Transcription AMMUNITION
COMPANY: On the evening of 28th February
some of the members of the RAOC Association travelled to
Bielefeld for an everting of indoor games. It was a fine event
especially as we won the competition.
The soccer team is active again after the snow and has
beaten 23 Tank Transporter Regiment by four goals to two.
It lost however to the Paderborn Youth Club by four goals to
three,
Corporal Haslett left us for a few days to play in the
Corps rugger team in matches against REME and RCT.
Arrivals: SQMS Fostekew and Sgt Drysdale.
STORES COMPANY:
We are now lying fifth in the Bielefeld
Garrison indoor games league having lost the match against
14 Squadron RCT. We are not doing much better at soccer
as we were beaten by 4 Division in the DOS BAOR cup com-
petition.
However, we are hoping for some success in the
soccer and hockey matches against the other companies of the
Park in the inter-unit sports competition.
Departures: Sgt Millar, Cpls French and Gillott; L/Cpls
Bibby and Taylor; Pte Morris.
Arrivals: Sgt Keenan, Pte Downey and L/Cpl Ferguson
on his return from a tour with UNFICYP,
Congratulations: To Cpl Munro and L/Cpl Rao on pro-
motion.
1 Division
HQ RAOC: The main event of the month
was the Divisional study period. Brigadier
N, H. Speller was one of the guests.
The Officers attended a guest night at
Scheuen to welcome the new OC U O F I \
'Major Stone and subsequently, the Ad-
jutant made a visit to BMH Hannover. He
may eventually present a bill to DADOS
Combat Supplies with X-ray pictures in
support.
SQMS Hines has been active on the hockey field assisting
1 Division RAOC to defeat 3 BAPD by one goal to nil in the
DOS BAOR cup competition.
Departures: Sgt Robinson and his family to civilian life.
Arrival: L/Cpl Dovell from Bahrain.
7 ORDNANCE FIELD PARK: The Fitness for Role inspection
is over. The Headquarters staff have managed to dodge the
flying distemper, but Park HQ has assumed a new look with
a whiter shade of pale. The Stores Platoon stands on firmer
ground and in spite of the bad weather, MT took on a new
shine with the assurance of complete mobility. Some of us
have reservations on the veracity of this last claim. The quarter
guard was provided by members of 7 and 11 OFPs and Corporal
Doyle. Private Martin. Private Terriza, Private Connolly, Private
Roberts and Private Dowse represented our unit.
The Brigade Commander presented LS and GC Medals to
CSM P. Longman of 7 OFP and Captain D. Meacock of 11 OFP
during his visit.
Fortunate to miss the inspection were Private Berrill, Private
Rowland, Private Jones, Private Pearce and Private Payea who
were busily engaged on a ski-ing course in Silberhuette,
The ABU has been geared up to be on the move and
Major H. R. Owen, SQMS Brown, Staff Sergeant Ponsonby,
Lance Corporal Gosling, Private Wells and Private Pattison will
soon be basking in the Libyan sunshine.
Due to the weather, sport has been virtually at a stand-
still although the * C ' shooting team made up of CSM Long-
man, Lance Corporal Ormerod, Corporal Brown and Private
Eden-Winn, was successful and is to go forward to shoot in
the Baker cup competition. The 'A' team made up of SQMS
Brown, Corporal Doyle, Corporal McGitt and Corporal Clarke
met with reasonable success during the season and Corporal
Doyle was one of the top ten individuals.
Departures: CSM Longman, S/Sgt North, Cpl Davies,
L/Cpl Chappell and Pte McDermott.
Arrivals: CSM Miles, Cpl Scott, Pte Blease and Pte Mc-
Caffrey and family.
Congratulations: To S/Sgt Bradford on promotion.
11 ORDNANCE FIELD PARK: The main item of concern this
month was our FFR Inspection, Never before have so few put
so much paint in so many places in so short a time.
By the time this is being read, we hope several of the
unit will have visited Berlin under the care of Second Lieutenant
Schreuder of 7 OFP.
Departures: Sgt Hardy to Ord Depot Cyprus; Cpl Door
to Regt Depot; L/Cpl Shirley to civilian life; Pte Wilson to
Regt Depot and Pte Scourfield to 154 FAD.
Arrivals: Cpl Pickering and family, L/Cpl New, Pte
Barrett, Cfn Wagon and Cfn Pearce.
Congratulations: To L/Cpl and Mrs Ward on the birth
of their first child, a daughter.
STORES SECT 1 ARMD WKSP: Fitness training under the OC
and badminton under the watchful eye of Sergeant O'Brien are
the in things at the moment, but the main event has been the
Workshop exercise Bitter Pill It began with five platoons
making crash moves to five separate locations and our OC,
as yet unaccustomed to the rough and ready life of soldiering,
moved the section into the open fields. This was a mistake;
—we should have occupied the village and after another crash
move, we did.
Due to adverse weather conditions we lost three of the
Section. Lance Corporal Birchall used the roof of the Fordson
as a quick escape route from the enemy, misjudged the length
and crashed to earth. He will survive, however, as will Private
Dobbins, over exposed to the elements and Lance Corporal
Powell, stricken with 'flu, no doubt through taking the position
of a cam pole in icy weather.
Departures: Sgt Carter and Pte Hodgkinson.
Arrival: Pte O'Toole.
Congratulations: To Pte and Mrs Bourne on the birth of a
son; to Sgt Seager, L/Cpl Macgregor and L/Cpl Gray on pro-
motion; to L/Cpl Hughes, L/Cpl McGregor. L/Cpl McGurk
and Pte Dobbins on obtaining ACE II.
STORES SECT 39 MSL REGT WKSP: We have said farewell
to Corporal Ryles, who has returned to the perils of civilian
life and have welcomed his replacement Corporal Fowles. Con-
gratulations to Private Rowe on obtaining his Driver II qualifica-
tion,
2 Division
5 ORDNANCE
FIELD PARK:
We
celebrated our release from the get-ready
for inspection state of mind by having a
unit smoker on 4th March. This was
held in the Sub Aqua Club rooms and
was a resounding success. Private Natton
found it a splendid occasion for the
celebration of his twenty-first birthday.
We have said farewell to Captain
Brian Phillips soon to be on his way to
Singapore. He has been in the OFP for three good years and
has earned his tiger balm.
We are all looking forward to the period before our re-
turn to BAOR in September.
Having tried to find whisky
galore by diving on the wrecks off Oban the Sub Aqua Club
is planning some diving off the coast of the Isle of Man whilst
we are camping in Jurby there in June.
Then, tents artd-
caravans are being aired for the block leave we are to have in
July and August,
Departures: CSM Thomas to Singapore and L/Cpl Williams
to civilian life,
Arrival: Cpl Amphlett from British Honduras.
Congratulations: To Sgt Dipnall and L/Cpl Gregory, on
promotion.
STORES SECT 5 INF WKSP: At the annual technical inspec-
tion the CRAOC commented on the effectiveness of the way
in which the Section is able to divide itself into two parts and
maintain two elements of the Workshop at the same time.
Departures: S/Sgt Lawson, L/Cpl Sumner, Pte Smith and
Pte Collins.
Arrivals: Cpl Evans; Ptes Dupree, Cooke, Kirkham and
Sorrenson.
STORES SECT 12 INF WKSP: Recent visitors have included
Mr I. Montgomery, the Deputy Under Secretary of State, and
Brigadier W. G. H. Beech who is Commander* 12 Brigade.
We have said farewell to Lance Corporal Rooney. Private
Belcher, Private Hoggart and Private Viles, and have welcomed
Corporal Jones, Private Smith and Private Wilson. And we
congratulate Lance Corporal Grady on promotion,
SQMS
Adams is looking forward to a move to Singapore and Corporal
Godfrey to a new job in the UK.
