HEADQUARTERS
THE Headquarters is slowly showing the inevitable signs of dis-
bandment which has recently been hastened by the retirement of
Major Leslie Marsham.
Major Marsham has achieved a unique entry in the Guinness
Book of Records as being the first Corps officer to be employed
within the Royal Mews. His appointment of Keeper of the
Queen's Horse is so perfect for an officer who has a mutual dis-
like for the animal but adores corgis* Our best wishes go to
Leslie and Juliet in their new life in the Royal Mews and when
we all troop up for our OBE and MBEs and awards for
gallantry we will no doubt find him tending the finest rhubarb
in London.
An intrepid band of Corps Troops (Alpine) recently attended
an adventure training camp in Bavaria where, once the CRAOCs
enthusiasm for short cuts up mountains followed by a quick
coronary was curtailed, a good time was had by all and we
returned fitter, proudly bearing our walking sticks covered with
badges of the mountains climbed and beer houses visited.
Corporal Ken Black continues to bring back trophies from
the many car rallies he enters and to our delight has been
selected for the BAOR team. An excellent achievement in his
first season,
Finally we send our best wishes to Sergeant Mick East on
his exotic posting to the NATO Headquarters in Brussels and
welcome his relief Corporal Steve Williams.
80 SUPPLY DEPOT
OUR limping Orderly Room Clerk, Corporal Mick Bishop, who
has been exempt all physical activity since Exercise Snow Queen,
was eventually admitted into BMH Hannover for the removal
of his cartilage. We are hopeful, that within the next two
weeks, he will be able to join us for our regular sessions of
fitness training. At least, he took advantage of his enforced
rest by successfully passing his E P C
Staff Sergeant Ivan Jones and Sergeant Gurbax Singh have
produced some good performances for the Hannover Station
cricket team which won the 1 Armoured Division Minor Units
competition.
The Officer Commanding attended a Management Develop-
ment Course at the School of Ordnance, and conveniently missed
all the hustle and the bustle of Exercise Summer Sales.
Personnel from the Depot again manned the Coconut Shy
at the Hannover Station Fete and it proved to be a great success
despite several outbreaks of rain during the afternoon. Proceeds
from the fete are to be distributed between German Charities
and the RAOC Aid Society.
Finally Corporal Bishop organised an extremely successful
Depot party at the Gastatte Ohlen in Empelde.
STORES SECTION 5 HEAVY REGIMENT
WORKSHOP
AFTER a thoroughly lung congesting exercise period in dust-
ridden Grafenwohr we are now back in the thoroughly exhilara-
ting air of Hildesheim. However, we are being hard pressed by
our very good friends of REME who have suddenly decided
to demand all those bits and pieces which fell off the guns
during the exercise!
At the moment we are still enjoying the delights of working
summer
hours, from 0730 to 1300, which allows our married
4
pads * more time with their families, especially those with
children home from boarding school, and our two ' livers in *
(Lance Corporal MacDonagh and Private Bolton) more time
for organised sports.
Staff Sergeant Sonny Bicker has now left us and replacing
him is Sergeant Mick Lord. Lance Corporal Paul Prior has
also departed to the labyrinths of Bicester. We wish them all
the very best in the future. We welcome Corporal Bob Bone-
ham and we will soon be saying farewell to Corporal Mick
Wootton who is posted in October on promotion to Sergeant.
Congratulations to Lance Corporal Clive Graham on his
promotion, to Lance Corporal ' Zoomer' Mac Donagh on
passing his motorcycle driving test and to the Ford Motor
Company for eventually finding Sergeant Roy Lancaster a
new car!
Congratulations also to Sergeant 'Big R ' Lancaster on
winning the RAOC (BAOR) hammer throwing event and
creating a new RAOC (BAOR) record with a throw of 38.18
metres.
STORES PLATOON
22 AIR DEFENCE REGIMENT
WORKSHOP
HAVING completed our exercise commitments this year earlier
than normal, the majority of the platoon are presently enjoy-
ing some well deserved leave. On return there is a busy pro-
gramme ahead. Half the Unit will undergo Operation Banner
training for the tour in November with the regiment. The
remainder on rear party will be kept very busy with a planned
modification programme.
We are fortunate in having on the camp an above average
number of sporting facilities including a golf course, swimming
pool and a well stocked fish pond. Corporal Colin Metcalfe
is our resident angling expert. Staff Sergeant Kevin Ashworth
and Sergeant Sammy Samuel have played regularly for the
Regiment and Workshop cricket teams. They made significant
contributions in helping the Workshop to win this years Crafts-
man Cup. Another flourishing sport is table tennis. We recently
k
acquired' a table and Staff Sergeant Kevin Ashworth and
Private Tony Mellor are having a ding dong battle at the top
of the ladder while at the bottom end Privates John Grice and
Pete Hockaday are having their own little ping pong battle.
Lots of comings and goings mainly as a result of changes
in establishment and promotions. We say farewell to Sergeants
Mick Stewart and John Fryer, Lance Corporals Wilson, Cannell,
Laydon, Straw and Private Hodkinson and welcome Corporal
Thompson, Privates Winter, Aubrey, Smith, Watson and Kil-
burn.

G ATR report that Corporals J. Arthur Lehmann •
and Jimmy Kelly coped very well on their first
exercise with the branch. Corporal Paddy Moore
is reputed to have gone out also but few people
saw anything of him! No doubt he was keeping -
a
l°w profile pending his posting to SHAPE (for
those of you who didn't already know?) in the
next few weeks.
We would like to take this
opportunity to wish Paddy and his family all the
very best in his new posting and to thank him for
all his hard work in the branch.
