Transcription Men of the Stores Platoon of 7 Armoured Workshop in the Field.
Baggaley went on to complete the exercise in the shortest time in
the Stores Platoon.
Our football and volleyball stars were s Brymers Braves *
consisting of: Sergeant Paddy Brymer, Lance Corporal Tony
Malloy our adopted REME mascot, Privates Mark Elkington,
Kevin Hardman, Tony Smith and Chippy Wood. They reached
the finals in both events.
On the night mini compass march Corporal John Barclay
and Lance Corporals Sammy Samuels and Pete Biggs produced
an excellent performance, the best in the Workshop,
We wish Sergeant Steve and Ester Ward good luck for their
future in civilian life, and we welcome Privates Gerry Madine and
Dirk Wilson, hoping their stay with us will be a happy one.

the station and pointed in a southerly direction. Surprisingly
enough Pfronten lives lo see another year with their ice stadium
that much better for the paint liberally applied by 3 Armoured
Division Ordnance Company and the Unit that much better off
for our new found skills in water ski-ing, climbing, abseiling,
swimming and sailing.
The visit of the DOS (BAOR) was very successful or at
least we hope it was. Staff Sergeant Clive Evans and Corporal
' Chalkie' White (REME) were presented with their Long
Service and Good Conduct Medals by the DOS. This occurred
in the newly decorated Unit club and so a double celebration
was called for.
0200 the next day saw the start of Exercise Prop Forward
which turned into a continuous exercise in recovering bogged
in vehicles and search and find operations (for the continuous
stream of lost vehicles). The weekend saw the exercise go nor>
tactical with non-tactical cam nets with non-tactical cam poles
attached.
The non-tactical mud was enough to warm the
cockles of a mud-lark's heart. Private ' Happy Jack T Porter
thought the best use of the weekend could be made by going
for the full twenty four hours sleep, nearly made it and is thus
awarded the k Golden Blanket * award for the exercise. The
highlight of the exercise was a full scale Company attack on an
enemy location in the middle of nowhere with lots of bangs
thumps crashes and a certain amount of chaos into the bargain.
Everyone eventually returned to sunny Soest safe and sound.
It was interesting to have with the Company three members of
our German affiliated Unit, Nachschubkompanie 200, whose
first question was iL w he re's my bed." Little did they know that
sleeping was just a figment of the imagination (with the notable
exception of Headquarters RAOC of course!).
The Friday after the exercise saw the star performance of
Lance Corporal ' Eric' Ward and Corporal * Ernie' Egan at the
Unit stag night where everyone got a bit of the good humoured
wit and a little drinking was done. Overall a good night was
had by all concerned.
Postings in: Corporal Luck, Privates Meek, Wilson,
Connolly, Shivington and Brock.
86 SUPPLY DEPOT
ON 1st July 1978 the Depot came under command of 3 Armoured
Division (The Iron Division).
8 Supply Platoon TAVR spent two successful weeks at-
tached to us carrying out their annual camp. They completed
annual, and on the job continuation training, with a liberal
smattering of good humour and involvement Of course it was
not all hard work. We managed to include some * Educational'
visits to the local Kronen Breweries and other places of interest.
We have said farewell to three of our stalwarts. Firstly
Staff Sergeant * Slim * Jones who has been posted to 5 Armoured
Workshop Stores Platoon on promotion to W02. A hearty
congratulation from all in 86 Supply Depot and good luck in
his new posting. Being a small Unit the foibles and idiosyn-
crasies of all concerned become apparent. Our Mr 'Fix-It'
Sergeant Garry Howitt has left on posting to CAD Kineton.
We are all wondering how the OC is going to get his smoked
trout in future. Even more calamatous for the OC was the
departure of Corporal Henry Robson who has the lay authority,
and quality control expert on German wines. We wish them
both a successful tour in their new Units.
Corporal Jim Freeborn (The Insect Man) who joined us
only a few months ago, has already established himself within
the Garrison as an entomologist. We persuaded him to display
a number of the more interesting species on our Open Day.
This activity was basically for Messing Officers and those within
our dependancy involved with catering. This was the original
concept, but wives and school pupils involved in ' O ' and 'A 1
level Domestic Sciences also attended.
Staff Sergeant Pete Mudway our new Chief Clerk Supplies
also made a point of attending the Open Day as he apparently
wanted to view the commodity range. We understand he can
now tell the difference between Striploin and Stilton Cheese,
We wish him, and his family, a sincere welcome and hope that
they will enjoy their stay in Dortmund.
Congratulations are also due to Staff Sergeant Stan Stoker
and Sergeant Nick Langley who have both been selected for
substantive promotion. Staff Stoker goes as CSM to 1 (BR)
Corps Vehicle Company and Sergeant Langley as a Staff Sergeant
to Ord Depot Northern Ireland. Corporal Bob Stevens is alsc
to be congratulated on his substantive promotion.
Corporal Brian Bolton recently joined the Unit. He is no^
well settled in and we wish him and his family a happy ant"
successful tour. Congratulations are also due to Mrs Stokei
for producing a lovely baby girl.
PRIDE of place must go to the Soest
Garrison Ten Pin Bowling League where
the top three places were won, after a
very closely contested final, by three
RAOC teams. No doubt we will hear
more about it from G Branch (winners)
and 3rd Armoured Division Ordnance
Company (runners up). Ordnance Branch
came a close third. Congratulations to CorporaL Dave Burrel,
W 2 Danny Danvers, Sergeant Rick Delamont, Lance Corporal
Jock McKaig, Mrs Eileen Danvers and Mrs Marilyn Delamont,
who formed the nucleus of the Ordnance Branch Team.
The CRAOC, Lieutenant Colonel David Com well, the
Adjutant, Captain Rick Ginn and the DOWO, WOl Gary
Hawthorne are away jumping out of perfectly serviceable air-
craft in Bavaria, It gets to us all in time. I don't know if
the CRAOC is doing it for fun or if it's a pre-requisite for his
posting to Cyprus,
Our assistant DOWO, W 2 Sam Bartram has taken up
walking. He says it's much healthier and more relaxing than
being a passenger in the office truck driven by Private Steve
du Feu. Credit where credit's due though, Steve du Feu was
awarded ten Brownie points on exercise for almost running over
the S02 Maint, Major Bruce Boulton.
Talking about exercise, the CRAOC exercise Prop Forward
proved to be a success. A point worthy of note was the final
assault on Headquarters RAOC by 3 Armoured Division Ord-
nance Company. The assault was a replica of the charge of the
Light Brigade. During the thirty minute battle, over one
hundred smoke grenades, one thousand rounds, one hundred
thunderflash.es and countless flares were discharged. During the
height of the battle, our Chief Clerk Administration, Sergeant
Barry Brooks, was seen to be making a cup of coffee. Exercise
over, the Adjutant and Lance Corporal Eades are now recover-
ing from their bed sores.
