife
is at the top of the list at the moment with a splendid chocolate
and walnut cake.
Last of all we would like to say congratulations and fare-
well to Staff Sergeant Jim Byrne on his promotion to W02 and
his posting to Cyprus. (Roll out the Barrel!.)
Headquarters Director General of Ordnance Services
ORD L The forecast changes to our Organisation have now
been completed and the DGOS Secretariat is no more!
Lieutenant Colonels John Marsden and Arthur Hawley having
moved into Ord 1 corridor to set up as Ord lb. Colonel Stan
Rogers, Inspector RAOC, has retired; passing his chair t o
Colonel Tony Futrell. Colonel Stan is soon to take up an RO
appointment at Deepcut so will continue to serve the Corps
for a few more years to come. Farewell also to Mrs Margaret
Moody who has left us on promotion to Clerical Officer, being
replaced by Miss Angela Baker who has already settled in well.
We are also very pleased to receive Mrs Jean Pearce (Ord (c)
back into the fold after her long period of illness.

Sergeant Paul O'Hara working the ' N o d d y ' train during a very
successful Open Day heid recently at LE(A) Andover. Most
of our military staff were heavily involved in the Side Shows
making money for charity but special mention must be made of
Major Pat Wall who. as the Ordnance Representative on the
Organising Commitee, put in such a vast amount of hard work
during the week leading up to the event.
ORD 2. With the too frequent low fronts hitting the UK at the
moment we reflect on the now ending Summer hols with the
more attractive ones being spent by Colonel Alan Newcombe
in Tunisia and by Lieutenant Colonel John Eddison in Southern
France, whilst the * jundys ' spent a more home loving time on
the Costa del Bognor and Barry! Wherever they went, all seemed
to enjoy themselves and rather reluctantly returned to work for
a rest! Major Ron Gray, Hon Sec RAOC RUFC (and bar) spent
many hours trying to arrange for the RAOC Rugby team to tour
Hong Kong, but due to sponsors desponsoring and the dreaded
moratorium that tour had to be called off, but all is not lost
as the go ahead has been given for the side to tour BAOR. Hon
Sec has been heard pacing the corridor perfecting (once again)

Noch ein bier bitte*! Makes a change from \Ah! So! Tiger!.'
Regimentally, bodies of many shapes and sizes can be seen
preparing for the second part of the BFT. On the sporting scene,
Major David Howells (Retd) continues to run the opposition
around the squash court; the Wilton Hash is supported by
Captain Ken Jackson and Staff Sergeant John Lee, with the
latter also representing LE(A) at football; Cross Country run-
ning is ably supported in the form of Sergeant Dave Blagg.
Tn the world of golf, our resident experts Lieutenant Colonel
Reg Williams and Mr David Tobitt the SFSO regularly frequent
the ancient ceremony of belting the little white ball around the
greens. Their latest representative match for LE(A) against
RAF Boscombe Down ended — ? — well the greens were nice
to walk on anyway!

THIS month's bad news concerns Major Bob Lawton and his
family. They have left on his posting to Deepcut. We are all
extremely sorry to see them go. They have been pillars of
Garrison life, at work and out of it and will be sorely missed.
He leaves to take over the Training Company of the Training
Battalion, which should suit him admirably. NAAFi is also
well suited by this move. Sales of brown shoe polish have been
