Transcription REGIMENTAL
WING: The exercise season is with us, and
Major Charles Smith is in charge of our activities under field
conditions. S/Sg*t. Hanton, our marksman, has been awarded
the NSRA silver medal for 1967/8. He has now left for Singa-
pore and we wish him and his family a good tour.
Postings in and out are many and various; we wish all of
those concerned happiness and success in their new environ-
ments.
LATE NEWS: A special service is to be held at the Chilwell
Memorial on 30th June at 11 am to commemorate the 50th
anniversary of the shell filling factory explosion. A plaque
will be unveiled by a senior member of the Government and
the RAOC Staff Band will be in attendance. Spectators will be
welcome.
CAD Kineton
SHOOTING: Our first mention this month must be of the
RAOC Rifle Association Small Bore Challenge Cup, which
Kineton won for the first time ever. The team was: S/Sgt
Ryan, Cpl. Glasby, L/Cpl. Ramsey, Cpl. Bennett and Cdr.
Mills. The Cup will be presented at the RAOC Association
Dinner at Birmingham on 27th April.
S/Sgt. Walker kindly presented the .22 ladies shooting club
with two silver cups. These could not have arrived at a more
propitious time, all ladies having agreed to forego pool winnings
to boost our ammo fund, which was practically broke! This
week's results were: Authentic targets, 1st—Mrs. Pat Clarke,
2nd—Mrs. Ruth Martin, 3rd—Mrs. Pamela Jarmain; Animal
targets. 1st—Mrs. Val Callaghan, 2nd—Mrs. Ruth Martin, 3rd—
Miss Carol Martin (typing pool),
Football: The unit was placed 4th in the West Midland
Services League and 5th in the Oxford Thursday League. The
only notable achievement was a 4—2 win over Old Corinthians,
who later beat us in the OBLI Cup which they subsequently
won. The posting of our regular goalkeeper, L/Cpl. Holmes,
has been partly responsible for our poor finish to the season
after such a good start.
Hockey: Capt, Brazier is now OIC Hockey and, although
there has been no lack of effort on the field, no sensational
victories can be reported. In the Bari Cup we were far from
disgraced, and our 4—0 victory over RAOC Tidworth was the
highest score in the competition. We did well to hold the
eventual winners, CAD Bramley, to a goalless draw in the
semi-final, losing this on a short comer.
Cross Country: The Cross Country Championships have
already been reported in THE GAZETTE, but mention must be
made of the places won by Cpl. Pirie (2nd) and Cpl, Young (4th)
in the individual championship. (This event is your scribe's
excuse for non-submission of a letter last month—through sheer
exhaustion!)
Visitors: It was a pleasure to entertain, once again on 21st
March, the GOC West Midland District, Major General P. B.
Gillett, on his farewell visit to the unit. He had drinks in the
Sergeants* Mess and lunched in the Officers' Mess,
Major General C, D. Key, Comd Base Org, visited the
Commandant on 22nd March and stayed for lunch. Major
General A. Young. DOS, was one of the guests at the Cross
Country Championships.
Brigadier C. G. Walker, DAPL, visited the unit on 2nd
April, primarily to see 522 Coy RPC.
Les Girls: (16 Coy WRAC): CpL Gray did well in the net-
ball trials and was selected for the inter-Services team and can
now officially wear her Army colours. L/CpL Preston will
represent the CAD at the RAOC rifle meeting at Ash Ranges.
L/Cpl. McGregor, Ptes. Curry, Evans and Sawkins were con-
firmed at Northend Parish Church on 31st March, when the
Rt.-Rev, J. D. McKie, Assistant Bishop of Coventry, officiated
at the ceremony. A very pleasant reception was held afterwards
at the vicarage. Miss Janice Howarth, daughter of SQMS and
Mrs. J. Howarth, and Mrs. Greta Clackson were also confirmed
at this ceremony.
During April L t Ames, 2/Lt. Hill, Cpl. Gray, L/CpK
McGregor, Preston, Whetton, Ptes. Bond, Palmer, Peaurt and
Evans will be taking part in adventure training in the Cairngorms.
Civilian Estab News: Miss Cathie McDougall has left us
for the Navy; she is off to Rosyth,
Miss Susan Wall (typist) married Mr. George Smith (RAF
Gaydon) on 6th April and Miss Gwen Mason, APA, married
L/Cpl. Gethin (ACC) on 23rd March.
Johnnie Slecka, our pigeon fancier of APA and Mr. Lainch-
bury (messenger) have received monetary awards from the Com-
mandant for ideas submitted through the staff suggestion
scheme.

PRIDE OF PLACE this month must surely go to the twenty
stalwarts from this unit who were used to provide a Quarter
Guard, an unarmed combat display team and a drill display
team on the recent admin inspection.
Due credit must go to Sgt. Bowler, RPC, who in a very
short time trained the drill team to give a 15-minute demon-
stration of high standard drill without a single word of command
being given. Credit must also go to Cpl. Groombridge, our ex-
professional wrestler, who trained the unarmed combat team to
a terrifying level!
Emphasis is on physical fitness in the unit with the v intro-
duction of circuit PT, Odd as it may seem, more and more
appear to enjoy this style of PT than was at first thought.
Many have now reached the stage when they are able to perform
some 170 energetic exercises in the space of 6i minutes. Even
