ADOS (AIR) BRANCH: At the beginning of March one of our
typists. Mrs Domoney. left us when she and her husband
emigrated to Rhodesia. In her place we welcomed Mrs. Lisle,
who hud just settled in and started to learn our strange cries
when our other typist, Miss Pam Hendry, disappeared for two
weeks with chickenpox. Mr. Topps. from our progress cell, left
us early in April and moved over to Aircraft Servicing Branch,
where he is now running the technical library. A new arrival,
Mr. Forrester, took the vacant chair in the progress cell. He
and Mr, Nicholson have now been joined by Mrs. Holland,
who has handed over the usage account to another new arrival,
Mr. Phillips.
Major John Mears spent the last two weeks of March with
us, and we hope he picked up some useful tips to help him in
his appointment as the new DADOS (Air) in FARELF.
Since our last report we have had a further visit from F/Lt.
Copestake and his review team from the RAF Central Servicing
and Development Establishment
We and the Stores Section
were questioned closely on procedures used in the supply of
aircraft spares. The visit was all part of a general investigation
between the RAF and ourselves to check that we fully under-
stand the RAF system of provisioning and that the RAF under-
stand how Army Aviation is deployed and the system for feed-
ing the spares forward through RAOC storeholding units from
the MU to the aircraft. All the detailed information gained by
the review team will be fed into the Provision Branches at
Harrogate.
Major Stuart Rooke paid us a welcome visit from MOD.
We suspect it will be the first of many, for he has just taken up
a newly created appointment in the QMG's Branch, where he
will have direct Q Staff responsibilities for Army Aviation
matters.
RAOC STUDENT PILOTS: Sgt. Laine, on 199 Course, has
finished his elementary fixed wing training and is now learning
to fly a Hiller helicopter in Basic Rotary Flight. S/Sgt. New-
land was with him, but we have just heard that the intricacies of
flying a helicopter have proved too much and that he has been
withdrawn from the course. Lt. David Hourahane has arrived
and is now on 201 Course and has gone solo. Our photograph
shows him by a Chipmunk,

PHOTO SECTION:
'Business as usual' was a notice very
frequently seen in blown-out windows of shops, restaurants and
other establishments during the Battle of Britain days.
The scene now around the Photographic Section is reminis-
cent of those days, but instead of the scream and thud of bombs
it is the scream and thud of hand and pneumatic hammers,
bricks and mortar. The builders have moved in with us. Any
curses heard in the area are not for Hermann Goering and his
crews, but for torn fingers and bruised heads!
Aircraft Servicing Branch and ADOS (Air) Branch have
both moved, leaving us to carry on alone. We only have two
rooms, in which temporary sinks and work benches have been
put. and our telephone line has been cut four times this week.
Mr. Clements, our civilian photographer, tells us that there
must be some clause in Civilian Staff Regulations under which
he can appeal against such treatment, but even with our help
he has so far failed to produce such legal protection for us.
However, we have overcome all difficulties and, providing the
postman can get in and out, we still despatch our prints on time.
We are expecting L/Cpl. Dagnell back next month from
his attachment to 24 Bde. In case he reads this report, we would
like, of course, to confirm we are joking—just.
Cpl. Vranch is eagerly awaiting the results of his ACE I
exam and, with the help of DADOS (Air), is now trying to
remember to attend an RPC course.
STORES SECT 70 AC WKSP: During the past month we have
had a great deal of movement of personnel to and from the
Section. We have said farewell to Sgt. Colin Coles, our Pro-
vision Sgt, Cpl. Freeloye from the storehouse, L/Cpl. Quick
from the AOG cell, who are all leaving the Service for the
rigours of civvy street, and to Pte. Chew, our Landrover driver,
who has departed for the sunshine of the Persian Gulf. We wish
those leaving the Service every success in their new vocations
and hope that they may find time to visit us at some future
date,
We have welcomed to the Section Sgt. Lee from North
Africa, Cpl. Campbell from H Q S o u t h c o , Cpl. Clements from
Singapore and L/Cpl. Garratt from the Persian Gulf. Sgts.
Wilson and Higgs have returned from Norway at the end of
Ex HardfalL and the MSRD is now being prepared for several
exercises in the near future.
In the sporting world, Sgt. Higgs, Cpls. Murray and
Chambers and L/Cpl. Heath are still lending their support to
the Wksp football team and Cpl. Rumney is still very busy as
the rugby representative for both the Wksp and the School of
Army Aviation. SSM Kirkpatrick has taken his stick down
from the wall and is once again treading the hockey field with
L/Cpl. Learmonth, our other ' hockeyist.' The smell of embroca-
tion is much in evidence on Thursday mornings. In the not so
energetic sports SSM Kirkpatrick, S/Sgt. King and Cpl.
Chambers are reported to be terrorising the darts players of the
Andover area.
