As everyone here knows that three comes before
two in 32J EOD Company we regret to say that the Omagh
team have been relegated to No. 2 Section, Tuff Luck Lads!
Army Headquarters Scotland
A RECENT highlight was the visit by the
DGOS. In an effort to be different the
General was taken to see our Meat Con-
tractor's Factory at Perth and then to
sample Contract Catering with the UDR
training in Scotland. We also sent him
up the river in a barge.
DGOS and
CRAOC called on the Port Admiral at
Rosyth and together they proceeded up
the Firth of Forth in the Admiral's barge
to look at the Naval Armaments Depot at
Crombie in the Kingdom of Fife.
The General was persuaded to bring
his wife with him to Scotland for a break, tL Honest Sir, we
didn't mean Mrs Brown to take us literally." We are not sure
whether or not CRAOC has forgiven his wife yet, incidentally.
anybody looking for a newish short nosed Lancia, should send
their enquiries to Outer Siberia, where we understand Lieutenant
Colonel Connolly is due to lake up his next appointment. in
charge of salt production ! {See page 246.)

South East District
THERE have been two major events this
month, Exercise Live Log and the BFT,
Firstly Live Log, this was an interesting
exercise which involved most of the
branch with the exception of our two
WOsl, Pete Burrell and Mick Elsey. N
one is quite sure how they managed this
but it is understood that they are willing
to give tuition (at a small cost) Major
Granville Holt and Major Keith Mentzel
were detached to COD Bicester and Burnetts Lane respectively
as observers. This left the rest of us to man the Ops room for
the period of the e\ercise.
All the Headquarters Staff were required to run their BFTs
this month, needless to say all the branch personnel passed, some
with flying colours and others by their last gasp. It is agreed
by all that next year will be interesting when the times for the
over forties are drastically cut.
(Is nothing safe from the
moratorium!)
CRAOC, Colonel Shephard the Chairman of Army Gliding
has been spreading his aviation influence around the branch and
by the time of publication we hope that WOl Pete Burrell and
possibly Major Granville Holt will have been airborne.
Major Lance Brett has been away organising the Corps
Squash Championships, a separate article covering this appears
in THE GAZETTE. We welcome Major Robin Johnson who takes
over as OC of OSU Ashfoxd and say farewell to Captain David
Moore who is off to Ord Depot Antwerp. We also say farewell
to Major Arthur Attwood who retires from the Corps shortly.
Finally it is with regret that we have to report the death of
Captain George Vincent (Retd) who was the PSAG of 54 Com-
pany (TA) until June 1980.
6 Field Force
Mrs Brown and Mrs Connolly after their argument with sixteen
other cars on the Forth Road Bridge.
Last week Lieutenant Colonel Hambly (CRAOC Scotland
designate) paid us a flying visit, to book-up his fishing for next
year and to have a quick look at his new quarter. The noise he
heard wasn't a dying cat but one of his officers taking lessons
from our Piping Major.
REGIONAL
DEPOT
STIRLING
CAPTAIN PALIN'S departure to Andover was marked by a
most enjoyable luncheon at the Garfield Hotel in Stirling and
was attended by members of his staff and close associates who
wish him every success in his new appointment.
We were recently privileged to witness the presentation of
the Imperial Service Medals to two long serving members of the
Depot—Mr Alex Stewart, who many may remember from his
BAO'R days and Mr Davie Ramage from the Depot Workshop.
This was followed by a celebratory drink with a well known
game bird on the label.
REMEMBER THE DEADLINE
IS THE 28th AT DEEPCUT
*
HEADQUARTERS
SADLY, this is the last time that our
contribution to THE GAZETTE will be headed
6th Field Force as from the 1st January
1982 we become !st Infantry Brigade.
Not only is the Force being re-named
but also re-housed and we move from
Aldershot to Tidworth in December 198L
In recent months there has been much
coming and going of personnel, not least of
which is the departure of both our FOWO,
WOl John Walton (now Lieutenant Walton) and Superintending
Clerk, WOl Fred Stephenson (now Lieutenant Stephenson) on
commissioning, we wish them well in their new appointments.
We also say farewell to Private Eddie Burrows on his departure
to Northern Ireland. As replacements we welcome the new
FOWO, WOl Mick O'Meara and the new Superintending Clerk,
WOl Archie Claydon.
Recent successes include Exercise Amber Express which
was held in Denmark, where the Corps yet again proved its
worth by providing, at extremely short notice, Steak and Kidney
Pudding for our Commander's supper!
Needless to say, social activities in Denmark were many
and varied—Copenhagen truly lived up to its name!
We would like to wish all members of the Corps a Very
Happy Christmas and New Year.
ORDNANCE
COMPANY
WITH the end of Exercise Amber Express, most of Aldershofs
finest came home again. True to ' movers * form, the personnel
were boarded into one ferry, and the vehicles on another. Apart
from one or two minor mishaps; the ships RSM trying to close
the bar and Sergeant Julian Nowak forgetting about being on
the top bunk, the boat people arrived in Harwich in good order.
The ferry with the vehicles, however, broke down in the North
Sea and arrived several hours later. Then came the orderly
convoy run back to Sunny Aldershot, the AO (Captain Peter
Turrell) who left the docks last, somehow arrived back first
who was packet commander?
Other highlights of the month included a Potential Officers
visit in the ' field' near Blackdown. The Coffer demonstration
at Blackdawn, with PC and A setting up two office vehicles, one
with the old ' steam ' Kalamazoo system of accounting and one
with the new computer Coffer system. The demonstration was
visited by the DGOS and many other well known personalities.
Our unit club had its * Grand Opening Disco' after being re-
decorated and re-furbished by Staff Sergeant Scanlon, Sergeant
Duncalf, Corporal Foxon, Privates Lake and Phillips and many
other hard-working and willing helpers,
