Transcription 79 SUPPLY DEPOT
-1ARCH has seen the Depot almost free from snow after the
nost severe winter blizzards in thirty two years. The Eager
leaver in the snow-plough role was always in action, RE plant
vas deployed to tackle twelve foot drifts; on two occasions
jnit ration vehicles were unable to reach us and 80 Supply
Depot did not receive fresh bread,
Brigadier Watkins the Commander Hohne Garrison, carried
:>ul his annual administrative visit, and presented Corporal
vlick Naylor with his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
goals. After the match the team adjourned for a team talk in
the nearest pub, which accounts for the poor condition of Lance
Corporal Mark Snclson, Privates Kev Hardman and Tony
Mason, not to mention the OC the following morning. The
thaw has not only brought good news. The lads were all shocked
to find that the Workshop Run (more a Nature Ramble than a
run) had been resurrected. Sergeant Ian Beedham's lungs could
hardly cope—but he promises to improve.
New arrivals in the Unit were Corporal Sid Bolton (how's
the ear Sid?) and Private Jim Hawkins who has already found
his niche as the Platoon goalie. A warm welcome is also
extended to Mandy Dancy who replaces Linda Garrett whose
father has been posted. Best wishes to Linda for the future
and welcome to 7 Armoured to all the newcomers!

STORES SECTION DIV ENGINEER
REGIMENT
WELL everybody here liked last months notes so much Vm
writing them again. Any more extraneous commitments and I
might just squeeze some office time in somewhere.
This month sees the departure of the desperate duo
(Corporal Jim Nesbitt and Private Ged Usher) for the Emerald
Isle for four months holiday. It must be a holiday the way
inscalings keep coming in. We wish them both well and hope
they have a quiet tour.
Back here at Nienburg, Corporal Steve Oxley and myself
(Biggies) with assistance from Q have been preparing for the
Technical Inspection. All skeletons have been dusted down
just in case they're found.
On the Storeman's side Sergeant Dave Holmes and Private
Geoff Bond have been finding space for the aforementioned
inscalings and have just received another wagon to play with.
Finally a warm welcome to our new driver Private Tom
Henderson who assures us he can drive and will as soon as he
passes his tick test.
STORES PLATOON 1 ARMOURED
WORKSHOP
WITH only two weeks until the main party returns from
Northern Ireland, it looks as though we have successfully
survived these gruelling four months and can see the light at
the end of the tunnel.
With the recent thaw has come a renewal of outdoor sports
as well as a continuation of the indoor variety. In the case of
the latter the Platoon team scraped through the first round of
the Workshop volleyball competition.
Luckily the level of
incompetence from REME was marginally higher than ours
but with practice, I'm sure we'll improve. Outdoor sport opened
with a thrilling football match against what we were lead to
believe was a Company team from the 3 RRF down the road.
This turned out to be the Battalion First Team. The result was
close though, the teams being separated by six (or was it seven)
THIS has been an, interesting and busy
month for us here in Lubbecke. Perhaps
we should start with some notable
achievements in the world of sport. Foot-
ball saw Headquarters 2nd Armoured
Division RAOC take on Headquarters 3rd
Armoured Division RAOC in the quarter
finals
of the DOS Cup. A very hard
fought game which was well contested in
both goalmouths resulted in a well earned
victory by two goals to one for us. The first goal for the
home team came from Sergeant Jim Mclnally early in the
second half.
A few minutes later Sergeant Dave Dupree,
our * Supersub/ came on in place of the injured Sergeant John
Scott and promptly scored with a well taken shot
or was
it a pass that went wrong? 3rd Armoured Division fought back
hard and managed to score in the last few minutes, but good
work by our back four prevented any further scoring and the
final whistle saw an elated and very surprised 2nd Division team
disappearing in the direction of the Naafi to celebrate,
In an entirely different vein, the 2nd Armoured Division
Fencing Championship took place recently and once again
Captain Lawrence Burr proved why he is an international
standard fencer by winning first place in the Foil and Sabre
competitions and second place in the Epee contest. He is now
2nd Armoured Divisions Overall Champion of Arms and goes
on to the BAOR Championships in April Heartiest congratula-
tions on your success and good luck in the coming competition.
Corporal Ben Smith's youngest daughter, Kerry Jo-Anne,
was christened at a recent RAOC Church Sunday and the sub-
sequent party was a great success, which all present enjoyed.
Our grateful thanks to Ben and Yvonne Smith for all the hard.
work they so obviously put into this event. Ben has also
passed his EPC exam this month, so congratulations all round.
Corporal Dave Morris, our resident photographer, had the
pleasure of being the official Army Photographer when Mr John
Denver landed in BAOR at the start of his concert tour. Dave's
pictures at present decorate the entrance to Tax House and
demonstrate his considerable skill in this field. (What about
some of the work for THE GAZETTE.—Editor),
Congratulations this month to Private Paul Chandler
(again!) on his promotion to Lance Corporal and to Corporal
Dennis Edmunds on his posting to Hannover as a Sergeant
Finally a special mention for Private Alex Meldrurn for
failing to get his name in T H E GAZETTE once more! Well done!
ORDNANCE
COMPANY
SINCE our last contribution, the Ordnance Company has
changed beyond recognition. Majors Brady and Conway-Hyde
have been replaced by Major Green and Captain Laird, and
the Company is rolling forward towards Exercise Iron Band—
the first of the season.
In the storehouse, Supply Specialists have been working
round the clock to rearrange the entire storeholding whilst
PC and A have battled to keep up with them. The storehouse
has now emerged unscathed, and so has the Second-in-Commands
kit.
"But Where's Staff Lewis?"
" O n Education, Sir 1 '
"Who's running the storehouse?"
" Skyrme and Taylor, Sir"
" Oh my gawd "
Sergeant Larry Taylor really is back from Australia.
He's brown and he talks funny. Welcome back,
" Staff's back, Sir "
" Good, I'll see him tomorrow "
" T o o late, Sir. He's gone on Snow Queen "
