CORPS VEHICLE
COMPANY
THIS month saw the last of the stock vehicles for this year going
into PES before the winter sets in.
Thus allowing the Company time to embark on a two week
adventure training exercise, Exercise Greenlocksmith in Bavaria.
The advance party lead by Captain Robert Storey and W02
Barney Appleyard set off for Fiissen in the Allegau early on the
Thursday morning, by Sunday morning the camp on a
Bundeswehr training area was almost completed, thus allowing
time for Captain Robert Storey, Corporal Cambell McKay,
Privates Geordie King and Mick Mallek to climb the Alpspitze
Mountain lead by a mountain guide from the Bundeswehr. The
first main party arrived by train on the Monday evening and after
an excellent meal prepared by our two ACC Cooks, Corporal
Bob Ramage and Lance Corporal Vic Russell the main party
settled into camp.
Throughout the first week the unit climbed the Tegelberg
Mountain 1720m, canoed and windsurfed on the Fuggensee, para-
ascended and climbed the Aggenstein Mountain 1998m. Ori
Friday morning the unit played football against the GEB
Artillery Battalion 205 and the afternoon was reserved for sight
seeing at the Schloss Neuschwerstein and Schloss Hohensihwan-
gau just outside the town of Fiissen. Reluctantly the first main
party returned to Bielefeld by rail on Saturday morning. The
second week followed along much the same lines as the first
with the exception of Thursday when the party reached the
summit of the Zugspitze 2963m and indulged in snowball fights
and bob-sleighing on rucksacks. Tt was during the second week
that the OC Major John Cottington and the Comd Sup 7 Lieu-
tenant Colonel Hudson, joined the unit to take part in the
exercise.
The last night of the exercise was concluded with a barbeque.
The exercise was a complete success not only from training
point of view but also from the friendship that was made with
the GEB Artillery Battalion 205. We look forward to return-
ing to Bavaria next year and to the liaison visit by the
Bundeswehr gunners to the Corps Vehicle Company in Bielefeld
early next year. On returning to Bielefeld the Company said
farewell to the CQMS, Staff Sergeant Joe Rodo; it was also fare-
well to Private Mick Burrows. Congratulations go to Lance
Corporal and Mrs Gancarcik on the birth of their daughter
Tara Dee. We welcome Private John Frew who has recently
joined the Company from Blackdown.
On the sporting scene the football team won its first match in
the BAOR minor units cup five nil against Headquarters 20
Brigade and 200 Signal Squadron and some twenty members of
the unit took part in the Bielefeld Marathon—more details next
month.
us when we were duo to move and promptly departed to collect'
stores, he then reappeared ar the new local iun and carried on
working as if nothing had happened. It was also said that
Corpora] Bob Sherwood would need an operation to rernovt
the swivel chair from his back. We never got a smile out f
him; must have been the pressure of work, he seems a 1 J
happier since he received his posting order to Donnington,

Combat Supplies Battalion
THE Battalion Golf Team, led by
our 2IC Major Roger Thomas,
achieved notable success in winning
the 3rd Armoured Division Golf
Cup. 43 RP Company organised an
inter-company speed march com-
petition from Paderborn to Nieheim
which was won by 44 RP Company.
The whole of 43 RP Company also
did the march though in slightly
slower time. Major Pat Fleming, OC 49 RP Company, marched
with them and enjoyed it so much that it is rumoured that lie
is contemplating a company march from Obernkirchen to Pader-
born! No reflection on the MT we are assured.
STORES SECTION 617 TANK TRANSPORTER
WORKSHOP
IT has been fairly quiet on the news front since our last
contribution. The section was deployed (non-tactical) during the
early stages of Exercise Red Claymore, We were located in
a very large bam, much to the joy of Corporal Mick Bland,
who does not like to venture out-side too often.
Our WOIC W 2 Ivan Jones was recently presented with the
Long Service and Good Conduct Medal by Brigadier Skinner in
the Hamm Station WOs and Sergeants Mess,
We say farewell to a stalwart of the section Sergeant Ivan
Sangster on posting to Stores Platoon 22 AD Regiment, con-
gratulations on promotion. We wish him and his family all the
best for the future. We welcome Corporal Bernie Reeby as our
new provision clerk from 154 FAD Wutfen and hope he will
enjoy his tour in Hamm. His settling in time was very brief
as the day after he arrived it was off to join the rest of the
section in the field.
W02 Jones managed to find his hockey kit in time for the
Corps Trials recently held at Dulmen, even though the weather
was not too kind there was quite a good turn-out and having
been notified of his posting to RAOC Cyprus he can be seen
spending his time checking the various routes by which to drive
there.
Lieutenant Colonel Dickinson CO T Combat Supplies Battalion
congratulates Mark Ruddy, son of Staff Sergeant Ruddy, 49 RP
Company, after his attestation into the army.
43 RP COMPANY.
The OC bent to the wishes of the majority
of the Company and agreed that the unit could march from
Paderborn to Nieheim.
This occurred after the Depot had
outloaded in support of Exercise Red Claymore. Each Company
entered a team of eight to race the distance on the same day
and we offer our congratulations to the 44 Company team who
carried oft" the trophy. Major Pat Fleming must also receive an
honourable mention as he came down from the ' sticks 1 for the
event and marched the distance with us.
A day later the Company deployed as an RP on Red
Claymore.
The exercise was a success despite the fact that Major
McCormack dropped himself in the
, literally! And when
he has extricated himself he certainly did not smell of roses.
Lance Corporal Ward won the " Golden Blanket* award and
Captain Ward sported a very natty line in DPM pyjamas! A

WORKSHOP
LANCE CORPORAL GORDON HEEPS, who was our driver,
decided that tyre and oil changes got his hands dirty and he
promptly moved into the warmth and security of the Control
Office, did a bit and went to Blackdown. Then surprised him-
self by passing his B3 Supply Clerk in top position. Now back
in the fold, has been awarded his B2; he has done himself and us
proud.
Then came our Div Exercise and as usual rumour control
was working overtime. Staff Sergeant Dardis was said to have
developed a sixth sense, he knew a couple of hours before any of
