NORTHAC
ITS back to work for the Headquarters
after our escapades on Exercise Able
Archer. This time round the duty scribe is
found from Headquarters Support Com-
mand namely the Chief Clerk W02 George
Leiper who is ably assisted by Corporal
Stuart Macdonald. Other RAOC members
tied in with this office who must get a
mention are Major Alan Wainwright, Joint
Headquarters Supply Officer, Major Robin
Lee, Command UK National Detachment
his Chief Clerk Corporal Geordie Allen
and Clerk, Private Paul Ruskin.
Congratulations are once again in
order for WO's2 Doug Boshier and Barry
Quigley in coming second for the Rheindahlen Garrison cross
country team in the recent Rhine Area Championships (they
have blisters and cuts to prove it).
W02 Jim Gemmell Chief Clerk G3 Plans is looking for-
ward to receiving another body in his hard pressed office in the
form of Bombardier Mick Lynch on probationary training for
transfer to the Corps. Lastly those who may/may not wish
to know the whereabouts of one Lance Corporal Bill Currie
can find him in G2, a move to improve his clerical experience.
Next month it's the turn of front office to pen the notes so get
your pencils ready.
We also say welcome to Staff Sergeant Tony Garland who
takes over as PA to the Commander NORTHAG.
Ammunition
Inspectorate
BAOR
COMINGS and goings are the theme this month. I've been
nagged into mentioning that WOl Mick Heath and Corporal
Mick Knox are now firmly in Station. After his mention in
a previous issue Corporal Knox had begun to fret that he
officially hadn't arrived anywhere yet, well, he's here, Mum.
The current fuel cutbacks were met philosophically, SATO
did his thing by putting the Cortina off the road, the AEO
Captain Harry Vaughan now rides a bike. The next step is to
get Units to send their ammunition through the post for in-
spection !
WOl Dave Young and Staff Sergeant Barry Johnson have
spent a few days on Hohne Ranges on SOAPAT with one of
our Australian visitors, Sergeant Norman Sutton.
Sergeant
Sutton, who is on temporary loan from 3 BAD, also had a visit
to Sennelager to watch MILAN firings by the KOSB, bush hats
and Glengarrys were all the rage without corks.
Meanwhile, on the social side, the RAOC Association Hop
took place in Hammersmith Barracks Quadrant Club with the
Inspectorate as the organising body. A good time was had by
all, especially at 0900 hours the following morning to return
the club to its original clean and tidy state. No mean feat for
a bleary eyed crew, including a certain W02 who had only just
returned from 1 RTR's Cambrai celebrations. Never mind,
Bob, there is life after death!
Management Services Unit BAOR
A UNIT training day was held recently and the photograph
shows the happy band of warriors that attended, the snow
showers that were the order of the day could be the reason for
the frozen appearance of some participants. The day cul-
minated with a visit to Rank Xerox in Dusseldorf, and the
general concensus of opinion was that these machines are
loo clever by half.
The Unit continues in its normal way, ie now you see
them, now you don't; the travel restrictions have curtailed
some trips but we still manage to fill in the occasional 1771.

Unit Training Day at Management Services.
Some odd observations about the Unit; SSM Bob Quinney
going to an acupuncturist, spending DM30 to stop smoking at
11.30 hours and not touching a cigarette till 18.15 hours! The
OC is getting into his part-time role of musical director of the
local Musical Society's production of ' Fiddler on the Roof,'
not sure if the song we hear is part of the script or reaction to
another LOA cut. Conductor John Alford wondering why his
car stereo system did not work, not really surprising as it was
switched off at the time. Two of our SQMSs, John Last and
Julian Thompson spend lunch hours and Sunday mornings
practising for starring roles in the Viersen Cross Country team;
I wonder what they do with their spare time?
Greetings to W02 Juilan Thompson from.Donnington and
by the time this appears, to Mrs Thompson and family. The
other arrival is Mrs Kingston who dragged her husband out
of hibernation in the Mess and put him in the dog house, sorry,
quarters patch. We hope that you will enjoy your time with
us. Congratulations to Conductor John Alford on being selected
for commissioning, incidentally he had done ninety per cent of
his packing when AG9 cancelled his posting to UK; they do
seem to have the most peculiar sense of humour!
Ordnance Depot A n t w e r p
IT has been a period of change in the Headquarters of the ODA,
Lieutenant Colonel John Cook has departed much to the dismay
of the cricketers, we wish him . and Mrs Cook all success in
their new surroundings. We welcome Lieutenant Colonel Peter
Warren and his wife to Antwerp and hope that they have a
happy and successful tour.
The Orderly Room has had an infusion of new blood with
the arrival of Sergeant Jon Hunter and Staff Sergeant Ray Gash.
On the sporting side, the football team after what has been
kindly described as an indifferent start, have had a few successes,
a victory over Bracht in the Rhine Area Cup was very welcome
after the defeats of last season; in the Minor Units Cup the
team has won through to the third round after beating 227
Signal Squadron in the second round, all these results obtained
without the skills? of Captain Mike Thompson and WOl Vic
Green.
The Unit once again took part in the Antwerp Liberation
Parade. Led by Captain Richard Byrne, the contingent was
watched very closely by Sergeant Billy Rice who has requested
that next year the band play something to which we can march!
It is with regret that we hear that Sergeant Billy Rice will
