competitors, in particular Corporal Halton, Lieutenant Wickharn.
Private Grimsley and WOl Haslam.
The Cross Country Team is unfortunately finding their
task difficult against the RAF teams. We are told the difference
between running for coaches and Phantoms may have some-
thing to do with it.
Army School of Ammunition
THE highlight of the month was undoubtedly the attendance, at
the Army School of Ammunition, of six Turkish Policemen,
accompanied by two interpreters. They underwent a three week
1ED Course and appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves. W02
Greathead, stage name McGalpine, is now in a position to
offer, at greatly reduced prices, a complete and rare set of a first
and only edition, ' Geordi to Turkish/ dictionaries.
The Quarter Guard, from left to right, Sergeant Gill, Private
Hoare* Private Curcton, Private Jackson, Lance Corporal Vale,
Lance Corporal Hendricks, Private Storey and Corporal Fallon.
an Army reserve and we hope that he makes the Army team in
the near future.
Our Shadow Units have spent two weeks in BAOR and
thoroughly enjoyed the break from routine, in particular the
' duty free' and LOA. I have not been fed any funny stories
yet but they will probably filter through before next month.
Major Gordon Pritchard has retired after five years in
Donnington. He has moved over to an RO appointment as
Garrison Adjutant, replacing Colonel Ken Bullock, who has
moved sideways to replace Lieutenant Colonel Ted Lord as
OIC Mob Planning.
Lieutenant Colonel Ted has at last
gone out to pasture, and we wish him well.
Arrivals: WOl Scott, W02 Seaby, Staff Sergeants Last and
Williams, Corporal Westman, Lance Corporal Quinnell, Privates
Blackburn and Hanbury.
Congratulations to WOs Coulton and Quinney on their
promotion to WOl.
The DGOS talks to a group of Turkish policemen through *
Turkish interpreter during a visit to the Army School of
Ammunition, The group was attending a course at the School
accompanied by two interpreters.
Central Ammunition Depot Kineton
There has been a period of great activity from TD and C
Branch with Captains Doug Doherty and Doug Hewitt travelling
the length and breadth of the ' AT World,' collecting duty free
produce and talking to as many ATs as possible, in preparation
for an AT employment analysis. Staff Sergeant Jim Howe
has just spent a couple of days on a course at the Royal School
of Artillery and Staff Sergeant Dave Crocombe is currently at-
tending a Radiology Course at Harefield.
We have enjoyed the company of and said farewell to
No. 33 Basic Ordnance Officers Course and No. 73 Supply
Specialists Course.
We have bid farewell to Captain Mike Coldrick and W02
John Lawrence both of whom have left to take up appoint-
ments in Northern Ireland Our congratulations on their
promotion to Major and WOl respectively and we hope that
John Lawrence will now be more discerning, as to where he
gets his chocolate. We welcome into the School Captain Lew
Bean, who has transferred from the ATO Course onto the
School staff. We wish him and his family a pleasant and happy
stay.
OCTOBER on the whole, has been a
quiet month for Kineton, highlighted by
the visit of the DGOS accompanied by
Mrs Call an. The General toured the
Depot and took time to chat to all ranks
showing immense interest in their
opinions. We hope that they found their
visit both enjoyable and informative.
MT has been finding this a month of
high activity with PRE during the latter
two weeks. Vehicles now shine on the
inside, outside and under the bonnet. Luckily by chance the
MTO caught a newly arrived driver being a touch over-en-
thusiastic and polishing the brake shoes—but only just in time!
Before we move to the sporting scene we must not forget
the anniversary of the Battle of Edgehill, the first major battle
of the Civil War. The Sealed Knot held their annual memorial
service by the monument which proved to be a highly colourful
parade. This year however, Lieutenant Colonel Chris Hendy
did not lead his officers and their wives into Graveyard Copse
on the hallowed night We can only be led to believe that it
had something to do with the Commandants shoot—or did it?!
With most winter sports underway we first turn to rugby
where the Ironsides RUFC are now five games into the season
and four victories to their credit. The loss being a narrow
defeat twenty to eighteen against RAF Hereford. They are to
be congratulated on their nine to three win over Warwick
University, who the week before beat Oxford in the Varsity
League. Congratulations on the excellent record, we hope it is
maintained.
The soccer team isn't fairing too well as of late but with
additional training on the way all is not yet lost.
Unfortunately the former Corps swimming champions (1977)
CAD Kineton, were unable to repeat their 1977 success and
with a scratch side in the nick of time acquitted themselves ad-
mirably by finishing fourth in the team competition and second
in the Chain of Command Relay Event. Well done to all
Central Ammunition Depot Longtown
WE have been busy this past month carrying out a mobilisation
exercise from which we learned some very valuable lessons.
During Exercise Scrum Half we had the pleasure of a Company
of 1st Gordons and 4 KOB (V) who came to protect us.^ The
' Jocks * advance party arrived with the immortal words " We u
sleep here, eat there, and whaurs the fitba ground."
We sadly say farewell to Major Tom Wharton (Retd) who
has been our OTC Admin for a number of years* We wish him
well in his retirement and hope that he and his wife Marion
will continue to keep in touch. We welcome Lieutenant Colons*
H. Dickinson (Retd) who has taken over as OIC Admin and
hope he enjoys his stay with us.
Congratulations to Corporal Sterland on his success m
Army Swimming Championship events.
