Transcription Corporal Mick Bland has also rediscovered his pet hate, driving
an Eager Beaver Eor four hours in the dark whilst the heavens
open up. It is now widely rumoured that he actually shrunk.
Records please note to only send pre-shrunk Supply Specialists
to this Platoon.
Our thoughts at the moment are with the OCs wife Carole
Roycroft who has been taken into hospital to have a rest
prior to having an addition to their family. We hope they do
not keep her there until the baby is due which is not until
early January.
We welcome Private Ian Webb.
STORES PLATOON
22 AIR DEFENCE REGIMENT WORKSHOP
WE begin these notes by extending best wishes to members of
the Platoon currently serving with the Regiment on Operation
Banner. We look forward to their safe return to Dortmund in
March 1979.
The Mod programme is well on schedule, all concerned
seem very satisfied with the progress so far. Full credit to
Private John Grice of 53 Battery Section who not only handled
the clerical work involved, but all the physical moving of the
stores to and from the Mod team. Corporals Steve Hall, Colin
Metcalfe and Private Tony Valler have been very busy down
the Storehouse doing among other things the re-binning of the
vehicles.
Recently the Platoon organised a very successful social
evening. The l buffet was superb, music for the evening was
provided by Mr Backloader' Corpora] Joe O'Rourke.
Congratulations to Sergeant Graham Seymour, Corporal
Walsh, Lance Corporal Shirley, Privates Valler, Pays, Grice,
Mellor, Newman, Winter and Boyce on being selected for
substantive promotion. Congratulations to Private Mick Pays
and his wife Marie on the birth of their son.
Recent postings-in are Corporal Walsh, Privates Last, King
and Conway. We hope they enjoy their tour with the Unit.
STORES SECTION 61 STATION WORKSHOP
WITH a full time staff of only ten, it is surprising how eventful
things have been in our little Stores Section. In recent months
there has been a one hundred per cent change of military
personnel (all two of them) leaving us under the watchful
eyes of W02 John Woodward and Sergeant Keith Honeysett.
We have two new industrious young ladies, Mrs Audrey Johnson
and Mrs Chris Bailes, and at the business end of the section,
the rapid turnover of labourers seems to have come to a halt
with Mr Trevor Millin, Mr Pete Graham was recently pro-
moted to C4 Storeman and Herr Edgar Fricke to C3 Storeman.
Frau Susie Trapp, Mr Robert Palliparambil and Mr John
Seaman complete our line up.
STORES SECTION 26 CORPS
ARMOURED ENGINEER SQUADRON WORKSHOP
IN the ten months since this Stores Section formed, life has
been, to say the least, * interesting * for the soldiers involved.
For a period it seemed that we would never get it sorted
out, in fact at one time the rumour was that Chilwell was
closing down and we were the recipients of their stock. How-
ever, it appears that our worries were groundless as we are
functioning as a Stores Section and the powers that be, seem
to be, dare I say it, * happy.' We have had lots of invaluable
help and advice from all concerned and this was of great
assistance to us.
I would like to name the members of the Section, Staff
Sergeant Pat Garrick, Corporal Colin (Gilly) Guilfoyle, Lance
Corporal Alistair (Thomo) Thomson, Lance Corporal Norman
(The Storeman) Parsons and Private Ken Kynaston. Private
Kynaston is temporary attached to_ us. In addition to the
military element we also have two Civilian Storemen, Mr Chris
Holder and Mr Andy Heeney.
STORES SECTION 50 MISSILE REGIMENT
THE Stores Section is now returning to normality after the
activities of Exercise Hot Line, It is widely surmised that
WOl Gauld had words with the other man at the top, for
we only had one brief period of rain throughout the exercise,
The past few months have also brought the wind of
change. We have said farewell to W02 Tom Burke and to
Lance Corporal Roger Lister. We welcome Staff Sergeant Dave
Cook from Northern Ireland and Private Keith Helsby from
Vehicle Depot Ash church. Keith assures us that he will put
theory into practise and learn to drive. Both are supply
Clerks and join Corporal John (I'm going to Northern Ireland)
Blacker, and Lance Corporal Paul Trent who, he assures us
is looking forward to his next BFT. Our Supply Specialists
are Sergeant Don Learmonth, contender for the BAOR ' ^ v
6 ' Darts Championship. Corporal Barry Jones of volleyball
and basketball fame and Private Norman Levett who hope-
fully awaits his selection for Englands Football Team nrL w
that he i s a B l K
°
Lance Corporal Charlie Walker our one and only Driver
and * Big Wheeler' insists that we could not manage without him
and that he will be sorely missed on his posting to 3 BAPj)
in April.
Our congratulations go to Corporal Blacker, Lance Corpora]
Walker and Private Helsby on their provisional selection for
promotion to the next higher rank.
Fortress Headquarters Gibraltar
THERE may be some truth in the rumour that all Staff Officers
have a monkey on their back and judging by the expression on
the face of the DAA and QMG, Major A. M. Allkins at a
recent Corps photo taken at the Apes Den on the Rock of
Gibraltar, it is not a pleasant experience!!
The photograph was taken during the visit of Colonel J,
Lloyd-Jones, the Inspector RAOC to Gibraltar.
Get off my back: Sergeant Andy Bale, W 2 Alan Govier, W O l
Bill McNulry, Colonel John Lloyd-Jones, Major Alan Allkins,
Corporal Colin Lawrence, Staff Sergeant John Bentley and Major
Tony Moore.
During his visit Colonel Lloyd-Jones talked to all serving
members of the Corps on the Rock, was entertained to lunch in
the Fortress Sergeants Mess by all RAOC Senior Ranks and
also spent a very relaxed evening with all serving and ex-
members of the Corps and their wives at an RAOC (Gibraltar
Branch) Association get together organised by the Association
Secretary ex WOl Joe Jurado. Joe is a well known member of
the Corps Association on the Rock who devotes a great deal of
his spare time to Association activities.
Farewell to WOl Marc Moody who will long be remembered
for his activities in the Joint Services Sub-Aqua Club. We wish
him and his wife Margaret all success in SSD Dulman, Also
farewell to W02 George Ottley and his wife Pat who have
left for Headquarters Northag, George will long be remembered
for his enthusiasm and good humour in AQ Branch and his
inexhaustable activities as PEC of the Fortress Sergeants Mess.
