LANCE CORPORAL DALE KENNETH RIDSDALE
MAJOR D. H. SKINNER writes: —
Lance Corporal Kenneth Ridsdale died in the Royal In-
firmary, Sheffield, at 1800 hours on 28th July 1978. His death
marked the end of a year-long illness, borne with great courage
and fortitude: throughout it all he never once complained.
Lance Corporal Ridsdale joined the Army in January 1972 and
served with 3 Division Airhead Company in the United King-
dom and in Northern Ireland. He joined 6 OFP in Menden in
February 1976 and he was promoted to Lance Corporal in
November 1976. He very quickly settled down into the Unit
and his wife and family soon became well known to us all.
Corporal 'Flicker' Ridsdale rapidly achieved prominence in the
Unit football team by his prowess in the goalmouth as the Unit
goal keeper and amply justified his nickname by the dexterity
and skill with which he kept the ball out of the net He was
dedicated and enthusiastic about his career and was even, at
his age, something of an expert on all types of small arms and
not just those of the British Army. We all have our own
memories of Corporal Ridsdale, whether it be his nimble
acro-
v
batics 1 in the goalmouth, his dogged performance on the murder
Mile,' the Unit run; his fervour and enthusiasm in the class-
room or just the jokes, the sense of fun and that ever present
smile; It goes without saying that of course we will all miss
him, but he leaves behind him a lot of laughs and a lot of
merry memories. It is these that we will all cherish. He was
buried at the Parish Church of Carlton in Lindrick on 3rd
August. His funeral was
attended by members of his old Unit
l
The 'Last Post * and Reveille' were played at the graveside by
a bugler from the Depot. Our deepest sympathy goes to
Priscilla, his widow, to his two small children, Jennifer and
Nicola and to his parents.
SERGEANT ROBERT MILLER
MRS S. A. MILLER writes: —
On 2nd May of this year my darling husband's life came
to a sudden and shattering end.
At times like this, true friendship is found and Ordnance
Depot Antwerp abounded with help and support for myself,
my sons and family.
To Lieutenant Colonel Broome and his wife, I send my
sincere thanks for their kindness and friendship.
To WOI J. Shea (RAOC), and Staff Sergeant and Mrs
D. Callan (RCT) for their help and understanding which went
far beyond duty,
To all our many friends, both military and civilian, my
heartfelt thanks for their fine words of tribute to Bob and also
for the very many beautiful floral tributes.
My new address is 22, Snowdon Grove, West Boldon,
Tyne and Wear, NE36 ONW.
