Transcription Sergeant David Van Spall on his Long Service and Good Con-
duct Medal We were pleased that Mrs Van Spall could be at
the presentation which was made by the CRAOC on his
farewell visit.
The OC Supply Depot, Major John Cranmer, ensured that
the appropriate entries were made in the famous Red Visitors
Book so that the signatures would join the many dtgnatories
already in the book and the day properly recorded for posterity,
returned in good spirits full of the delights of sunny Bourne-
mouth,
Brigadier Starling, Deputy Commander South West Dis-
trict, visited the Battalion for the first time .and the Company
put on its full display demonstrating our Arctic Equipment and
the Bakery Section baking, unfortunately not on their Arctic
Bakery Equipment as it is under modification. The Brigadier
(late Parachute) is shown being presented with the Parachute
Regiment cap badge made in unleavened bread by Private Pete
King of the Bakery Section.

IN time with the holiday season life in the
Headquarters has quietened considerably as
everyone has scuttled away on leave. (Some
of us are still waiting for the sun to shine).
This month we bid farewell to W02
Ted Jones who leaves us for civilian life. Ted
has bought a house in Devon and intends to
settle there.
Mr John Jordan the DFA left us in Sep-
tember and was replaced by Mr Titley who
will be with us for a few months. Private
Steven Levett has been posted into the Headquarters to help
the G Staff. Steven has just come from Deepcut.
As our photograph shows, Mr Cyril Dunnett was presented
with the C-in-Cs Commendation in August by the GOC, Major
General Lyon. This was followed by lunch with the Ord-
nance Officers in the Wyvern Officers Mess of the Head-
quarters.
Arrivals: Mr J. A. W. Titley and Private S. Levett,
Departures: W02 E, Jones and Mr A. N. J. Jordan.

M r Cyril Dunnett is presented w i t h the C - i n - C ' s Commendation
by the GOC South W e s t District, Major General Lyon.
Prior to this we had a wives visit to the Company which
went very well. Major David Burden gave a talk to the wives
on the Company role, followed by a walk around the demon-
stration, then tea and buns in the NAAFL The wives now have
an inside view into our unique role in the RAOC, which takes
us away so often to many varying countries.
Exercise Double Whisky at Dibgate camp proved to be
very successful even if the weather tried its hardest to defeat all
our efforts. The Exercise is the Logistic Support Battalion's
(of which the Company is a part) Annual Infantry Exercise,
With the use of the ETR Ranges at Lydd and Hythe we all
managed to classify and find time to complete our BFT as well,
In the march and shoot competition the two Company teams
came second and fourth respectively; a very good result. Even
allowing for the bad weather it was a thoroughly good exercise.
We congratulate Sergeant Ray Burden and Lance Corporal
Jim Farrington on their additions to their families. We also
congratulate Corporal Harry Mills, Lance Corporals John
Aldridge, Chalky White, Tommy Bunting, Privates Colin Pratt
and Jock Anderson on promotion,
We welcome W02 Malin, Staff Sergeants Jenkinson and
Hulse, Sergeants McHoul and Sumner, Corporals Sedgewick,
Woodcock and Tiplady, Privates Baker, Hutt and Newlands.

EXERCISE ACE VENTURE at Tregantle Fort
proved to be very wet to start with rising to
brilliant sunshine and finishing in mist and
gloom.
The sea canoeing took place at a small
permanent camp at Pier Cellars which proved
to be excellent. The group were self sufficient
and everyone turned their hand to unfamiliar
domestic tasks with great success. The main
party in tented accommodation at Tregantle
occupied their time with sailing at Camber located in The
Royal William Yard, sea and fresh water fishing, abseiling and
long day walks. We even managed a morning visit to HMS
Drake to see what the navy has left, which to be fair was a
worthwhile visit.
The POL Section has returned from Exercise Viking Piper
where once again to start with the weather was against us,
but the exercise did terminate in brilliant sunshine. Everyone
managed to get dieso soaked boots at some stage of the exercise
mostly, to be honest, emptying the EOP (Emergency Offtake
Point for the non oily boys) or draining the mainline to make
an alteration to the existing system.

THE football season is very obviously
upon us and two annual events now
firmly established in the Chilwell Calendar
were held during the past week. Both
organised and run by Captain Twitchett
they proved to be thoroughly enjoyable
days,
These are two major six-a-side foot-
ball competitions held on the Garrison
sports field. The first, held last Wednes-
day, was the Dexion Cup competition for
military teams. Twelve teams took part
from all parts of the Depot and Mr Brian Walters, the Executive
Director of Exports for Dexion (who are of course well known
to the Corps), turned up to present the cup.
The competition had been fierce throughout the afternoon
and the standard high. In the end, Bob Robertson one of out

three to one, back to three all and then to win the cup in a
game that was truly exciting and worthy of the final; by a
