Transcription Hockey: The unit entered two teams in the Eastern District
six-a-side competition, but without success. In the Bari Cup
we won our first match against CAD Longtown 3—1 and then
lost to CAD Bramley, the eventual winners, 1—0. This entitled
us to a semi-final match against the Training Centre A team
in the shield competition. Again we lost 1—0 to the eventual
winners.
Small bore: The unit entered teams in the Eastern Com-
mand Edmunds Trophy and the NSRA Regular Army m a t c h -
results are still awaited.
Boxing: Pte. Hamilton took part in the 3 Div individual
boxing competition and was narrowly beaten in the semi-final
by the eventual winner of the featherweight class.
Football: Our present position in the league (not FA!) is
3rd from results to hand, but final placings will not be known
until mid-April.
Out: Cpl. Clifford (3 Div Airhead Ord Coy), Pte. Edwards
(El Adem) and Pte. Howatt (49 Sup Coy BAOR).
In: Sgt. Williams (154 FAD) and Cpl. Robinson (MCTC
staff).
Promotions: A/S/Sgt. Storrie, Sgt. Rowthorn and Cpl.
Gooda (REME).
HQ 24 INF BDE: March seems to have proved us all much
better exercisers than we were in February. The setting up of
our cell in the field takes half the time it used to, but still
provides us with excellent entertainment.
Major D, Evans attended an ADP aptitude test in London
recently. He returned talking digital language. Capt. J. F. F.
Sharland, our S/Capt Ord, has been extremely busy master-
minding a new NARAT form which he hopes will be used on
exercises. The Clerks support his hopes as they seem to be
doing nothing but typing drafts.
We say goodbye "to Pte. D. A. Robb, known to us all as
The Scotsman. He has been posted to 24 OFP; unfortunately
it is only four miles away. His replacement is Pte, P. G. Beatty,
a Geordie; we notice that he was quick to take over The Scots-
man's fiddle—the coffee fund. Cpl F. T. Bowes, DADOS Clerk,
has just purchased a house in Plymouth and we wish him and his
wife future happiness in their new home. L/Cpl. J. Read, one
of our G Clerks, has just named the ' big d a y ' and we wish
them both the best of luck.
The BOWO, Cdr. R. A. Saville, has recently purchased a
new Hillman Imp and suffers under sarcastic remarks which
appear to come from the S/Capt. Ord—a Triumph owner.
On the AQ side we have Sgt. M. Tyler and supporting him
are Pte. J. Davidson and L / C p l C Payne. All we can say
about them is, keep up the good work, otherwise the DADOS
staff might have to do some.
G Branch is, as usual, working extremely hard preparing
SOPs and devising exercises. Sgt. E. Pluck has obtained some
new spectacles and can at last see where he is going. L/Cpl.
G. Smith, our rugby player, is now fully recovered from laryn-
gitis after having spent ten days in hospital.
Last, but not least, we have our Chief Clerk, SSM G, T.
Chalmers. He has aged somewhat due to his battle against the
stationery store scroungers. May the best man win.
24 OFP: The last month has consisted of training and yet more
training. First of all came Ex St Machar which deployed all the
admin units of 24 Bde for the first time. The BMA was laid
out and the remainder of the Brigade were given a conducted
tour. The OFP created a minor sensation and brought favour-
able comments from both the GOC and Bde Cornd as the unit
went underground! I hasten to add that it was not dug in but
was laid out along an old, sunken road, roofed in with tar-
paulins, supported on poles and then camouflaged.
Next came Ex Red Rover. The CRAOC's training directive
called for a long road move and movement into a location at
night. Red Rover consisted of a drive .from Plymouth to a
location behind the School of Ordnance. What a welcome Deep-
cut gave us! Down came the snow, and even the ex-BAOR
members of the unit agreed that it was cold. Despite the
weather everyone remained in good heart.
Ex Budshead ends today, another BMA exercise on Dart-
moor. Members of this unit now find it hard to understand
why people actually travel long distances to look at this bleak,
windy and unwelcoming National Park.
Atls and dets: L/Cpl. Freeman recently returned from
Wales where he and his bath trailer kept 47 Lt Regt RA clean
during their practice camp, Lt. Andrews and Cpl. Oakden have
left for the Far East on exercise. Cpl. Clarkson is running a
mini supply point at Oakhampton battle camp. Pte. Wathen has
just returned from a long attachment to 1 RWF. Ptes. Beatty
and Robb have swapped jobs—Robb to PC and A and Beatty
to DADOS 24 Bde.
Congratulations to: Ptes. Adlam, Richardson. Stott and
Bennett on promotion to L/Cpl.
Footnote: This has been a very unusual month for 24 OFP;
Pte. Docherty neither drove into anything nor was he driven
into!
STORES SECT 15 INF WKSP: We now have almost all our
personnel on strength, although some will be leaving us shortly
due lo a change in establishment. Office accommodation is still
cramped, but it should not be long now before we move into
our new offices. Then * Q' Sutton and his merry men can settle
down and get the office sorted out.
Ptes. Williams and Ridings are taking part in the RAOC
Individual Boxing Championships at Bicester on 25th April and
we wish them luck,
Welcome to: S/Sgt. Fenwick, Cpls. Garner and Crawford,
L/Cpls. Skone, Chilcott and Croome, Ptes. Williams, Lenton,
Molloy, Ridings, Allan. McDonald and Reed.
Congratulations to: Sgt. Fenwick on his promotion to S/Sgt.
10 Ord Maint Park
HQ: This month has seen the arrival of the new Commanding
Officer, Lt.-Colonel R. Bateson, who, having forsaken the cider
groves (see April issue), is now residing in Tidworth with divers
birds and bees up the chimney,
During Easter weekend Sgt, Collinson of the Ldy PI took a
Bath Section to Westminster Pier to cleanse the incoming
canoeists from Devizes. This seemed to work alright, for no
complaints of the Westminster County Hall being flooded with
soapy water have so far been received. On the subject of the
Ldy PI, we wish to welcome Lt. L. W. Wynn as its OC and
S/Sgt. Nonas, the big-wheel-to-be.
Sgts. Rapinett and Hargate (732 Bulk Stores PI) together
with the Platoon spent a week or so in Bicester taking over a
stores scaling for AMF(L), whilst SQMS Parsonage and his
145 Veh PI spent a day at FVRDE playing about with Volvo
Sno-cats. This is another 10 OMP toy.
But the real highlight of the month of April was the actual
opening of 10 OMP proper. This happened on the 9th and
was a day devoted on the one hand to presenting the various
aspects of 10 OMP to the Army Strategic Command, and on
the other to allow 10 OMP members to get to know one another.
The DDOS Army Strategic Command, Brigadier A. R. Cornock,
introduced the new unit to members of the Command and
throughout the day the audience marvelled at the delights to be
experienced in laundries, baths, bakeries, petrol tanks, fork
lift trucks, cartons of compo, boxes of batteries, parts of
vehicles, stacks of shot and what resourceful locals are capable
(or not capable) of providing.
48 COMPANY:
During March our new sub-units have grown
in numbers and are now virtually complete in personnel.
In early April we supplied at short notice personnel for
another exercise in the Far East. So far we have had no details
of their task.
Our Company soccer team, which has not had a happy
season, has reached the semi-final of the East Wilts Minor
Units Cup. We wish them every success.
47 COMPANY:
There have been no arrivals since we last went
to press, although Cpl. Bushell will be a very welcome addition
to the flock when he arrives on 22nd April. The OC has now
moved office and no longer has to write letters to himself, as
Lt. M. A. Weeden has assumed command of 112 Pet Filling PI.
A very enjoyable day was spent by the Officers and Senior
NCOs at 10 OMP study day held on 9th April.
We had a very welcome visit from our new DOS, Major
General A. Young, on 17th April. He was briefed on the role
and capabilities of the Coy and sub-units by the OC and two
Petroleum Platoon Comds. This was followed by a demon-
stration of petroleum equipment given by 112 Pet Filling PI.
112 Pet Filling PI: We are having a fairly quiet time, just
the usual round of exercises and training to keep us busy, as
always.
We say hello to Cpl. Cocks and Pte. Holmes and goodbye
to Ptes. Mulvey and Schneider on posting to the outside world.
35 Pet Bulk Op PI: The Platoon is now under the tender
mercies of the new 47 Coy, but remain in their present location
at West Moors.
The 2IC and eight members of the Platoon are now enjoy-
ing the sun on Ex Picot in Malaya,
We welcome L/Cpl. Brayshaw and family on posting from
49 Sup Coy.
