Transcription the night by introducing one or two unscheduled games, for
which his members had received secret training—we believe.
The one hundredth run of the Donnington Hash took
place on 19th September 1978, over a course laid by Joint
Masters, Lieutenant Colonel David Parker and Mr Nobby
Stiles, near to the village of Rowton. Over one hundred mem-
bers ran and attended the barbeque and disco which followed
the hash, in a local bam, suitably cleaned out, whitewashed
and furnished, including dance floor. Great credit goes to
Lieutenant Colonel Stan England REME, the 'On Sec' of the
Hash for his detailed Admin Instruction, worthy of any Staff
College DS. Also thanks to Staff Sergeant John Jones ACC,
and cooks, WOI Tony Johnson the barman, Major Bill Woods
REME, Stores Co-ord, Staff Sergeant John Jones RMP, who
laid out and recovered all furnishings and finally Sergeant Don
Merchant for the transport. In two years the hash has grown
from the first ever run of some seven members to an average
now of fifty each week.

Central Ordnance Depot Bicester
SEPTEMBER marked the departure of
Brigadier Page from Bicester and the
arrival of Brigadier Cooke. Brigadier
Page was given the traditional send off,
with the help of the Bicester Military
Railway of which he was very fond.
He retired on 30th September to take
up an appointment with International
Computers Limited. Bicester officers
are now busily putting away their run-
ning shorts and dusting off their sou*
westers.
Brigadier Cooke had no sooner
touched base when he was host to the DGOS, Major General
Callan. This proved to be a most successful and worthwhile
day culminating in a Regimental Guest Night in the Officers
Mess.

Brigadier Short and his wife Tony after the one hundredth run
of the Donnington Hash.
Our annual shark fishing adventure training Exercise Mini
Jaws took place in Falmouth, Cornwall for two weeks. Once
again we used Mr Bishop's field as our camp site, and the
slope of the field ensured the rain ran through the tents, rather
than remain inside them. Each' week had two days deep sea
fishing with that intrepid ' Captain * Nigel Hunt in his boat
White Heather. Sharks were conspicuous by their absence,
but SQNfS Quinney caught a nice conger on his first day. Non
fishing days were spent visiting places of interest, Lands End,
Mount St Michael, the Cornish Sealing, an Army Motor Museum
and a Tin Mine.
Captain Colin Buckle organised a walk on the lines of the
German ' Volkslaufen ' a first timer in Donnington. Participants,
military and civilian, were given the chance of walking five,
eight, ten or fifteen miles along set routes, over country tracks
and roads, and were presented with a certificate after a success-
ful walk. At the end of the day £42 was given to SSAFA.
There will be another one.
Major John Ridding and Staff Sergeant Reg Ledingham
arranged a very successful six-a-side football competition for
Army Units of West Midland and Wales Districts. Needless to
say Donnington won the competition, beating 22 SAS in the
final four nil. W02 Bede Welsh and our team are congratulated
on their win and we wish them good luck for the season.

• Welcome back from hospital Major Fred Minchington,
our very popular Garrison Adjutant. He will be dining out for
many months on the stories of his experiences whilst in RAF
Haltom
On the 29th September we had another Royal visitor to
Bicester. This time it was the turn of the Royal Pioneer Corps
who entertained their Colonel-in-Chief, Prince Richard, Duke
of Gloucester.
16 BATTALION
THE leave season is now behind us and there is frantic activity
on the exercise front. All soldiers are involved in either regi-
mental and adventurous training at Penhale in Cornwall or
preparing for Shadow Unit training in BAOR over the next
few weeks. Reports from Penhale indicate that all is well
and it is proving so popular that some soldiers and WRAC
girls are loathe to return after their two weeks training! Battalion
officers are also involved as detachment commanders and Lieu-
tenant Peter McGhie and Second Lieutenant Caroline Paxton
are involved in adventurous training for the whole of the
period Major Andy Robertson is also putting would-be sailors
through their paces and, no doubt, further reports on all Penhale
activity will be available in our next notes.
Welcome to Sergeants Hopkinson, Davis, Robinson,
W/Sergeant Robertson, Corporal Farant, Lance Corporal
Thomas, Privates Penfold, Ryan, Hardy, Print, Elstud and
W/Private Locke.
