Transcription Sheer lack of time precludes further research into happen-
ings within the Unit so we will end on a note of quiet and
ceremonial camaraderie—the presentation of the Long Service
and Good Conduct Medal to Corporal Keith White, Before
possibly ihe largest gathering we'll see this side of the closure
the CO presided over a warm hearted investiture in the Ayrshire
Bull where the post ceremony chat was full of lump in throat
nostalgia. However, in exploring Corporal White's early days
at 17 RVD in the sixties some hilarious tales emerged which
probably left the present generation thankful that the modern
Vehicle Specialist is a little more sedate than his predecessors,

89 SUPPLY DEPOT
BEING a small Unit, a quarterly contribution to THE GAZETTE
notes is all that is felt justified, however, small as we are we do
feel we have something to contribute.
The past period being no exception, the highlight of which
without a doubt was the presentation of the Long Service
and Good Conduct Medal to two of our stalwarts, W02 Ken
Maullin and Sergeant Tom Kelly. The presentation was made
in the 89 Club (which I hasten to assure all ex-members of the
Unit, is stilj going strong) by our CRAOC, Lieutenant Colonel
Paul Vickery,
Summer holidays of course have come and gone and the Depot
Staff, on returning to duty from trips all over Europe, dis-
covered that they were expected to drag their reluctant bodies
around the BE Course, Most succeeded in passing it, although a
few like Staff Sergeant Barry Campbell and Corporal Jim
Richardson just made it with their last gasp of breath, better
however than the failures, Corporal' Scouse' Mynes who reckons
he was fiddled on the time and of course the Depot Superin-
tendent, W02 Ken Maullin, who although not quite completing
the course, did manage to stagger as far as the Sergeants Mess
before collapsing into his favourite armchair.
Within the next two months we lose our OC» Major
Baldwin, our Chief Clerk, Staff Sergeant Ian Benson; the
CQMS, Staff Sergeant Les Petrie and that stalwart from the
Butchery, Corporal ' I d i ' Armin. Our best wishes go with
them all for their future happiness and prosperity in their new
careen.

STORES SECTION WILLICH WORKSHOP
CORPORAL ROBERTS has once again upheld the good name
of the Stores Section by supporting RMA Sandhurst on Exercise
Eifel Tower at Vogelsang. By all accounts his efforts proved
successful as all vehicles were roadworthy on completion of the
exercise.
Shooting is the most popular of all sports in the Stores
Section. Credit must go to our team for a fine effort in
*

achieving * Runners U p ' spot in the Home Cup. Also, very
happy notes can be heard when Range days are over in the
theme tune of ' We Are The Champions/
Sergeant Waller has returned
from a very enjoyable holiday
l
in Italy. Latest comment is Heard of the Godfather." Well, he
has attempted to bring Mania Rule to the Stores Section. Un-
fortunately, we do not agree with Alphonso (Bob) in his new
mood, but we do agree that, for his fishing potential, spaghetti
may prove to be a very good form of bait.
At last these potential drivers have been caught up with.
Tick Tests don't mean what they say but the best of luck to
both Bob's in their forthcoming written examinations for BFG
licences. If successful BFG might
then feel safe.

The last edition of the Supply Management Information
Bulletin' has brought notes of comfort to W02 Caldwell by
stating that the position in respect of bagpipe spare parts have
greatly improved.
Finally, for the benefit of past serving members of the
Stores Section a decision has been made in respect of the move,
Visitors will be most welcome in the future providing they bring
their own bag of cement.

Wulfen Station
THE year planner is dotted with red
marks showing where visits and exercises
have been and the Summer is over but
the activity does not look any different
from now until Christmas, and that thank
goodness is what it's all about.
Writing about the coming winter
months, WATS, the Station Amateur
Theatrical Society, met recently to plan
something for the coming season, hope-
rr'*-
fully to be produced in December- We
also hope that they will put on another production for early next
year as well
The ladies' keep fit has started again now the children are
back at school and if that is not enough it is hoped to reform
the ladies hockey team. W02 Len Grey has volunteered to
manage-them if that word can be applied to ladies.
German language for beginners is also starting shortly. This
will take the form of a class followed by an evening Anglo-
German Club, and we look forward to cementing the already
good relations with its local Wulfen people.
The Station wives club also met recently to plan the
coming Winter programme and are starting with a talk about
BFES and a visit to Recklinghausen, a neighbouring town.
Lots of wool has been sold by the club to match the future
patter of tiny feet There seems to be a local population ex-
plosion about January. What was the weather like last Easter?
The 1st Wulfen Cub Scout Pack have recently lost some of
their leaders as Corporal and Mrs Dot Ailwood left for
Bielefeld, The gap has now been very ably filled by Private
Alan Lovage.
The Wulfen Gun Club went to Leverkursen/Mulheim to
take part in a .22 shooting competition. It is with pride that
Mr Brian Harkins tells me of a clean sweep victory for the
Wulfen team. They won the first, second open and first military
competitions. They also took the first, second and third in-
dividual overall highest score. On the rugby scene Major Wes
Thomas with the aid of Sergeant Tom Gilmartin arranged and
ran a seven-a-side rugby tournament last week between Depart-
ments of Wulfen Station. Eight teams turned out including
a team from 1 (BR) Corps Vehicle Company and a good after-
noon was had by all. Apart from multiple bruises the only
accident was a broken ankle. Private Alec Gurmin from FVD
is still at BMH Munster recovering. The man of the match, or
should we say the OLD man of the match, the notorious Noddy
Nagle, pleasantly surprised us all with his skill and would you
believe speed? A special mention should also be given to the
team who nick-named themselves the mis-fits. Consisting of:
Corporals Eric Gibson and Frank Crowther, Lance Corporals
Mel Short, Marty Johnson, Mick Lincoln and Shaggy Shadbolt
and Privates ' J C ' Campbell and Spud Saunders.
They actually got through to the semi finals! The overall
winners were the Ammo Wing team captained by the notorious
old man himself.
We say farewell to our beloved SSM Brian Hosband and
his wife Sue and the boys.
