Transcription WO J <SSM) K. C. Ciddings is presented with his Long Service and
Qogd Conduct Medal by Major General Kitson at the Staff
College.
Baillie, What he actually does remains highly secretive but he can
be seen dashing around with various intriguing looking dockets
which are all Greek to the average Staff Clerk.
Lastly, to be found beavering away behind the scenes in
Theatre, Conference Rooms and Divisional Conference Halls is
our Projectionist Corporal G. Turner who manages somehow
to operate twelve projectors at one time even though they are
located acres apart.
So you see, RAOC Personnel have many unknown talents
rind, in case any readers may be curious, we also will be com-
plying successfully our ' Battle Fitness Tests' in October this
year! Surely, this will be a Camberley 'first 1 ?

Our Superintending Clerk, WOl Ian Birchall
has not yet come to terms with four weeks recess
leave—after SHAPE it has come as a shock, We shall leave
him well alone until he gets over it. Staff Sergeant Ian Munro
has taken to * G * Branch in a very endearing way—who can
bbme him with an office staff of ladies! If you thought 'Love
Story' brought tears to your eyes wait until the Medals
Office reads a certain l Plea of Mitigation.' Jt could be en-
titled 'Absence makes the heart grow fonder/
A quartier-general de TAcademie, Staff Sergeant Georges
Stephen a flnit son recouperation apres ses jours en exercise
Tipperary, a TEcole Militaire a St Cyr. On a did quil avait
donner un period d'instruction a Torchestra francais sur la
place sacrei de YAcademic. Pendant tout George a rester tran-
quil. (This is meant to convey that certain people, having
* suffered' the trials of a trip to France, are listening to the
b^id and too busy to subscribe!).
In Old College, those two stalwarts; Sergeant Gus Curry
and Lance Corporal Ken Robs on have actually qualified as
marksmen whilst on exercise at Hythe. However, should they
re-shoot under RAOC observation?? Sergeant Gus Curry, when
not on exercise in the ' scrublands/ is ably supporting that
notorious character George on Exercise Tipperary. Their stories
and escapades are not to be mentioned here.
New College is busily preparing for the dispersal/reception
of SMC 17/19 respectively. At present Major Mike Groves,
Lance Corporal Doel, Corporal Lane, Lance Corporal Briggs
^rvH Private Chris Pavey are on Exercise Eiffel Tower in BAOR.
Congratulations go to Corporal Bill and Mrs McLernon on the
birth of their baby girl and to Corporal Lane and Lance Corporal
Briggs on obtaining ' B * grade passes on their B2 and Bl courses.
Captain Roger Wyborn is busily brushing up on tactics in.
order to take up his new appointment as Platoon Commander
next term. Rumour has it that Staff Sergeant Peter Harrison
was recently seen scuttling into the storeroom with a copy of
the Readers Digest World Atlas and posting preference form
tucked under his arm. (No hope of Nassau Pete!).
Victory College has seen the return of Sergeant Ron Carr
from his EPC (A) complete with bags under the eyes. In addi-
tion to the EPC (A) results, he is also awaiting the results of
his GCE * O * levels. We wish him well. Now that his sojourn
is over, perhaps Victory College can come back into the fold.
Lance Corporal Taylor, whilst acting as Chief Clerk, and trying
every other weekend to visit his wife in Birmingham, is seen
rushing around the grounds looking for that little bit of paper.
Staff Sergeant Brian Wicks is to. be found in the depths of
the QMs Depot, busily scratching out words of Q wisdom to all
and sundry. His new title of Supply Clerk is slowly sinking in
and woe betide anyone who forgets!
A Sergeants Mess dinner night to say farewell to two old
friends Conductor Eric Briggs and Staff Sergeant John Kay on
their retirement, was held on 7th July. Speeches and presenta-
tions were the order of the evening which was much enjoyed by
all those who attended from RMAS and Staff College. Eric Briggs
disappeared from his dining out at 11 pm, just to prove how
civilianised he is becoming.
On the sporting side, Staff Sergeants Harrison and Stephen
and Sergeant Carr are holding their heads high at cricket and
squash.
Fm told that if L don't mention Major Jim Houseman I'll
have to write this newsletter everytime until 1 do. Til just say
that the newstyie Headquarters Wing with paint, carpets, curtains,
new furniture and the like got an NA certificate for Desks
Majors—such is life. I know that CRAOC London District
rides horses on parade, but is the galloping Major here jumping
the gun. He assures us he is merely taking riding lessons.
Ordnance Depot Northern Ireland
AS June drew to a wet and blustery close, Captain Alastair
Shackleton took the Regimental Training Staff and a group of
soldiers from the Depot up to Magilligan Training Camp for a
training weekend. The CSM, W02 Ken McCormick, ensured
that the Bar-B-Q set was packed with the noddy suits and web-
bing so that he could practise his fc haute cuisine/ In spite of the
poor weather, the weekend was a great success and everyone
was pleased to spend a few days away from the restrictions of
FCinnegar.
It was gongs galore during July when the GOC, Lieutenant
General Sir Timothy Creasey paid a visit to the Depot during
which he presented Sergeant Sammy Williams with his Long
Service and Good Conduct Medal at a small ceremony in the
Sergeants Mess. This was followed by the QMG, General
Sir Patrick Howard-Dobson, who, during a lightning visit to the
Supply Sub-Depot, presented Staff Sergeant John Bishop with
his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. We offer our con-
gratulations to both recipients.
Lance Corporal Jim Mulligan has found that a Free Fall
Parachuting Course and Driving Test go well together as he has
passed both in the last month while Lance Corporal Mike
