Transcription very bored if it wasn't for the very noble efforts of Units in
the Hohne Station. Under the guidance of SSO Hohne Units
are organising various activities to keep the children occupied,
our own Depot Superintendent W02 Jim Grant is teaching
children of various ages how to fish and the OC, Major Michael
Cutchey with his stable staff, are teaching would-be Harvey
Smiths which end of the horse is which.
Welcome Sergeant Keith Marshall and family from Devizes
and Corporal Pete Waddington also from Devizes, they both say
the LOA is better here!
Congratulations to Corporal Charlie Cannings on his pro-
motion to Sergeant, he was heard to say it would take him
twelve months to make up the cost of the celebration.

quarters; he may well have felt that it
was by total immersion (in the deep end, that is). However,
he finished the exercise spouting jargon like a seasoned cam-
paigner!
As usual,'the exercise provided a little light relief by allow-
ing us to chuckle at the misfortunes of others. This time the
Chief Clerk, W02 Dave Allport, found himself the constant
centre of unwanted attention. He started by wrenching the gear-
stick of his Land Rover right off its associated gearbox before
we had even reached our first location. He followed this by an
unsuccessful attempt at writing off his vehicle with the aid of a
tree, and completed his hat-trick by breaking down with the
ops trailer in tow. Redemption came with the appearance of a
huge and expertly decorated cake for CRAOCs birthday on
Day 5. It was delicious!
Exercise Summer Sales also saw the appearance of Sergeant
Paul Dyson, the Chief Clerk of our resident Signals Squadron.
He says he enjoyed the break, and can now add teleprinter
operator to his list of occupations.
The recent bombing incidents in BAOR allowed us to show
everyone who happens to read the local newspaper how members
of the RAOC defend barrack areas. The photograph of Lance
Corporal Charlie Welbourn is reproduced by kind permission
of the Lubbecke Tagebiatt.
However, Corporal Dennis
Edmunds assures us that, had the photograph been taken a few
seconds earlier, it would have shown an entirely different
situation; he has drawn a cartoon to illustrate his point.

However, we have to say farewell to W02 Wally Upton,
and also to his wife Jane who has been a typist in the Branch
for the last two years. Thank you for all your hard work,
Jane, and when you've typed these notes, please report to the
Chief Clerks office, where there should be a party waiting
STORES PLATOON
12 ARMOURED
WORKSHOP
DEAR MUM,—We had one of our platoon socials last week-
end and just as we got going with the merriment our OC,
Captain Mike Roycroft, had to say goodbye to two long
standing, or should that be long suffering, members of the
platoon. Private Haggis Harris who is going out and Private
Geordie Knight who is posted to Bracht. We all wish them both
the best of luck,
Sergeant Norman Davison has been doing Mess Caterer
in the Sergeants Mess; I was surprised when I heard it had
nothing to do with cooking! Still, he says he is quite happy
having managed to get himself selected for the RAOC BAOR
cricket team to go to Berlin. With the cricket season still
very much on the go we have a number of the lads playing
in the Workshop side, they are Privates John Logan, Dave
Tressler and Dave Boden. On top of all that we have the
football season looming up and some of our lads, Corporal
Colin Jones, Privates Dave Tressler and Billy Williamson have
had their names put forward for the RAOC BAOR trials. We
hope they get selected.
Sergeant Jim Munday is working hard to get an Orien-
teering team going, he keeps disappearing saying he is going
training but we do wonder. He thinks he should have a team
from the Workshop soon and has managed to persuade Lance
Corporal Taffy Walsh to join the team-
In spite of it looking as though we do nothing but sport,
we are in fact working hard preparing for two Exercises
Certain Shield and Keystone Charlie and that keeps us all
very busy, Your Son Charlie.

help from the local
American populace). It was sportingly ended in a draw, though
the Storeshed is still trying to claim victory over the combined
efforts of the MT and Orderly Room. We all realise now why
Sunray wanted specifically to play Soft Ball, and not a decent
game like rugby (even though it is out of season), he was the
only member of both teams to make a clear round! Following
an extremely hot afternoon's play we held a ' Cookout * at
Winterboume Barracks, home of 87 Supply Depot (thank you
gentlemen), where we erected all kinds of wierd and wonderful
things. Thank you to the hoards who helped, also special
thanks to W02 Paddy Starrett, Lance Corporals Alan Ashcroft

what our cartoonist Corporal Dennis Edmunds thinks!
We welcome this month W02 Peter Jackson and Lance
Corporal Chris Rhodes on their arrivals from the Hebrides
and Deepcut respectively. Congratulations go to WO I Alan
Pedley and Sergeant John Scott on their promotions. John has
