49 RP COMPANY
FAR from being a quiet period the last two months have been
quite hectic. Captain Taylorson alias ' Lawrence of Arabia'
left our petroleum platoon for a punishment tour in England.
^ e understand he is now engaged and our best wishes go with
him. W02 Tannock also departed leaving chaos in the Unit
Jesses where the Company chorused the next day * Never
again.' Our wives and girlfriends quite rightly retorted * Serves
you all right* The new CSM, W02 Moffat, is now busy re-
building our decimated ranks,
The soccer team under the enthusiastic example and leader-
ship of Private Rickie Clyde is winning every match and the
team look good in their brand new Company colours. Top
goal scorers are Clyde Lance Corporal Mickey Weir and Private
Phil Reynolds. Meanwhile the rugby team led by our New
Zealander, Captain Hitehings, is moving from strength to
strength. The team colours of black and blue seem apt as in
the third match the OC was carted off with broken ribs after
scoring the teams first try of the season. PT should be less
exhausting for a while. Mind you he still moans all day but it is
only because he cannot try out his new parachute.
J
Sergeant Bill McSeveny our ACC representative keeps
escaping on adventure training to Bavaria with all the Unit
rations and has brought back four fat and smug looking
soldiers. He is off again to Denmark on the pretext of watch-
ing a game of soccer in Copenhagen!
Staff Sergeant Geordie Symons and the Petroleum Platoon
are never here. They are always away taking things easy on
exercise and are reputed to keep saying "We've never 'ad it so
good." We all reckon they were volunteered. Staff is acting
as Platoon Commander and it is thought to have gone to his
head. Mind you, they can put on a good display of over-
turned petrol tankers for visiting senior officers,
The culmination of recent events however must be the
arrival of the Company's first Obernkirchen Baby. Weighing
in at eight pounds two ounces on 8th September we increased
our ration strength by one baby boy, Dwight Hindle. Dwight
is our * First Fortyniner' and son of Lance Corporal and Mrs
Hindle. Well done mum and dad, but you shouldn't have
called him D. D, Hindle after our new role as a Div Dump
Company.
Life still continues in a humorous pattern and the Com-
pany is kept cheerful by the pranksters Corporals Geordie
Hetherington and Jim Whitehead. They swear that it is never
them but always Corporal Bunn of the REME stable.
Early in September a group of men from the Company
entered a forty two kilometre (twenty seven mile) run and
march, held at Alterath near Koeln. Each member of the five
man team completed the long trek and are 1 to be congratulated
on their efforts. Our team of 'Foot Sore heros were Lance
Corporals Scouse Waddell and Scouse Ditchfield, Privates
Scouse Taylor, Dick Spence and Chass Sloan.
Congratulations to Captain Ian Jones, Privates Adams,
Bache and Stevens on their respective marriages.
Arrivals: welcome to Major Lampard, Captain Laceby,
Captain Wood, Lieutenant Clarkson, W02 Moffatt, Sergeant
Anderson, Corporals Edgeworth, Gritton and Palmer and
Privates Chapman, Dwyer, Hayward, Hitchings, Port and
Smith.

CORPS STORES COMPANY
RICHMOND BARRACKS is one of the largest building com-
plexes in Bielefeld. Its echoing courtyards have reflected the
various military sounds over years of British occupation. It
*s also a building which attracts rumour. One such is that
there are bodies sealed into undiscovered rooms in the cellars
which run into maze like profusion underneath us. Another
is that Stores Company never leave barracks. Untrue! During
July we combined our field training with the members of
51 (V) Company (Glasgow) as a work up for Exercise Summer
Sales. It still amazes us that these volunteer soldiers, with full
time jobs and families, can afford enough time to become as
military proficient as they obviously are. In August we de-
ployed for two weeks with the Vehicle and Ordnance Com-
panies. It was during this Exercise that Lieutenant Colonel
Man, WOl Dobson and CSM Hulston were invited to enjoy
a breakfast shoot with the local Graf (Squire). One shotgun, a
Belgian FN, cost more than £1,000 some years ago!
The social event of the period (and subject of our photo-
graph) was the presentation by Brigadier Whalley of a Long
Service and Good Conduct Medal as well as two twenty five
year certificates. The recipients were Sergeant Webster (our
cook), Mr Ted Rogers and Herr Franz Weih who share sixty five
years service between them.

STORES PLATOON CORPS TROOPS WORKSHOP
THE two main highlights of August are the return of our Op
Banner contingent. Welcome back lads, nice to see you all
after a safe tour.
The second being the capture of the Unit Inter-Platoon
sports cup. This event is spread over a month and consists of:
' Sevens Rugby-Volley ball March and Shoot-Log Race-Tug-of-
War-Stretcher Race and Relay. Our team consisted of ten
stalwarts and gained three firsts, one second, two thirds and a
fifth place. All winners received plaques and the trophy was
duly wet by all. When you consider the strength of other
Workshop Platoons it is quite an achievement.
Congratulations to Private Spud and Jan Murphy on the
safe birth of their first child, this was also celebrated!
Condolences must be passed to Private Andy David still in
BMH after a fall? during the Op Banner party. Still he's
managed to miss the exercises.
Of the recent bomb incidents in BAOR we had the biggest
